Great interview with Laurie Thompson, Emma Thompson's paternal grandmother!

As stated before, Laurie Thompson is the spokesperson for the Thompson family.

It is unfortunate that Emma's maternal grandmother, Margie Routt Young, has not spoken on behalf of her precious granddaughter, Emma Thompson. Emma was the victim of a brutal, horrific rape and murder. She was barely 4 years old.

At least Amanda, Abigail Young's sister, is a voice for Emma and is protesting the parole of Abigail Young.

My Dearest Emma, I watched the sun rise over the Galveston Bay this morning and I realized just how much I missed you as tears poured down my face! I know the pink reflection off the clouds had to be the sun reflecting off your beautiful angel halo! Thank you for the person you have made me become! Because of you I stand taller because of you my right from wrong is no longer in question! Not a day goes by that I don't wish to hug you, love you, wish to see that beautiful smile and hear you say, " I's your girl Aunt Am" or "I's loves you big much Aunt Am" I still hear you as a 4 year old I will always I guess! I will forever have the questions why...why you? Why didn't I see through the lies? Why didn't you tell us? Why did your Mommy not protect you? Why did this monster choose you? I know that when you were going through all this pain and suffering God wrapped his arms around you and held you tight! Because of my loss of you I have become a voice against child abuse! Because of my loss of you my voice is one not to be reckoned with! Because you are gone I will forever be changed and my heart will never be the same! At first glance people think your loss has made me an emotional reck and I was for a long time but what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger and God has helped me through! I will forever fight for you! I will forever be your voice! I will never waiver on right from wrong in my parenting or that which has to do with a child's safety! Let it be known that I do not stand behind justice for you bit I stand beside you! Thank you fo being my angel and looking down on me, Uncle Bob,and Lillie everyday! You are my strength and boy do I need it on days like today! I loves you "BIG MUCH" then, now, and forever! I stand firm on seeking your justice! Send me a wink from the heavens above! Happy Sunday beautiful Angel Emma! XOXO Love, Aunt Am

On 5-2-12, I posted the following on Facebook - Justice For Emma Thompson:

There has been tremendous effort put forth in protesting Abigail Young's parole. The effort includes this Facebook page, Justice For Emma Thompson, being set up; media coverage in Harris, Washington, and Brazos Counties - TX; media interviews with Laurie Thompson, Emma Thompson's paternal grandmother; a media interview with Amanda Matthews, Abigail Young's sister and Emma's maternal aunt who also set up a Facebook page, Emma ForJustice; many folks who "Liked" this Facebook page (currently 1, 218 Likes); many folks who e-mailed their family and friends requesting they write a letter protesting Abigail Young's parole, etc.

As a result of the aforementioned, many people wrote protest letters. Those who wrote letters are a voice for precious Emma Thompson! Special thanks to all who wrote letters and helped spread the word about Abigail Young's parole review. Your efforts are sincerely appreciated and as a result of our efforts, I hope that the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles deny Abigail Young parole.

A very special thanks to those, at Reality Chatter including non-members, who wrote a letter protesting Abigail Young's parole.

You are a voice for precious Emma Thompson! There are not words to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to all who cared enough about justice for Emma to write a letter protesting the parole of her mother, Abigail Young.

A very special thanks to Christy and Jenny, who were a part of Emma's life and spent countless hours in assisting the investigators and prosecutors in the Emma Thompson case and specifically the trials of Abigail Young and Lucas Coe. Emma was very fortunate to have such loving neighbors. You are so lucky to have known precious Emma and to have been part of her life prior to her horrific, brutal murder.

Christy and Jenny, I am glad our lives have touched and I have the privilege of being your friend. My respect and admiration for both of you is greater than you will ever know. ♥️ ♥️

We all know that serving 19 months of a 20 year sentence and being placed on Parole Review status, as of 2/21/12, is NOT justice for sweet, innocent, defenseless Emma who was murdered as a result of Abigail Young bringing Lucas Coe into her life, into her home and failing to protect Emma!

Again . . . special thanks to all! Hopefully, the efforts of so many world wide will ensure that the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles (TBPP) will deny Abigail Young parole.

It is my understanding from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), the TBPP will render a decision, regarding Abigail Young's parole, in August, 2012. Please be assured I will post the decision here as soon as it is known!

Great news!

Lucas Ruric Coe's Appeal with the Fourteenth Court of Appeals - Houston, Harris County, TX was "Affirmed" on 5/24/2012 which means his Appeal has been denied!

Coe was found guilty on 9/21/2010 and on 09/23/2010 Coe was sentenced to Life without Parole and a $10,000 fine. After the sentencing, Coe immediately filed a Notice of Appeal in trial court - 232nd District Court - Houston, Harris County, TX.

Coe filed his Appeal with the Fourteenth Court of Appeals on 9/28/2010. The appeal process is a long process. Finally, an opinion was rendered by the 14th Court of Appeals on 5/24/2012!

LUCAS COE CONVICTION UPHELD

(MAY 26TH, 2012)

KWHI - AM
Brenham, TX

Lucas Coe, who was convicted in September of 2010 of sexually assaulting the daughter of a Brenham nurse, causing her death, will continue his lifelong stay in prison.

The 14th Court of Appeals affirmed Coe’s conviction this week.

Coe was found guilty on September 21st, 2010 and sentenced to life without parole two days later.

Coe immediately filed an appeal.

Four year old Emma Thompson died of injuries from
sexual abuse at the hands of Lucas Coe.

Four-year old Emma Thompson died on June 27th, 2009 after Coe sexually and physically abused her. He was not charged with murder because he would have had a chance at parole.

An autopsy showed that Emma Thompson had a ruptured pancreas, a fractured skull, 80 bruises on her body and a sexually transmitted disease.

Abigail Young, Emma’s mother and former Brenham nurse, was convicted of reckless injury to a child by omission and sentenced to 20 years in prison, the maximum punishment.

Prosecutors said Young lied to protect Coe before and after the girl’s death, knowing that Coe had faced a previous charge of injury to a child.

Coe was found guilty of super aggravated assault.

Only have a few minutes to be here. I am real excited!

KBTX (CBS) - Bryan, TX will run the story about Lucas Coe's appeal of his guilty conviction being denied by the Fourteenth Court of Appeals tonight on the 10 pm News. I will be sure to watch it.

It is a holiday week-end and it has been tough to get in touch with the appropriate folks at the TV stations.

There is one TV station (which I can not disclose at this time) in Houston that plan to run the story. May be after Monday.

Another is pending in Houston.

Also, I anticipate that the daily newspaper of Abigail Young's hometown, Brenham, will run the story on Tuesday.

Just awesome! I love the media in the greater Houston area and beyond! They have been awesome in covering the tragic murder of Emma and the two people responsible for her not being here today:

Abigail Young and Lucas Ruric Coe.

They did a great job of putting the video together.

I seen on Facebook that now we are waiting on the mother's parole hearing. Lets all say a big prayer for this little girl that her mother does not see the light of day cause she has only done 2 years for her part in this crime.

Nene_Please, that is correct.

The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles have scheduled meetings with a few key people who requested a meeting to protest Abigail Young's parole. Those meetings will take place in July, 2012. At the request of those that will be meeting with TBPP, I can not disclose their names.

Without a doubt, they will do an awesome job in speaking for the victim, Emma Thompson.

TBPP will render their decision about Young's parole in August, 2012.

Many of us worked long and hard including a media blitz to bring awareness to Abigail Young being placed on parole review status after serving only 19 months of a 20 year sentence. We all feel that we had a very successful campaign regarding protest letters.

Many people have written protest letters from all over the world. We are grateful and appreciative to each and every person who took the time to write a letter protesting Young's parole.

Initially, TBPP were confirming receipt of e-mails, faxes, etc. with individuals. They were so overwhelmed with e-mails and faxes that they no longer confirmed receipt but all letters were placed in Abigail Young's TDCJ file which was continually submitted to TBPP.

Why would TX even consider a parole after serving 1 1/2 yrs out of the 20 yrs?

This is real odd, IMO.

BTW: IMO, this should have been a life sentence! That poor child was tortured for months before she was murdered. Even a death penalty would have been acceptable to me. But 1 1/2 years? That was a joke! Apparently, the judge was asleep at the bench!
Did he not hear the medical info on this little girl?

Freckles, per numerous articles and commentary upthread, Abigail Young was found guilty of the lesser charge.

The jury sentenced her to the maximum allowed for the lesser charge which is 20 years.

Abigail Young was suppose to serve a minimum of 5 years before she was eligible for parole.

However, per Texas law and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) guidelines, Abigail Young became eligible for parole review after serving only 19 months of a 20 year sentence due to good behavior and work credits.

In August, 2012, the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles will render their decision regarding parole for Abigail Young.

The Judge who presided in the trial of Abigail Young and later Lucas Coe's trial did an excellent job in his rulings. Young and Coe both appealed their convictions to the Fourteenth Court of appeals. Both cases were Affirmed!

I attended the entire trial of Lucas Coe including the Punishment Phase of the trial. The Judge was awesome; major league sharp! He is a seasoned judge and I was so thankful that he presided over the trials of Young and Coe. It was a privilege to see a Judge of that caliber preside in a trial of a case that I followed as it unfolded.

Emma Thompson was not tortured for months. Based on the timeline and evidence presented at the trials of Abigail Young and Lucas Coe, Coe moved into Young's home in May, 2009. Young quit sending Emma to day care and allowed Coe to baby sit Emma while she was at work.

In June, 2009, Emma's father, Ben Thompson noticed bruises on Emma and during a visitation at the home where he was living at the time, he suspected Emma had a urinary tract infection as she screamed out when she urinated. He questioned Young about the bruises and told his estranged wife, Abigail Young, about the urination incident. Young, a Registered Nurse, told Thompson that Emma bumped into blah, blah, blah and other excuses!

Thompson told Young to take Emma to her peditrician or he would. Within days Young took Emma to her pediatrician and told numerous lies.

I suggest you read the PDF's from the Fourteenth Court of Appeals - Opinion regarding the Appeals, to a higher court, by Abigail Young and Lucas Coe. Both have been Affirmed! In other words, the convictions were upheld.

The direct link to the PDF's are posted upthread.

In a few weeks, we will know if the Texas Board of Pardons and
Paroles will deny Abigail Young parole. That decision will be made in August, 2012.

Regarding Abigail Young's appeals to higher courts and Lucas Coe's Appeal being recently affirmed by the Fourteenth Court of Appeals (Houston, Harris County, TX), things are looking great regarding justice for precious Emma Thompson!

One of these days Abigail Young will be released from prison. As things stand now, she will not get her RN Nursing License reinstated by the State of Texas! All of that education and she won't be able to practice as an RN!

Lucas Ruric Coe did NOT file a "Motion for Rehearing"

Per this comment upthread (click on Link below or see Ann - Tx on Mon Jun 11, 2012 4:23 am), Lucas Coe's Motion for Rehearing was due on 6/8/12.

http://www.realitychatter.com/t2705p850-emma-thompson-deceased-6-27-09#151967

Since Lucas Coe did NOT file a Motion for Rehearing, apparently Coe is not appealing to a higher court like Abigail Young did. If you will recall, the Fourteenth Court of Appeals affirmed Coe's Appeal of his conviction on 5/24/12.

Emma Thompson -- Deceased 6/27/09 (Thread #1) - Page 18 Empty Today is 3 Years Since Emma Thompson Died a Brutal, Horrific Death!

Post by Ann - Tx Wed Jun 27, 2012 3:41 am

Today is 3 Years Since Emma Thompson Died a Brutal, Horrific Death!

I have posted the following on Facebook - Justice For Emma Thompson and Facebook - Emma ForJustice:

EMMA THOMPSON - Deceased 6/27/2009

Today, June 27, 2012, is three years that precious Emma Thompson went to Heaven to walk hand in hand with Jesus and be among the angels.

Emma was barely four years old at the time of her brutal death. Emma would now be seven years old.

The FACTS:

On June 27, 2009, Emma was brutally raped and beaten to death by Lucas Ruric Coe. Coe was the boyfriend of Abigail Young, Emma's mother, who failed to protect Emma.

Emma was officially pronounced dead at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital - The Woodlands, TX on June 27, 2009.

In Houston, Harris County, Tx, Lucas Coe was found guilty as charged (SUPER AGG SEX ASLT/CHILD UND 6) on 9/21/2010 and on 09/23/2010 Coe was sentenced to Life without Parole.

Coe's Appeal for his conviction was affirmed (upheld/denied) by the Fourteenth Court of Appeals, Houston, Harris County, TX on 5/24/12. Coe did not file for a "Rehearing" by the deadline date of 6/8/12. Apparently, Coe is not going to appeal to a higher court.

Lucas Coe is currently serving his sentence in south Texas at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) - McConnell Unit in Beeville, Bee County, TX.

In Houston, Harris County, TX, Abigail Young, a Registered Nurse and Emma Thompson's mother, was found guilty on 7/12/10. Abigail Young was found guilty of causing injury to a child by omission, but the jury found that she did so recklessly rather than knowingly and intentionally. It was the lesser charge.

On 7/13/10, Abigail Young was sentenced to the maximum allowed by law for her conviction which is 20 years.

Abigail Young is currently serving her sentence in north central Texas at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) - Christina Melton Crain Unit in Gatesville, Coryell County, TX.

Young was suppose to serve a minimum of 5 years before she would be eligible for parole. However, due to good behavior and work credits, she became eligible for parole REVIEW on 2/21/12. The Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles - Austin, TX will render their decision regarding Young's parole in August, 2012.

Abigail Young's Appeal for her conviction was affirmed (upheld/denied) by the Fourteenth Court of Appeals, Houston, Harris County, TX on 1/10/12.

On 5-4-12, Young filed a Petition for discretionary review.

On 5-8-12, the Fourteenth Court of Appeals forwarded Young's case to a higher court.

On 6-13-12, Petition for discretionary review was disposed by Court of of Criminal Appeals: Refused.

In August, 2012, we will know if Abigail Young will be granted parole.

There have been many folks world wide who wrote letters, to the Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles, protesting Abigail Young's parole.

To all of you a very special thank you for being a voice for precious Emma Thompson.

Today we celebrate Emma's Life Not Death!

Last year we started this tradition! White balloons for peace and healing, pink balloons because she was the princess, and blue balloons for child abuse awareness! We want to make a good memory every year on this tragic day and send Emma some balloons in heaven!!!

3 years ago today I lost a piece of me that can never be replaced!

My dearest Emma,

3 years ago today I know God had wrapped his arms around you so that you felt no pain! Though you are gone from this world you live forever in my heart! Not a day goes by that I don't think of you and your last day here on Earth and what you must of gone through!

It sickens me that there are people in this world that would hurt a child of God! It always makes me wonder how a parent can not protect their child!

Today symbolizes a change in my life! Because you are gone I am stronger because you were taken I learned right from wrong! Because of you I am free from the hesitation and temptation to trust everyone just because you've known them your whole life. Because of you I tell the truth at any expense! Because of you my sweet Emma I have dedicated my life to making sure the people that hurt you never hurt another and that innocent voices everywhere have a way to be heard!

Every 2 seconds a child in this world is beaten and every hour a child dies due to child abuse or neglect. I am a voice to be reconged with! I am your voice that was never heard! I will never stop fighting for you Emma!

Thank you for making me and shaping me into the person I have become! I loved you then, I love you today, and I will love you forever!

I hold close to the memories that we shared. I love you my sweet baby Emma! May God hold you close and remind you that many of us loved you while you were here on Earth! Fly sweet angel and send me a wink!

XOXO
-Aunt Am

Young denied parole by state board--2-0 vote keeps Brenham native behind bars at least another year

The Banner Press - Brenham, TX

A Brenham native sentenced to 20 years in prison in the death of her daughter has been denied parole.

Abigail Young’s parole request was turned down on a 2-0 vote by Texas Board of Pardons and Parole members. The decision was announced Thursday.

Snipped:

A spokesman with the Board of Pardons and Parole said the reason given for denial of Young’s probation was “the nature of the crime.”

The parole board spokesman said each panel considering a request consists of three members. If the first two are in agreement on a case, the third member “doesn’t vote,” he said.

STATE DENIES YOUNG'S PAROLE

A Brenham woman, convicted in the brutal death of her own 4-year old daughter has been denied parole.

Abigail Young, sentenced to 20 years in prison, had her parole request unanimously turned down by the Texas Board of Pardons and Parole.

Young has served two years of her 20-year sentence and was up for parole for the first time because of work and good conduct credits. A spokesman with the Board of Pardons and Parole said the reason given for denial of Young’s probation was “the nature of the crime.”

Young was convicted of recklessly causing serious injury to a child. Authorities said Young failed to protect her daughter Emma Thompson, from Lucas Coe, her one-time boyfriend.

Authorities said Emma had suffered over 80 bruises and had a skull fracture, three broken ribs and signs of being struck in the abdomen. There was also evidence she had been sexually assaulted.

Coe was convicted of enhanced aggravated sexual assault and sentenced to 99 years in prison without the possibility of parole.

Efforts to deny Young parole imprisoned included a Facebook page called “Justice for Emma Thompson” that solicited comments to the board asking that parole be denied.

Young won’t be considered for parole again until Aug. 30, 2013.

Glad that she wasn't granted parole, but sad that she was even considered for parole and frustrating that Emma's family will have to go through the whole process of attempting to have parole denied on a yearly basis.

New Parole Rules Sought in Cases Involving Children

by Maurice Chammah
The Texas Tribune - Austin, TX

October 29, 2012

When Laurie Thompson read a letter about the parole eligibility of the woman in prison for the death of Thompson’s granddaughter, she thought the review date — two years into a 20-year sentence — was a typo. “We had been reassured that the perpetrators of this crime would have no hope of being released in the near future,” Thompson said.

In 2009, Thompson’s granddaughter, 4-year-old Emma Thompson, was beaten to death after being sexually assaulted by her mother’s boyfriend, Lucas Coe. A jury convicted Emma’s mother, Abigail Young, of “reckless endangerment of child by omission,” and sentenced her to 20 years. Young became eligible for parole after two years and will be automatically reviewed again every year that she is in prison.

“We really have no relief,” Thompson said. "We have to revisit the details of the crime every time. It seems like we've been given a 20-year sentence."

As a result of Young’s parole eligibility, Thompson and other victims’ advocates are pursuing legislation that would end automatic yearly parole reviews in cases where the victim is a child.

Emma’s death and the subsequent trial in the case attracted a flurry of news coverage in Houston, and Thompson became the family’s spokeswoman, delivering a victim impact statement to the court.

Julie, I guess this must vary from State to State, though appalling, there's no doubt it needs to be changed. Remember Betty Broderick, the murderer of her ex husband and his new wife? She stole their house key from her daughter, entered their home, and shot them both to death. She has NEVER taken any responsbility for their murders and she didn't get paroled thank GOD but she doesn't have another hearing for 5 years.

I agree with Emma's family, this is more undue heartache and stress for the victim's, common sense should prevail in so many of these cases but it doesn't.

I agree, art tart. I think some people just shouldn't ever be eligible to go before a parole board. jmo

I thought this was resolved???
Why are they doing this again so soon?
She needs to cool her heels and come to terms with her actions. Because of her DIRECTLY this child was abused, terrorized, beaten and killed.

Her mother needs to take accountability before any release is considered. If not, the laws and the courts are simply mocking humanity.

Regarding the article dated 10/29/12 and titled, New Parole Rules Sought in Cases Involving Children, in The Texas Tribune - Austin, Tx, I posted the Link to the article on the following Facebook pages:

Justice For Emma Thompson
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Justice-For-Emma-Thompson/203731323059815

Emma ForJustice
https://www.facebook.com/ann.davids.3?ref=tn_tnmn#!/emma.forjustice
(Note: This page was started by Emma's maternal aunt, Amanda, and might possibly be set to private at this time. I don't know for sure. If so, one would have to be on Amanda's approved list to see the page.)

I think it is commendable of Laurie Thompson, Emma's paternal grandmother, and Andy Kahan to work with the legislators in our upcoming Texas Legislative Session - 2013 in getting some changes made in parole decision/policy/law. It would be wonderful to have a law to address a situation like Abigail Young's parole and many others. To be named Emma's Law in memory of precious Emma Thompson would be wonderful!

Andy Kahan is a well known advocate in the greater Houston area and worked for the City of Houston to aid victims of crime. He has the expertise, along with Laurie's assistance, to get the attention of Texas Legislators!

Several months after Lucas Coe's trial, a person who served as a juror in Abigail Young's trial contacted me. This person indicated they found Young guilty of the lesser charge but sentenced her to 20 years (the maximum sentenced allowed by law on the lesser charge) thinking Young would have to serve all 20 years. Had Young been found guilty of the more serious charge, she would have got a sentence of 25 years to life and not be eligible for parole until she served 25 years in a Texas prison.

After the Young trial, this person saw on a local (Houston) TV station that Young would have to serve a minimum of 5 years before she would be eligible for parole. It was shocking to this person and this person regretted agreeing to the lesser charge with the other jurors. This person was even more shocked when it was in the news that Abigail Young was up for parole review after serving only 19 months of her 20 year sentence. This person said she will never, ever forget the autopsy pictures of Emma nor the pictures of Emma which were taken at Memorial Hermann - The Woodlands, TX where Emma was officially pronounced dead. This person said she has, in her mind, the picture of beautiful, happy little Emma prior to death and Lucas Coe entering her life and then the pictures from the autopsy and the hospital start flashing in her mind. Needless to say, I understand what this person is saying. I attended every day of the Lucas Coe trial. I saw the pictures and there were many weeks afterwards that I would wake up from dreaming about those horrific pictures of such a beautiful, sweet, barely 4-year-old Emma!

Due to good behavior and work credits, Young became eligible (per Texas law) for parole review status in Feb., 2012. Her parole was denied in August, 2012. Young will be eligible for parole review every year! The laws need to be changed! I will certainly contact many Texas legislators about it and about the efforts of Laurie Thompson and Andy Kahan. I'm sure there are many child advocates who will be doing the same.

Of course, there was a tremendous effort by many folks and especially the Facebook page - Justice For Emma Thompson, which was set up for Emma by a lady (LCoastMom) on the west coast to write letters to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles and protest parole for Young and request that parole be denied. I think LCoastMom did an exceptional job with the page during our campaign which ended at the end of May, 2012. I helped LCoastMom with many details (facts about Young and the horrific murder of Emma Thompson per trial testimony and info submitted to the Fourteenth Court of Appeals during the appeal process for Young and Lucas Coe individually) but I was clueless about Facebook at the time! lol

Due to major health issues, LCoastMom has not been able to be active on the page for quite a while. I do hope and pray that she will be able to be active when our next protest campaign starts again in 2013. She did an exceptional job and welcomed every one to Justice For Emma Thompson which currently has over 1,500 Likes!

The minute Abigail Young is placed on Parole Review status you can be assured many advocates for Emma will start asking folks to please write the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles and protest parole for Abigail Young!

Young needs to serve all 20 years. Precious Emma Thompson was brutally raped and murdered. Emma did not get a break; why should her mother? Her mother was the one who brought Lucas Coe into her home and Lucas Coe became Emma's babysitter! Unbelievable but true!

Ann - Tx - so good to see, thanks for all the information about Emma, I know this case is especially close to your heart and in your home State.

Thank GOD for Emma's advocates, if no one cared enough to go to the trouble to raise cane about the injustice of the system, her mom might get paroled, the voices objecting have to make a difference. You have kept a close watch on this case here and at the Hinky Meter when it was running and kept the threads updated, your passion is greatly appreciated!

For your info, this is Dominick Calhoun, a 4 year old from Genesee County, Michigan, who was tortured and beaten to death in April, 2010.

Since his horrific death, Dominick's Law has been enacted by the great state of Michigan in May, 2012.

I followed the trial in Dominick's case and posted many Links to articles during the trial at The Hinky Meter. Many former THM folks may have also followed the trial. I know some Reality Chatter folks followed the case and the trial.

Hi, art! So nice to see you, too!

Yes, precious Emma is very close to my heart. I will never, ever forget sweet, innocent Emma who became a victim of sexual child abuse and then the brutal rape and murder. Barely 4 years old!

Her mother, Abigail Young, failed to protect Emma and she was the one who brought Lucas Coe into her home. Then Abigail Young lied to so many to protect Coe as evidenced by court documents, i.e, Emma's peditrician, the medical staff at Texas Children's, CPS, investigators, etc. Had she told the truth to the aforementioned about Lucas Coe being her boyfriend and living in her home, perhaps Emma would be alive today. Lucas Coe was very well known to Texas CPS. One mention of his name and red flags and lights would have gone off all over CPS!

Without a doubt, the many who took the time to write letters to protest Young's parole with the Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles were instrumental in the board denying Young parole. Also, the select few who had the opportunity to interview with the Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles (TBPP) regarding Abigail Young and why she should be denied parole were instrumental in her being denied parole. It took the efforts of many. I hope when Abigail Young becomes eligible for parole review status in 2013, the many folks who were instrumental in keeping Young behind bars will write letters to TBPP again.

If Young would be granted parole in 2013 after serving only 3 years of a 20 year sentence, it would not be justice for Emma Thompson. Emma was barely 4 years old and her life is worth far more than Young serving only 3 years! Young needs to serve all 20 years . . . and think about Emma every day! It is unfortunate Young was found guilty of the lesser charge. Had she been found guilty of the more serious charge, the sentence was 25 years to life. She would have been required to serve a minimum of 25 years before she would ever have been considered for parole.

The TBPP did not disclose how many letters were received for Young's 2012 Parole Review but it had to be over a thousand; maybe several thousand. All letters were read by those reviewing Young's parole.

Okay, done with my rant, art tart!

Bumping!

Freckles, I don't know if you saw this upthread. KWHI is a radio station in Brenham, TX which is Abigail Young's hometown.

The above was on the morning, noon and evening news on 9/1/12 (one day after Young's parole was denied).

The daily newspaper, The Banner Press - Brenham, Tx, did an excellent article. However, one has to be a paid subscriber to read the article in its entirety. A link with a snippet is posted upthread.

The parole issue for 2012 is resolved but Young becomes eligible for parole review again in 2013. If denied, she will be eligible for parole review in 2014, etc.

I think the legislators in TX need to change the laws regarding parole review for folks like Abigail Young being that it involved a child. Our TX Legislators will have a legislative session starting in January, 2013. Hopefully, changes in the law will be made. I think Emma's Law would be awesome!

Thank you, Ann.

A child is a most precious gift. Totally trusting and accepting of what the parents provide, be it good or be it hell. This "mother" had a DUTY to protect the child she "mothered". And she not only failed in her duty, she actively participated in the very brutality and death of an innocent and vulnerable child. One she was charged to protect.

Thank you for the clarity re the parole. May she never see early parole.

Freckles, you are welcome!

I hope Young never sees parole either. Based on the nature of the crime, Young needs to serve her entire sentence of 20 years.

No parole for Abigail Young means justice for Emma Thompson!
