Updated description of clothing for missing Placerville woman

Family and friends of a missing 19-year-old woman have updated their description of the clothes she was last seen wearing.

Linnea Lomax, a Placerville resident who has been missing in Sacramento County since Tuesday, was wearing a black sweat shirt with "Sweden" written in red on the front and green pants, her family said. She was also wearing flip-flops.

It's been over one week since a 19-year-old college student vanished after suffering a mental breakdown over exams and her ailing father says he's felt every minute of it.

Craig Lomax has stayed diligent in the hunt for his daughter Linnea Lomax who nine days ago walked out of a mental health facility in Sacramento, California and hasn't been heard from since.

With few clues and dozens of inconclusive sightings of his daughter - with long, wavy blonde hair and blue eyes, a student at the University of California-Davis - he's desperate.

Authorities in California are trying to locate missing college student Linnea Lomax.

Authorities in California are searching for a missing college student who disappeared after leaving an outpatient therapy center.

Linnea Lomax, a 19-year-old student at the University of California, Davis, was last seen at an outpatient clinic on Howe Ave. in Sacramento on Tuesday afternoon.

"She was at the clinic for an all day visit, but she walked out during lunch and never came back," Lomax family spokesperson Heidi Hutchison told The Huffington Post.

Social media has played a huge role in the search for UC Davis student Linnea Lomax.

The search for missing 19-year-old UC Davis student Linnea Lomax has gone on for almost one week, but efforts to find her have not slowed. Lomax went missing last Tuesday, after walking from a metal health facility after being released.

There has been a massive social media effort to organize help in finding Lomax.

More than 4,000 people have liked a Facebook page connected to the search effort, as well as a Twitter account. The Facebook page has been used to organize volunteers for her search party, which has met at Sac Metro Fire Station 106, 2200 Park Towne Circle in Sacramento.

Linnea’s family was so worried they pulled her out of school right before finals and put her into a mental health hospital for 10 days. Just a day after being released, she disappeared.

The Sacramento Sheriff’s department says it has done its due diligence in trying to find Linnea, but they believe she is choosing to stay away from friends and family.

With a very sad heart I share with you that a family member of mine has gone missing from the Sacramento area. Linnea Lomax was last seen walking out of her doctor’s office a couple days ago and disappeared very shortly after while waiting outside for her parents to pick her up. If there is anything that can be done to help publicize this in the local papers it would be most appreciated. It’s the least I can do to help publicize this in the hopes someone somewhere finds her safe and sound, quickly.

Lomax is without her psychiatric medication, without a phone, and without her wallet. There are reports she was spotted at Loaves and Fishes the day after she went missing, but since then there have been no other sightings.

Linnea Lomax was allegedly pushed into checking into a mental hospital because her family believed she was acting irrationally and stressed while studying for finals. The UC Davis coed complied, but was given a "clean bill of health.".......

#1: She is missing without any identification, no money and no belongings of any kind. She only has her flip-flops and the clothing on her back.

El Dorado Sheriff's Office takes over case of missing UC Davis student

In a statement released Wednesday morning, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department said that it was turning over the case to the Lomaxes' home jurisdiction because there's no evidence the missing woman was the victim of foul play in Sacramento County.

"For the Sacramento County department, Linnea is one of a huge number of missing persons cases," said Lomax. "The caseload is ridiculous. El Dorado County has a lot smaller number. We might get more attention than we would have. We have a smaller community. There's a sense that this is one of our girls."

One afternoon this week, a haggard-looking Craig Lomax sat in an uncomfortably chilly corner of a Sacramento-area fire station and wondered aloud: How did it come to this?

Her friends also noticed something amiss. Coyne, who said she used Skype to keep up with Linnea while she was in Davis, said her friend "completely dropped off the map."

The climax came a few weeks ago, when Linnea's worried parents showed up at her dorm room to find her in what Craig Lomax described as a "terrible, terrible state" – literally pulling out her hair, a bottle of ibuprofen open, a suicide-related website on her computer screen.

Her parents and a nurse persuaded her to admit herself to a mental health facility, but she remained steadfast that she did not have a problem and did not need all the medications they were recommending, her father said.
Now that she is on the streets – without a wallet or cellphone – her family worries that she is evading rescuers because she does not want to go back to a facility.

Search for Missing Teen Nears One Month Mark

Thursday, July 26th will mark one month since 19­ years old Linnea Lomax, a first ­year student at the University of California, Davis, walked away from an outpatient mental health clinic and disappeared into the streets of Sacramento. Neither Law Enforcement nor any of her friends and family have seen or heard from her since. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department continues to actively pursue leads in this case and has classified Lomax as “at risk.” Thus far, they have been unable to confirm any of the many possible sightings.

A $10,000 reward is being offered to anyone who provides information that directly leads to the safe return of Linnea Lomax to her Family or to the custody of Law Enforcement. It’s a search where the hope is not to find anything belonging to Linnea Lomax.

About 50 volunteers searched an area of the American River near Howe Avenue Friday. The location is significant because it’s the last place the 19-year-old was seen nearly two months ago.

"It’s a very extensive search,” explained Brad Dennis, the search coordinator with the KlaasKids Foundation. “It’s a very slow, methodical look at that particular area. We just want to make sure there is nothing there to help us find her.”

Marc Klaas joins 'massive ground search' for Placerville teen

Marc Klaas, founder of the KlaasKIDS Foundation named for his 12-year-old daughter murdered after she was kidnapped in 1993, will appear today with the parents of a missing Placerville teenager to announce a "massive ground search" along the American River.

The family came across a lead Sunday, hoping it will lead them to their 19-year-old daughter.

"We're excited that we found the first absolute confirmation of where Linnea was," her father tells FOX40.

Officials investigating whether body is that of missing UC Davis woman

Police spokesman Doug Morse said at a news conference shortly after noon that the body is that of a woman and shows signs of decomposition. Authorities say the age of the woman is not yet clear and that they do not know how the woman died.

The body was found in a wooded area along the river by a group of 25 to 30 volunteer searchers looking for signs of Lomax.

Her family indicated that they have been asked by Sacramento sheriff's officials to wait until Saturday before making any statements, according to family spokeswoman Amanda Ernst, but Sacramento police said Lomax's mother was with the search party Friday morning.

"Until such time as confirmation is made, the family is asking for continued support, prayers and privacy," stated a news release from Ernst.

Volunteers helping the Lomax family look for Linnea came across the decomposing remains in a riparian area of the American River in Glenn Hall Park, near Sacramento State, around 10:18 a.m.

Earlier in the day, law enforcement did not have an identification of the body.

About 11 hours later, family representative Amanda Ernst released a statement that the Lomax Family received confirmation that the body found was that of Linnea Lomax.

Volunteers searching for 19-year-old Linnea Lomax, the University of California, Davis freshman missing since June discovered a body on the shore of the American River in Sacramento that turned out to be her.

Despite a significant response from authorities – Sacramento police, county sheriff's deputies, park rangers and chaplains all flocked to the scene – their presence was concentrated in a hot, remote section of the American River Parkway.

Not so far away, children played outside a nearby school, teens headed to the river's edge to escape the hot sun, and people relaxed at the park.

Jonel Jorgensen, who lives only a few hundred feet from the scene, said she was surprised by the news of the gruesome discovery.

She said there's quite a bit of foot traffic on the levee, and members of the California State University, Sacramento, ROTC program run by every morning chanting slogans.

Otherwise, she said, "It's a quiet area. Not much happens around here."

Friends and Family Remember Linnea Lomax

Underneath dim lights in a room full of tears at Cold Creek Church in Placerville, friends and family of Linnea Lomax gathered to get closure Sunday.

"This isn't the way it's supposed to be, what's going on?" asks Pastor David Cooke. Their prayers for Linnea weren't answered.

Family seeks answers after UC Davis student is found dead in Sacramento

The day after Linnea Lomax's decomposed body was found along the American River following a 10-week search, her large extended family contemplated why she died, and how her tragic end might help others.

Lomax, 19, had gone from a joyful, outgoing El Dorado High School student with a 4.1 GPA to a stressed, depressed UC Davis freshman contemplating suicide.

She hanged herself? How? What did she use to hang herself?

I have been following this case since the first news about her disappearance were published. This is a very strange and complex case.

"With a very sad heart I share with you that a family member of mine has gone missing from the Sacramento area. Linnea Lomax was last seen walking out of her doctor’s office a couple days ago and disappeared very shortly after while waiting outside for her parents to pick her up.

The doctor that treated Linnea at the mental facility gave her a clean bill of health and decided to continue to see her in an outpatient basis.

Linnea's parents, especially her father, talk about her mental decline, what exactly was she diagnosed with, what was her mental illness?

"Linnea Lomax, the 19-year-old UC Davis student found dead last week along the American River, hanged herself, her father said today.

Craig Lomax made the disclosure during a press conference in Placerville called to thank the volunteers who had spent months searching for Lomax, who disappeared 10 weeks ago after leaving a psychiatric hospital.

Lomax had been depressed and fearful that she might fail a final exam at school.

Did Linnea Lomax Really Hang Herself?

The Linnea Lomax disappearance was strange enough, but now it's revealed that the 19-year-old hanged herself from a tree. Conveniently enough, her mother is who stumbled upon her body after she had been missing for at least two months. Is it wrong to find that detail the tiniest bit strange? Sacramento is huge, and the area surrounding the American River isn't necessarily a hidden place where nobody else goes. So it seems a little odd that the mother of the missing woman was able to zoom right in to find her body like that.
