UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Authorities are continuing to search for a missing nine month old baby in the City of Utica, a baby whose father, police say, didn't report missing for two weeks.

At a press conference held Wednesday morning, police said nine month old Levon Wameling was last seen on the doorstep of his home at 748 Jay Street in East Utica wearing a diaper, according to the child's father.

Police say the father, Jevon Wameling, 27, was confronted by the child's grandmother regarding the baby's disappearance and the grandparents then went directly to the Oneida County District Attorney's Office. Wameling is not currently being charged, but police say he is being questioned.

Baby Levon was reported missing on June 11.  According to his father, the 9-month-old vanished May 29 from their Utica, New York home.  Teh father says the baby was crying so he took him for a walk around 11 or 12 at night. He told police he realized he had locked himself out of the house and left baby Levon on the front porch while he went around the back of the house to climb in through a window.  According to the father, when he opened the front door, Levon was gone.

Missing Baby Levon: What's next legally?

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - While it is the outcome nobody wants to even consider in the case of missing baby Levon Wameling, it is one for which Utica Police and the Oneida County District Attorney's office must prepare.

Officials say they have to plan for the possibility of baby Levon never turning up and if that is the case, can they even have a murder case without a body of a victim?

Police are currently on their own as the child's father, Jevon Wameling, the last person to see him on the porch of 748 Jay Street in Utica has asked for a lawyer. That means that only way police are talking to him now, is if and when they arrest him.

According to Jevon, who is no longer talking to police, nine month old Levon has already been missing for two weeks.

"After a certain period of time, there's a presumption that a person is dead if the person's not seen or anything," said Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara.

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Young mother Amy Warney's nine-month-old son, Levon Wameling, is missing. Nothing is right in her world.

"It's been hell, I just, I want him home. That's all I want is him home," says Warney.

Warney's estranged boyfriend and the baby's father, Jevon Wameling, told Utica Police on Tuesday that the child had gone missing two weeks prior.

The elder Wameling told officers the child was on the front porch of his apartment at 748 Jay Street in east Utica when he locked them out of the house. He claims the child disappeared while he was trying to get back into the house.

The fact that Wameling waited two weeks to report his baby son missing doesn't add up for many who anxiously hope for the child's safe return.

Update: Utica Police plan to search through the weekend to find Levon

UTICA -- As Utica Police continue to search for missing 9-month-old Levon Wameling, they are asking residents not to organize a search. Friday marks the third day of the search for Wameling.

Friday night Utica police say they're continuing to search the streets surrounding Jay Street for any sign of Levon, but have been unable to locate him. State Police brought in a helicopter to be used in an aerial search Friday, but nothing useful was found.

Police say they will continue to search throughout the weekend for Levon until he's found or until they have thoroughly checked and rechecked anywhere he might be.

CNN reports a Utica, N.Y., man waited two weeks to report his baby missing after last seeing his child at 11:30 p.m. on May 29.

Police said Wameling came forward only after Levon's mother asked where her child was.

'Here’s the thing, we have a problem with what he says,' Utica Chief Mark Williams said at a news conference Thursday. 'Here’s a guy that waited two weeks to come forward. He doesn’t bring it forward to the police, but brings it forward to his parents. Instead he goes to an attorney's office. I think actions speak louder than words.'

Father of Levon Wameling Has Ties To Earlier Case Involving Death Of A Child

This is not the first time that questions have been raised about the welfare of a child associated with Javon Wameling.

Javon is the father of nine-month old Levon Wameling, who was caring for Levon when the baby went missing.  Javon waited two weeks before reporting the baby’s disappearance to police.

After hearing Amy Warney’s plea to the public for information about her missing child, reports surfaced of another woman who was dating Javon several years ago.

WIBX has learned that in 2005 a thirteen-day old baby was found dead on its mother’s chest.  It appears that the mother was sleeping next to Javon Wameling, who was also sleeping when the baby’s maternal grandmother discovered that the baby was not breathing.

Neighbors, relatives and friends packed Jay Street in Utica holding vigil to let the community know their concern over the missing nine month old Levon Wameling.  Those closest to the child seem to sway back and for between expressing optimism that Levon is still alive and the pessimistic or realistic alternative.  Even Levon's mother Amy echoes that wavering feeling when she talks about her loss.

Earlier in the evening we heard another point of view chillingly coated with realism. Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick called the case a homicide investigation.  Fitzpatrick had visited our studio for his monthly appearance.

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Police and search teams continue to look for any clues that could lead them to the whereabouts of missing baby Levon Wameling.

Tuesday marked Day Seven of the search. His father, Jevon Wameling told police that the nine month old baby was last seen on the porch of their Jay Street home in Utica roughly 18 days ago.

Utica Police say Jevon Wameling has stopped cooperating with them since their initial questioning and has since obtained a lawyer. He was noticeably absent from both the search for the baby as well as the vigil held outside the home Monday night. The baby's mother, Amy Warney was in attendance at the vigil Tuesday night.

UTICA >> Utica Police are asking for volunteers to help find missing 9-month-old Levon Wameling.

Utica police Sgt. Steve Hauck said that since information was released, the public has been reaching out to police and through social media sites trying to help.

Now anyone who is interested can call 315-223-3510 to have their names put on a volunteer list to either pass out flyers or help in an organized search.

Those who call need to leave their name and a number with the officer. People will then be contacted when the search begins. The phone line will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Jessica Pasho is the woman who lived with Jevon Wameling for “a couple of years,” and the mother of the baby girl who died in 2005.  She says her association with Jevon Wameling should not be the focus of the story of missing baby Levon Wameling.

She says she just wants Baby Levon to be found and, if possible, spend a few minutes talking with Amy Warney, Levon’s mom.

She says her own baby was found sleeping in between her and Jevon, not on her chest.  She acknowledges that Jevon has a troubled past but said that nothing gave her any idea that he would be capable of hurting her children.  She would never have stood for that, and would not have been with someone whom she thought was capable of that.

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - He stopped talking to police last week, but he spoke with a NEWSChannel 2 news crew Wednesday afternoon outside his Jay Street apartment where his baby was last seen.

While he wasn't willing to talk on camera, yet, Jevon Wameling, the father of missing baby Levon Wameling, had a lot to say about the May 29 disappearance of his nine-month-old son, Levon Wameling.

Wameling addressed the first and foremost question on everyone's mind: why didn't he immediately report his son missing to police instead of waiting two weeks to bring the baby's disappearance to light?

"I was hoping to find him and not have to tell his mother that I lost our son. I mean, that is the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life," said Jevon Wameling.

UTICA -- The father of missing 9-month-old Levon Wameling says he only left his baby alone for a few moments while he went inside his Utica home. He says his baby boy was abducted.

The father, 27-year-old Jevon Wameling, told the Utica Observer-Dispatch that he waited two weeks to alert police because he did not want to tip off the kidnapper and he was skeptical that investigators would help him. Jevon Wameling has been silent since reporting the child missing to police last week.

The Oneida County District Attorney told CNY Central that it is too early to look at any potential criminal charges in the case. Police are continuing their investigation and continue to search the area around 748 Jay Street and other locations.

AVA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The search for missing nine-month old Levon Wameling lead Utica Police to the Ava Landfill on Thursday.

Utica Police were clandestine about what exactly they were doing inside the landfill, declining to even use the word, "search". They said that they've been working closely with a person from the national headquarters for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children whose expertise is searching landfills. One thing they've learned: your garbage is tracked pretty closely once it leaves your house.

That's just not picked up and dumped somewhere. It's actually very specific. They have technology that tracks garbage from each individual area and dumps it in a particular area in the dump," said UPD Sgt. Steve Hauck.

Hauck also said that special attention has been paid to preserving the area where the garbage from where baby Levon was last seen, is dumped.

UTICA — Ever since 9-month-old Levon Wameling vanished more than three months ago, his father has said he had no idea what happened.

But after Levon’s father, Jevon Wameling, was arrested on burglary charges by state police Thursday, something happened to give Utica police the break that they – and Levon’s mother – had been hoping for.

By the next morning, state police divers recovered from the murky waters of the Mohawk River in North Utica a container with what appears to be an infant’s remains inside, police said.

Police are awaiting an autopsy to confirm whether the body is Levon, but a Facebook post by the baby’s mother, Amy Warney, suggested that she already knows the truth.

Utica (WSYR-TV) – The body of an infant was found by a State Police dive team in the Mohawk River on Friday.

Police did not confirm that the remains were those of Levon Wameling, a child who was reported missing in June.

Baby boy's body found in Mohawk River believed to be missing Levon Wameling

Utica, NY -- Utica police believe they've found the remains of missing Levon Wameling, the baby boy who disappeared several months ago.

The remains were found this morning by a state police dive team in the Mohawk River in North Utica. Utica police are awaiting testing before confirming that the remains belong to the missing boy, who would have turned 1-year-old on Aug. 31, said Sgt. Steven Hauck.

"Obviously based on the info we got, the fact that we recovered remains, there's a good possibility that it's of Levon," Hauck said.

(WKTV) - Utica police said in a press conference Friday afternoon that the remains of an infant were found in a container in the Mohawk River. No positive identification has been made.

Police began a search off Leland Avenue in North Utica for missing baby Levon Wameling on Friday morning. A large contingent made up of Utica police, New York State Police and a member of the district attorney's office were part of the search along the Mohawk River.

Seven state police divers also assisted and entered the water around 9 a.m. Friday. The remains were found a few hours later.

Utica police said they had received credible information from New York State Police on a possible location in the Mohawk River.

Utica (WSYR-TV) – The father of a child who has been missing from his home in the city of Utica since May was arrested on unrelated burglary charges on Friday.

State Police charged 27-year-old Jevon Wameling of Jay Street in Utica with burglary in the second degree.

They say he entered a residence in the village of Oriskany and stole money and jewelry on at least one occasion.

He was processed at the Marcy State Police station and arraigned in Town of Floyd Court in lieu of $10,000 cash or $25,000 bond.

Police have been looking for Levon Wameling since he was reported missing by his father two weeks after he disappeared.

Oneida County District Attorney Issues Statement On Levon Wameling Case

After receiving numerous phone calls regarding the investigation into the death of Levon Wameling, Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara has issued a statement.

McNamara says the D-A’s Office will not be offering public comment on specific information, status of evidence or any other facts or circumstances as they continue to review and evaluate the Wameling case.

He says because of the strong possibility of a future prosecution arising out of the investigation, any such commentary at this juncture would be premature, contrary to ethical standards and may have the potential to jeopardize the integrity of any such prosecution.

McNamara also says in seeking justice for Baby Levon, “we shall continue to thoroughly review the entire matter to its conclusion, at which time we shall make such commentary as the law allows.”

Utica Police: Infant’s Body Found In The Mohawk River Has Not Yet Been Positively Identified As Baby Levon Wameling

Although several news agencies are reporting that Baby Levon has been found, authorities say a positive identification of the body discovered in the Mohawk River has not yet been made.

The Onondaga County Medical Examiner‘s office has not released even preliminary findings regarding the infant’s remains, found in the murky water near the Leland Avenue bridge.

Utica Police Sergeant Steve Hauck says that they believe that the remains found, based both on their investigation and on the specific tips received about the location of the body, are in fact those of Baby Levon Wameling.  Because of that the active search for the baby has been suspended pending the autopsy results.

UTICA, N.Y., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- New York police say they are confident the remains of an infant found in a river are those of 10-month-old Levon Wameling, who has been missing since June.

A crew of about seven New York State Police divers found the remains in a specific spot on the Mohawk River, CNN reported Sunday.

Utica Police Sgt. Steve Hauck said the divers located the remains based on information about their location.

"We have to do our due diligence to confirm the identity, but we are confident they are the remains [of Levon]," he said.

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Court documents have been released in the burglary case involving Jevon Wameling, the father of Levon Wameling.

Wameling was arrested a day before remains of an infant were found in the Mohawk River, but it is not clear if Wameling directed police to that location.
