Patterson resident Donna O’Connor continued to hold out hope for her daughter who has been missing since July 22 after sending her mother a disturbing text message that read “I’m scared.”

Dana Lauren Bonanno, a 1998 Carmel High School graduate, was last seen by her roommates on Freeman Street in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn where she lives. O’Connor said the text she received from her only child came about 11:10 that night.

“I can’t stop to think about what’s going on and get upset. What good is that going to do,” said O’Connor, who was driving home from Florida on Thursday. “We just need to find her.”

O’Connor said she contacted police July 23 but was told her daughter could not be reported missing at that time because she was 33 years old and had no history of abuse. O’Connor continued to call police each day and said it was either July 26 or July 27 that they went out and spoke with her roommates, and they declared her missing July 27.

Family, Cops Searching For Missing Brooklyn Woman

Police: Dana Lauren Bonanno, 33, Has Not Been Seen Since July 22

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police were searching for a missing Brooklyn woman on Thursday night.

Greenpoint resident Dana Lauren Bonanno, 33, disappeared around 11 p.m. on July 22.

Roommates told The Journal News that Bonanno left the apartment at some point during the evening, taking only her purse, and never returned.

Bonanno has been described as 5-foot-1, 110 pounds ,with brown eyes, and was last seen on Freeman Street wearing a blue dress.

I understand the huge number of calls and unnecessary searches that would happen if missing persons reports were filed for people who were out of touch for only a day or two. HOWEVER, when a mother calls the police having received a message from her daughter stating that she's scared, AND cannot get in touch with her afterward, that should warrant an immediate report and search effort. No excuses for waiting so long about this young lady. The poor parents must be furious, besides being scared to death for their daughter. Pitiful judgement by the police department here.

PATTERSON — After sending her mother two text messages that read, “I’m scared” and “...”, former town resident Dana Lauren Bonanno disappeared from her Brooklyn home.

Although it had been a year since she had seen her daughter, the two kept in touch through texts and telephone calls, O’Connor said. Recently, Bonanno had grown upset, having been laid off from her job with a television company in May.

Bonanno also had confided in friends about the layoff and its effect on her.

“She definitely was sad about that,” said friend Liz Rivera, 32, of Manhattan.

But Bonanno also was part of a Brooklyn music crowd that hosts events across the borough featuring house and electronic music, making her a regular at those events every weekend, said Rivera, who became friends with Bonanno through that music scene.

Search Intensifies for Missing Greenpoint Woman

"All of her friends including myself have been posting daily on Facebook and are trying to extend our efforts in a search," friends posted on her Facebook page. "We have also been hanging missing persons signs in known spots she frequented, as well as by her apartment on Freeman Street in Greenpoint."

On her Facebook page friends note that she formerly worked for A&E television network and that she grew up in Stormville, N.Y.

"Dana moved to Brooklyn in 2012 and has been working on music production in her spare time hoping to make it a career move," her friends posted. "She likes music, exercise and bike riding, animals and being with friends."

I agree. Precious time was lost because she was officially reported as missing on July 27, five days after she disappeared. It is a total disgrace.

Last month, Donna O'Connor received a chilling, late-night text message0 from her 33-year-old daughter who lives in Brooklyn's Greenpoint neighborhood.

'I'm scared,' Dana Bonanno wrote in her text message to her mother. She hasn't been seen since.

The late-night text occurred on July 22, but Bonanno wasn't declared missing until five days later - despite repeated calls to police from her mother about her missing daughter.

'I can’t stop to think about what’s going on and get upset. What good is that going to do,' O’Connor told IOHUD.com on Thursday. “We just need to find her.”

Police finally went and spoke with Bonanno's roommate in the Greenpoint apartment they shared. The roommate told her she'd last seen Bonanno near their apartment, on Freeman Street.

Brooklyn woman still missing after two weeks

Dana Bonanno, a 33-year-old woman from Brooklyn, has been missing for two weeks after having an argument with her roommates and sending a text to her mother.

Dana Bonanno was last seen leaving her Greenpoint apartment 11 p.m. July 22, police said.

Police sources said Bonanno has tried to hurt herself in the past.

Her mother, Donna O’Connor, 63, said Bonnano has a history of anxiety issues that were likely compounded when she was laid off from her job as a paralegal at A & E Television a few months ago.

Then just before 10 p.m. on the night she disappeared she called her mother.

"I didn't understand what she was talking about," the mother said. "And then she called me after 10 and said she wanted a lawyer and she was being harassed by her roommates in her apartment.''

Ten minutes after leaving the apartment, Bonanno texted her mom the “I’m scared” message.

O’Connor said Bonanno texted the same thing to a friend a few minutes later and hasn't been heard from since.

Other than the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS, I haven't find other sources that have stated the following: "Police sources said Bonanno has tried to hurt herself in the past".

I have been looking for statements that were made by the police about this case, I have been looking for a link to a police press conference involving Dana's disappearance, but I haven't been able to find anything.

If anyone who is reading here come across information about this case that has been officially released by the police, I would appreciate if you could take the time to post the link.

O’Connor said Bonanno was laid off in April from her job as a paralegal at A&E Networks. She had worked as a legal secretary for the White Plains law firm Bleakley, Platt and Schmidt from 2001 to 2005, a representative confirmed.

While Bonanno was upset about losing her job, her mother said she was not prone to taking off during difficult periods and that they spoke every one to two weeks.

“This is not typical of her behavior,” she said.

Bonanno’s friend, Daniel Mandelbaum, reiterated that the disappearance is not like her.

Dana Bonanno vanished two weeks ago after sending her mother a panicked text message that read, "I'm scared." This stunning 33-year-old woman was last seen by her roommates at her apartment on Freeman Street in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn.

According to her mother, Dana called around 10 pm and said she was being harassed by her roommates and wanted an attorney. Her roommates claim she left the apartment around 11pm and never returned.

Three days before Dana Lauren Bonanno went missing, she had texted her mother, asking her to call 911 without explanation, her mother said.

Donna O’Connor of Patterson said she texted her daughter back, saying she was on the road headed to Florida and that Bonanno should call 911 if there was a problem. Bonanno responded curtly, O’Connor said, and she didn’t hear back from her again that night, July 19.

“I’ve heard her in an emergency and that didn’t sound like an emergency,” O’Connor said Monday.

Dana Lauren Bonanno found: Friends, family relieved

Friends and family expressed relief Wednesday after learning Dana Lauren Bonanno, a 33-year-old Brooklyn woman and Carmel High School graduate who had been missing since July 22, had been found.

Her mother, Donna O’Connor, released a statement Wednesday on the Facebook page created to share information about Bonanno: “To all Dana’s friends and to the press: Dana came home yesterday. The outpouring of love and best wishes has been overwhelming. We understand that everyone wants a confirmation that she is well and wish that at this time everyone respe(c)t her privacy and ours.”

Police said Bonanno had been at Elmhurst Hospital Center in Queens since her disappearance and that she was discharged Tuesday. NYPD Sgt. Lee Jones said Bonanno was in good condition but declined to say why Bonanno had been hospitalized or whether she admitted herself.
