UPDATED: 6:43 am EDT June 15, 2010

ORLANDO, Fla. -- It has been two years since Caylee Anthony disappeared.

Tueday marks the day that Caylee's family members reported last seeing the toddler in 2008.

Caylee's disappearance was not reported to police until nearly a month later.

The child's body was discovered five months later near the Anthony home.

Her mother, Casey Anthony, is awaiting trial for her murder.

Anthony maintains that a nanny by the name of Zenaida Gonzalez kidnapped Caylee.

2 years ago: Caylee’s last full day

Posted on June 15th, 2010 by Valhall

Two years ago today Caylee had a wonderful day with her grandma Cindy. They loaded up and drove to Mt. Dora to see her great-grandma Shirley and her great-grandpa Alex. It was a special day – Father’s Day. Caylee went with her grandma Cindy to the nursing home where she sang songs, “read” her favorite book, and colored – and inadvertently, through her adorable personality, her cuddling hugs and her precious songs, gave both her great-grandpa and her grandma smiles and laugh. It is the gift of a toddler. The smallest things can bring smiles to our faces, laughter in our hearts.

Later in the day she would return to her great-grandma Shirley’s house where she would eat chili, play with g-grandma’s cat, and probably cause some toddler mischief before leaving for her home in Orlando where her Jo Jo, her Tilly and her Tinker were waiting for her.

We really don’t know what happened past that point. But it is assumed this is the last full day of Caylee’s life. At some point in the next 24 hours her brief life came to an end.

For today, let’s remember Caylee as she was – and as she could have been. Let’s remember the light that DID shine for those less than 3 years. I have chosen this particular youtube video because it contains Caylee’s sweet voice singing her favorite song on that last full day of her life, and because the lullabies included are those Caylee deserved to hear for many nights to come. They are the comforting lullabies that all children should be able to fall asleep to knowing that the assurances contained in them are absolutely true – a certainty. It is the violation of that certainty that makes the injustice to Caylee touch our hearts.
