Eggs Recalled After Outbreaks

The Wright County Egg company, based in Iowa, has issued a recall of 228 million eggs because of reports of salmonella-related outbreaks in several Western and midwestern states.

The eggs are sold to contract companies including Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms and Kemps, according to several news reports.

Cal-Maine Foods Inc., the nation's largest egg seller and distributor, said it is recalling about 800,000 dozen eggs related to an expanded recall tied to a salmonella outbreak.

I don't think any made their way to Florida...But I did check mine, just in case...

Estee - I checked mine too. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Since I have already eaten 5 out of my carton, I guess they are o.k.

Me too, but since we'd already eaten some and I'm still sitting here I assumed we were okay. I imagine it would be scary if you'd just fed your kids and then realized they had been recalled....

What is really funny, I ate 2 yesterday morning, and I have had cramps and many visits to the bathroom today. But 2 friends of mine had the same thing yesterday, and they said they have not eaten any eggs. However, NC is not one of the states listed. My carton said they are from Morning Fresh Farms, but does not say where these farms are located.

You can also call the phone number, if there is one, on the carton just to really make sure.

I had eggs last night...mushroom,swiss omelette, soo mama I'm gonna pass my eggs to eva...By the way I believe the original egg article listed the codes that were on the end of the egg cartons which contained the recalled eggs...

OMG, I hope she wants them scrambled. I don't do fried eggs well. I usually burst the yolks, and my family likes the yolks running, but the whites well done.

I did have them as scrambled, but could only find an emoticon with a fried egg, so I changed it to fried eggs.

A half-billion eggs have been recalled in the nationwide investigation of a salmonella outbreak that Friday expanded to include a second Iowa farm. More than 1,000 people have already been sickened and the toll of illnesses is expected to increase.
