EVANSDALE, Iowa — Authorities in Iowa have taken steps to keep a closer watch on the father of one of two missing cousins, a man with a lengthy criminal history who stopped cooperating with police in the week-old investigation, court records showed Friday.

A judge has ordered Daniel Morrissey, 36, placed in a pretrial supervision program of the Iowa Department of Corrections while he faces September trials in two separate drug cases. The change means Morrissey, who has been free on bond, will be supervised by parole officers who will make sure he shows up in court and does not violate the terms of his release.

Heather Collins, Elizabeth’s mother, finds herself talking to God to get through the day. She draws on Bible verses stated in 1 John and Lamentations. She continues to cling to faith.

“Even though tomorrow will be a whole week, I know in my heart God has them safe somewhere and God will bring them home,” Collins told a crowd at a Thursday night prayer vigil in Waterloo for the missing girls.

“And he will protect our babies and he will bring them home safe,” Collins added.

WATERLOO, Iowa --- A judge has placed the father of a missing girl under supervision in connection with a pending drug trial.

Daniel Morrissey, father of 10-year-old Lyric Cook-Morrissey, has been out on bond since May 11 in connection with two methamphetamine arrests December 2011.

On Thursday, prosecutors with the Black Hawk County Attorney’s Office asked a judge to review Morrissey’s release, pointing out that Iowa Code state people charged with conspiracy to manufacture meth being a second offender — one of the charges Morrissey is facing — shall be under supervision as a condition of their release.

EVANSDALE, Iowa --- Divers are in place on the shores of Meyers Lake as the FBI prepares its search of the 26-acre where the only pieces of evidence behind the disappearance of Elizabeth Collins, 8, and Lyric Cook-Morrissey,10, have been found.

FBI spokesperson Sandy Breault spoke with the media briefly just after 11 a.m. and said a total of 10 divers are standing by at Meyers Lake.

Divers are waiting as the remainder of the sonar and search equipment is put into place.

Breault said divers will search for the girls, or recover any evidence that could help solve the mystery behind their disappearance on July 13.

A week after their 10-year-old daughter and 8-year-old niece went missing, an Iowa couple with a criminal past has stopped talking to authorities and hired a lawyer. Relatives aren't viewing the couple with suspicion, said a family friend, but the actions are seen as taking resources from the search for the girls.

Lyric Cook and cousin Elizabeth Collins disappeared a week ago, on July 13, after leaving Elizabeth’s Evansdale home about noon on their bicycles. The bikes were found about a mile away at Meyers Lake.

Daniel and Misty Morrissey, Lyric’s parents, were questioned numerous times by authorities, turned over their cellphones for inspection and took polygraph tests, but a family member said the couple felt harassed and accused of a crime and on Thursday decided to stop cooperating with police.

UGH! Narcissism rears it's ugly head. WHY would you ever stop cooperating with the police? Especially if they still havn't found your child. I hope they are not involved but when parents choose to protect themselves above protecting their child it speaks volumes. Either they are involved or they don't care. I don't know which is worse.

WATERLOO, Iowa --- A community waiting for some word of what happened to missing girls Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook-Morrissey found a way to take action Saturday morning.

A wave of pink-clad runners and walkers gathered in downtown Waterloo to support the girls and raise money for a fund started in their honor.

About 165 people gathered at the new riverside Waterloo RiverLoop Amphitheatre before setting off on the three-mile route.

Authorities believe missing Iowa girls are alive

EVANSDALE, Iowa – Authorities searching for two missing Iowa cousins have information that leads them to believe both girls are still alive, an FBI spokeswoman said Saturday.

FBI spokeswoman Sandy Breault said authorities "feel strongly" that 10-year-old Lyric Cook-Morrissey and 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins have not been killed. She refused to say what led authorities to that conclusion, but urged anyone with information about their disappearance to contact law enforcement.

Law enforcement officials will likely expand their search for two missing Iowa cousins now that the girls' disappearance is considered an abduction case, experts said.

But experts said it's hard to tell exactly what's going on because officials probably aren't disclosing everything they know, including why they are confident that 10-year-old Lyric Cook-Morrissey and 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins are alive.

FBI spokeswoman Sandy Breault said Sunday that investigators want to talk to anyone who was at Meyers Lake in the northeast Iowa town of Evansdale before 3 p.m. July 13. That's where the girls' bicycles were found.

Officials are now looking for a person who may have been paddle boating at Meyers Lake the day two missing girls vanished ten days ago.

The boater would have been on the Evansdale lake on July 13, where bikes were found that belong to 10-year-old Lyric Cook and eight-year-old Elizabeth Collins. No trace of the cousins has been seen ever since. Officials say the boater is not a suspect, but that investigators really need to talk with the person. So far, the boater has not answered repeated pleas to the public for information in the case.

Authorities are also asking anyone in Evansdale with home or commercial surveillance cameras to contact police.

Mom of missing Iowa girl says she passed polygraph

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – After submitting to a second polygraph test, the mother of one of two missing Iowa cousins said Monday the results should prove that she had nothing to do with their disappearance and allow investigators to focus their attention elsewhere.

Misty Cook-Morrissey said a state agent asked during Monday's polygraph whether she had anything to do with the abduction of her daughter, 10-year-old Lyric Cook-Morrissey, and niece, 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins. She said she was asked whether she knows where they are and if she could take investigators to them, adding she answered "no" to all those questions.

"It went well," she said in a phone interview afterward. "They can rule me out of their book and move on to something else."

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — The grandmother who was babysitting two Iowa cousins when they disappeared nearly two weeks ago after going for a bike ride said Tuesday that she has no idea how they ended up across town by a lake.

Wylma Cook, 72, said that Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins occasionally went biking while she babysat them several days a week at Collins' parents' home in Evansdale. But she said they almost always stayed within blocks and had never gone to Meyers Lake, a mile away.

"It shocks me, OK. The girls never rode that far, never. It was in a two-block area, that's it. They always returned like I told them," Cook said.

Snip- Wylma Cook says her 32-year-old son Jeremiah Cook was in stable condition Friday at Allen Hospital in Waterloo after the overdose Thursday night. She says he’s expected to be OK.

Wylma Cook says the disappearance of 10-year-old Lyric Cook-Morrissey and 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins has “taken a toll” on Jeremiah, who was having trouble sleeping and eating. She says he has no children but was very close to his nieces, considering them his “prized possessions.”

Seems to me this guy has more issues than
pending charges and missing family members.

If he thought authorities were suspicious of him
before and suggesting he had something to do
with the disappearance of the girls, he is gonna
have them down his throat big time now.

@Marcia - This is an uncle. He is not a father to either of the missing girls. If I understand correctly, he would be a brother of the two mothers. I am not aware of this guy having any pending charges.

The coverage of this case has brought out all the criminal media experts. At this time LE has not found signs of a struggle left behind by the girls. This has flagged most experts to believe the girls most likely knew their abductor(s).

Snip- Family members say Jeramia Cook, 32, has had trouble sleeping and eating since 10-year-old Lyric Cook, and her cousin, 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins, went missing while riding their bikes on July 13th.

Lyric’s Grandmother, Wylma Cook, says Jeramia has been depressed since the girls went missing. Wylma says Jeramia is now in stable condition Allen Hospital in Waterloo after he and his girlfriend, Carolyn Pieper, 36, overdosed on medication at 1415 Vine Street in Waterloo.

EVANSDALE, Iowa — Two weeks since the mysterious disappearance of two young cousins in this small northeastern Iowa town, life is far from normal for the families praying for their return.

Heather Collins, mother of 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins, sits up at night with the window open, “waiting for a police car to pull up into my driveway with Elizabeth in it.”

Dan Morrissey, father of 10-year-old Lyric Cook-Morrissey, wrestles with the unknowns and what-ifs.

“You wonder what she’s doing, where she’s sleeping at night,” he said.

Nighttime, when visitors have gone home and there’s time to think, is often the hardest, said Lyric’s mom, Misty Cook-Morrissey.

Every year, an estimated 800,000 U.S. children are reported missing to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Most are found quickly.

But for the families of those who don’t return — fewer than 100 each year — the uncertainty of what happened to their child can be excruciating. Even unbearable.

“To have a missing child or missing children is really a parent’s greatest nightmare,” said Marsha Gilmer-Tullis, director of the Family Advocacy Division at the center.

There’s even a special term for many of the emotions families feel: limbo grief.

Anyone else noticed frequent use of the words honestly and honest in the comments made by the Mother of the older girl? The woman who seems to be smiling in nearly every photo. I hope she is just someone who has a natural smile, and one whose use of those two words are simply part of her every day vocabulary.

You just described me. :) I wouldn't be too quick to jump on it. Many times, people use the word "honestly" to show emphasis on a finalized point of view. I use it frequently...and when I do, I can attest to the fact that I am being truthful, and using it to show emphasis. It's used largely in place of "really" in many people's vocabularies.

Now, I don't know how much smiling I'd be doing in these parents' circumstances. It's quite possible that Misty is very sensitive to not wanting to seem ungrateful for the help and time being given to search for her child. It's also possible that she is trying to put up a good front so that the other child's mom (with a heart condition, if I recall correctly) isn't more worried than she already is. It's also possible that she smiles when she gets nervous, and it is a natural reaction under stress (like when some people - my daughter! - get the giggles when they're uncomfortable or feeling a bit too much pressure). I don't for a moment think the woman is happy in her heart right now, and the smiling indicates to me one of the first two possibilities above. I have also seen pictures of her where she is clearly heavily grieved and heartbroken that she cannot find her daughter.

You do raise good points; however, I really (honestly!) think there's a reasonable explanation for both. :)

Soprano, I have known a woman nearly ALL
of my life..we were neighbors, she a few years
older than me. and we lived about 2 miles apart
on the same country road. Back then we were still
attending country schools, which in my state were
located 2 miles apart, so she went to a different
school, but I saw her often. Penny ALWAYS had a
smile on her face. I believe it was the way her
mother taught her, and insisted she always smile.
Anyway, I have wondered if the Mom might be one
of those people who always smiles.

I've also given some thought to the media possibly
wanting to silently point a finger at the woman by
publishing the smiling photos.

The use of honest and honestly ...
That one is more troubling to me.
There are three kinds of people I know who over
use these words.
1. Those who are lacking in self confidence and
feel a need to emphasize their honesty.
2. Those who have limited vocabulary and for
some reason seem to feel the use of honesty or

EVANSDALE, Iowa - A person of interest in the case of two missing girls turned himself in to authorities after the FBI has released surveillance photos of him Wednesday night.

The FBI said they believe the person might have information about the abduction of Elizabeth Collins, 9, and Lyric Cook Morrissey, 10, who went missing July 13.

LONG POND, Pa. -- Two young Iowa cousins missing for nearly three weeks have gotten the attention of two NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers.

Cars driven by BK Racing teammates Landon Cassill and Travis Kvapil will feature photos of the girls at the Pennsylvania 400 at Pocono Raceway on Sunday. The decals also will include a phone number for the National Missing Children hotline.

Iowa Racecar Driver Helps Spread Word and Faces of Missing Girls

NEWTON, Iowa- A racecar driver is doing his part to raise awareness about the disappearance of Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook. Iowa native, Michael Annett, will show the faces of Cook and Collins and the number for the tip line as he races in the U.S. Cellular 250 this weekend. "It made sense, not only for the people who will be at the track Saturday evening but the people at home that are watching," said Annett.

Friday, marks 3 weeks since the two girls went missing in Evansdale. Since then, Eastern Iowans have worked to spread the word and their faces.

"This is the best way we could come up with to try and help," said Annett. The race takes place at the Iowa Speedway in Newton this weekend.

EVANSDALE -- An FBI spokeswoman says authorities returned to a lake in Evansdale to check on leads related to the search for two cousins who have been missing for three weeks.

FBI spokeswoman Sandra Breault told the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier that authorities went Friday to Meyers Lake but that there were "no positive results."

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- The Lyric and Elizabeth Open Arms Awareness and Fundraiser event is planned for 3 to 8 p.m. Aug. 12 at Heartland Vineyard church, 1405 Greenhill Road.

Tickets will be $7 at the door and free for ages 12 and younger and for any relatives of the families involved.

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - Monday will mark one month since 9-year-old Elizabeth Collins and 10-year-old Lyric Cook disappeared in Evansdale.

The girls were last seen riding their bikes through Evansdale July 13th. Investigators continue following leads, but so far have come up empty.

Sunday evening, the girls' family and friends gathered in Cedar Falls, continuing to pray for their safe return.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – On Sunday, people gathered at Heartland Vineyard Church in Cedar Falls to remember 9-year-old Elizabeth Collins and 10-year-old Lyric Cook.

Investigators believe these girls were abducted from Evansdale on July 13th.

Volunteers at the event sold t-shirts, wristbands and auctioned items all to raise money for continued search efforts.

But organizers say what would have made this event even better, is if they didn't need to host it at all.

Authorities are leaving no stone unturned in the search for missing cousins Lyric Cook-Morrissey and Elizabeth Collins. The girls disappeared July 13th, after leaving their grandmother's house to go bike riding. Their bikes were found near Meyers Lake in Evansdale, Iowa that same day, but no girls. The public immediately assumed there was a sex offender involved, which is not that far-fetched in this day and age. It's actually a far-too-frequent reality.

As Iowa Kids Go Back to School, Attempted Abduction Reported in Waukee

Kids across the state headed back to school today, just over a month since Evansdale cousins Elizabeth Collins, 9, and Lyric Cook-Morrissey, 10, disappeared while riding their bikes.

Since then, there have been abduction attempts reported in towns across the state, including Marion, Cedar Rapids, Indianola and Dubuque.

This morning another incident was reported in Waukee.
