Police have provided a timeline in the disappearance of an Oregon woman who disappeared Tuesday between home and the Portland-area Starbucks where she worked, a five-minute commute.

A major crimes team and 24 detectives are now searching for Whitney Heichel, of Gresham, Ore., according to the city's police department.

Police say the young woman's Ford Explorer was found in a local Wal-Mart parking lot with its front passenger-side window smashed in.

GRESHAM, Ore. -- Many in Gresham who know Whitney Heichel, and others who have never met her, are ready to help find her.

Friday night police were asking them to keep away from the search scene, so they were doing whatever they could to raise awareness.

At the Real Time Coffee Chop in Gresham, Mandy Hutchinson changed the sign on her reader board. Instead of advertising pumpkin lattes it now reads “Bring Whitney Home.” It also advertises the tip line phone number. Whitney applied for work at Real Time and stopped for coffee nearly every day. Her parents are regular customers too.

The husband of an Oregon barista who disappeared en route to work earlier this week sobbed uncontrollably during Thursday’s press conference and was hardly able to utter a word as the missing woman’s mother begged for her daughter’s safe return.

‘It hurts to breathe right now,’ Lorilei Ritmiller told reporters while speaking of 21-year-old Whitney Heichel. ‘But we just want to find her and we're not going to stop.’

Heichel was reported missing by her husband, Clint Heichel, after she failed to show for her 7am shift at a Starbucks in the Portland suburb of Gresham. The drive from her apartment complex to the coffee shop takes less than five minutes.

Gresham police released a timeline in the disappearance of Whitney Heichel, and hoped that anyone with information would call the tip line at (503) 618-2719.

6:45 a.m. Tuesday: Whitney Heichel left for work, which is about five minutes from her home. Her husband Clint said that was the last time he saw her.

7:00 a.m. Tuesday: Whitney failed to show up for work at the Starbucks on Northeast Burnside Street in Gresham.

9:14 a.m. Tuesday: Whitney's SUV pulled into a Shell service station on 257th and Stark, and her bank card was used.

10:00 a.m. Tuesday: Clint Heichel called 911 to report that his wife was missing.
Tuesday mid-morning: Whitney's debit card was reportedly used at two more gas stations and an ATM.

1 p.m. Tuesday: Whitney's vehicle, a 1999 black Ford Explorer with tinted taillights and Ore. license plate 189EJZ, was found outside the Walmart in Wood Village.

Wednesday: Police announced they would be focusing the search on Dodge Park and Larch Mountain, where they said Whitney's vehicle had been.

10:00 a.m. Thursday: Police revealed at a press conference they had recovered "several items" while searching Dodge Park and Larch Mountain. Her family also spoke.

5:00 p.m. Thursday: Children playing at an apartment complex at 701 257th Ave in Troutdale found Whitney Heichel's cell phone and turned it in to police.

Gresham police announced her body was discovered on Larch Mountain Friday and a man was arrested for aggravated murder.

Jonathan Holt of Gresham is charged with killing the 21-year-old Gresham woman. Investigators said he is an acquaintance of the Heichel family and lived in the same apartment complex as Whitney Heichel and her husband Clint.

Police said some of Whitney Heichel's personal items were found in a parking lot in a garbage bin at the Walmart store where her SUV was discovered with the passenger window smashed out.

More of her belongings, according to police, were discovered in another garbage bin at a nearby shopping center.

GRESHAM, Ore. - Police announced Friday night in a somber news conference that they had found the body of missing 21-year-old Whitney Heichel on Larch Mountain and had made an arrest in the case.

Police arrested 24-year-old Jonathan Daniel Holt, of Gresham, on a charge of aggravated murder after a series of interviews with Holt.

During interviews, police said there were inconsistencies in Holt’s story. They said they were able to obtain Holt’s fingerprints and DNA, and additional evidence narrowed their investigation to Holt by Thursday.

At the same time Holt voluntarily came in for an additional interview Friday evening, police said investigators discovered Heichel’s body. Holt was also arrested at about that time, police said.

Her husband, Clinton, reported her missing at 10 a.m., about 2 and a half hours after she was supposed to report for work.

"I called her several times," Clinton Heichel said Wednesday. "I texted her several times and then actually at about 9:30ish, her phone got to the point where you would call and it went straight to voicemail."

Whitney Heichel's bank card was used to get gas at two different gas stations within eight minutes, her husband said, and police had been studying a surveillance video from the first station.

A man told police he recognized Heichel sitting in the passenger seat of her car at another station shortly before 9:30 a.m., but a man was driving.

On the morning that she vanished, Whitney Heichel kissed her husband goodbye before heading out into the chilly, damp air.

It was dark -- sunrise was still 45 minutes away last Tuesday morning -- and Heichel had a 7 a.m. shift at a Starbucks just a short drive away.

But she wasn't the only one outside the Heatherwood Apartments at that time, detectives would learn, as they investigated why the 21-year-old woman never made it to work.

Over the next four days of intense investigative efforts, Jonathan D. Holt, another resident of the Gresham apartment complex, would go from potential witness to prime suspect in Heichel's disappearance.

GRESHAM, Ore. – Police said Saturday there was no reason to believe that Whitney Heichel and her suspected killer were anything more than acquaintances.

Jonathan Daniel Holt, 24, was arrested Friday night in connection with the Gresham woman’s murder. Holt lived at the same apartment complex as Heichel and her husband Clint.

“I don’t know how we have these people around here, especially with our kids,” said neighbor Maria Sandoval, who lives in the same Gresham apartment complex.

Sandoval said she never saw Holt and Heichel together.

Another neighbor who was a close friend of Heichel's told KATU News that she had never seen Holt's face before Friday night's news conference.

Police said autopsy results would not be released Saturday and sought to derail speculation that Holt's relationship with the Heichel was anything more than as an acquaintance.

"There is no evidence that has surfaced in the investigation leading investigators to believe there was anything more," according to a city news release.

Holt first came to their attention Wednesday, when he volunteered to be interviewed, Junginger said, and two later interviews revealed inconsistencies in his statements. He submitted to fingerprint and DNA analysis, and that helped tie him to the SUV, the chief said.

It was not immediately clear if Holt had obtained a lawyer. He remained held without bail at the Multnomah County Detention Center.

Police did not respond to requests for comment Saturday and said in an email that no further information would be forthcoming.

GRESHAM, Ore. - Whitney Heichel, the 21-year-old Gresham woman who was found dead last week, was sexually assaulted before she was murdered, multiple law enforcement sources told KATU News.

The sources, who were not permitted to speak publicly about the case, said Jonathan Holt, the suspect in Heichel's murder, will be charged with sexual assault as well as murder. Holt is expected in a Clackamas County Court on Monday afternoon.

We expect to learn more about the charges when court documents are released following Holt's 3 p.m. arraignment.

Also on Monday, a Multnomah County Medical Examiner said an autopsy showed that Heichel died after she was shot.

OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) — A Gresham man has made his first court appearance on charges he killed a barista last week during a kidnapping and assault.

According to court documents released Monday, Holt committed kidnapping, sodomy and robbery in the course of killing her. An autopsy shows she died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Holt didn’t enter a plea during a brief appearance by video at the Clackamas County courthouse.

Jonathan Holt is facing seven counts of aggravated murder with a firearm.

Court documents released Monday show three of those charges said Jonathan Holt shot and killed her to conceal the crime of sodomy. Four other counts said he did it to conceal the crimes of kidnapping and robbery.

The young Oregon barista Whitney Heichel who vanished on her way to her job at a Starbucks was sexually assaulted before she was shot "multiple" times, according to charges filed today against the man arrested in her death.

Jonathan Holt, 24, a neighbor of Heichel and a member of the same Jehovah's Witness church, appeared via closed-circuit television in Clackamas County court wearing a suicide smock.

He reportedly cried throughout the arraignment, simply answering "yes," to the judge's questions.

Holt was charged with seven counts of kidnap, robbery, sodomy and murder. His case will soon be presented in a grand jury, and additional charges may be filed. If convicted of the most serious counts he could face the death penalty.

Johnathan Holt told investigators he waited outside Heichel's Gresham apartment on October 16 and asked her for a ride, according to the probable cause document. Then, just five minutes into the ride, he pointed a gun at Whitney and forced her to drive to Roslyn Lake and perform sex acts on him.

GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) - Gresham police investigated a report about a stolen car involving the man accused of murdering Whitney Heichel in August 2011

The Gresham police report said Jonathan Holt took off in a friend's rental car, didn't tell anyone including his wife and later admitted he had a "mental breakdown" and needed to "rethink his life."

The Gresham police report said Nathan Bargas called police after going to a Best Buy store with his friend Holt on Aug. 18, 2011.

In raw footage, Heichel said he talked to the suspect's wife, Amanda Holt, on Wednesday evening at a Jehovah's Witness gathering, where he gave her a hug.

Jonathan Holt was arraigned in a Clackamas County courtroom Friday and entered his plea, one week after he was arrested.

Jonathan Holt, the Gresham man accused of murdering Whitney Heichel, was indicted Friday in Clackamas County Circuit Court on additional charges of kidnap, robbery and sodomy.

Holt also has been charged with six counts of aggravated murder in the Oct. 16 shooting death of Heichel, a neighbor and fellow member of the Jehovah's Witnesses church. A grand jury issued an indictment Friday that included new crimes.

Holt was charged with several counts of aggravated murder as legal strategy. In such cases, the state typically presents various theories of a crime. In Holt's case, he is charged with committing murder to cover up the other crimes or to conceal his identity.

I have commented here before. Eric Primesberger's mother was a good friend of mine. Whitney was ALSO a friend of mine. Most of everything reported on Reality Chatter is correct. One thing I will say, Holt laid in wiat for Whitney to come out of her aprtment, he then forced her into the car. She did not give him a ride willingly. There is so much more that isn't in the public yet.....so much more. Randie

The news is slightly incorrect about the attendance at the memorial on Friday. They quit counting at 2400. It was estimated between 3000 and 4000. It was supposed to end at 5:00 pm...but, there were still more that wanted to pay their respects. The last one was hugged at 7:00 pm....they wouldn't quit till the last person was met and hugged. The private memoiral service on Saturday had 840 there. The family, two seperate congregations, the police department, the mayor and any Starbuck employees. When others arrivved they were taken out to a large tent in the parking lot if they really wanted to stay. Randie

Whitney was a beautiful, young woman. This was such a terrible, horrific thing that happened.

I saw a media picture of Whitney's mom giving Whitney's husband, who was crying inconsolably, a hug. It made me cry. It was very obvious from the picture that her husband and her family love her very much. And from what you wrote, she was a really beautiful woman on the inside too, to have so many people show up to pay their respects.
