Columbus Police search for missing woman Renee Eldridge

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Columbus Police Special Victims Unit are investigating after a Columbus woman mysteriously disappears.

Investigators say 25 year-old Nancy Eldridge, known as Renee by her family, has been missing since Saturday morning.

Her family believes someone came inside and kidnapped her from the home she shared with her mother. Family members say Eldridge came home around 3:00 a.m. after spending time with friends, who dropped her off.

"My mother returned to the home at 10:30 a.m. yesterday morning. Noticed that the screen has been removed from the window. Went into the house to find the back door wide open. My sister's room was ransacked. There was clearly a struggle in her room. Her keys, her cellphone everything was left here. She's the only thing missing," Nicole Eldridge, the victim's sister said.

Her car is also still in the driveway of the home.

Police say Eldridge is 5’7, 120 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair with pink tips. She was wearing black shorts, and a black tank top with stripes. They also say she has a rose tattoo on her right shoulder and an anchor tattoo on her left forearm.

Chastain Properties, where Renee Eldridge is an apartment manager, is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the missing person case, property General Manager Betty Hannah said.

Update: Family seeks help in finding Renee Eldridge

The family of 25-year-old Renee Eldridge says she is missing. It is seeking help from the public in finding her.

Eldridge of Columbus is a leasing agent for Chastain Properties, and the company is offering $5,000 reward for information leading to her return.

She is a 5-foot-7 white woman with a thin build. She has blue eyes and long black hair with red tips.

Her older sister Nikki Eldridge said when last seen her sister was wearing a white, black and turquoise blouse, black shorts and black and silver sandals.

Her father Ricky Eldridge said on Sunday morning that the last time his daughter was seen was at approximately 3 a.m. Saturday when friends dropped her off at her house on 46th Street.

He said that it was around 10:30 a.m. when her mother, Nancy Gray, who lives with Renee, discovered she was gone and that her room was in disarray.

"A mirror was broken," he said

"The mattress had been moved," Nikki Eldridge said.

UPDATE 7/6: A local business is offering a reward for the return of missing Nancy “Renee” Eldridge. A representative with Chastain Properties says they are offering $5,000.

PREVIOUS REPORTING: The Special Victims Unit is investigating the disappearance of a 25-year-old Columbus woman.  Police say Nancy Eldridge, known by her family as Renee, has been missing since Saturday morning.

“I’m frustrated. I’m hurt. I’m scared. I’m almost feeling hopeless at this point. I just want somebody just to help us. Help us find her,” Nicole said

Valley police confirmed to News Leader 9, the body found in the creek under the Hopewell Road bridge was positively identified as 25-year-old Renee Eldridge, of Columbus.

Investigators notified her family just a short time ago.

Valley police say now that the body has been identified, they have a starting point to continue their murder investigation.  Columbus investigators have said they have spoken with several people in the missing person’s case but as of late Tuesday morning, they have not identified a suspect or a person(s) of interest in Renee’s disappearance.

An autopsy is being performed, and police say the preliminary cause of her death is expected to be blunt force trauma to the head.  

On Tuesday, Columbus investigators joined Valley investigators at the creek bank, looking at the scene where Eldridge was pulled from the waterway.  

Eldridge, a leasing agent for Chastain Properties, was last seen around 3 a.m. on July 4, when friends dropped her off at her home on 46th street.

Missing Columbus woman Renee Eldridge found dead in Valley creek

Update from Valley Police Department, 4:40 p.m.
 
The Alabama Medical Examiner’s Office has released its findings in the identity of the white female homicide victim found in the Osanippa Creek off of Hopewell Road earlier this morning.

She has been positively identified as Renee Eldridge, 25, of Columbus, Ga. Eldridge had been reported missing by her family on July 4.

The preliminary finding of the cause of death has been determined to be blunt force trauma to the head. The manner of death has been ruled as a homicide.

Investigators of the Valley Police Department have been in contact with Columbus Police Department investigators and are working together to solve this crime.

Dozens gather to celebrate life of Renee Eldridge

Columbus, Ga.- Less than two hours after authorities identified the body of Nancy “Renee” Eldridge on Tuesday, dozens of people gathered outside the pool at Cooper Creek Village where Renee worked as a property manager.

The office to the property has not been open since Friday.

A return sign still sits on the door, which signified that Renee was supposed to be back in the office at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning.

The vigil was supposed to be a gathering that would usher Renee home, but her death turned it into a celebration of her life.

Valley Police feel ‘confident’ they’ll solve Eldridge murder

Though Valley Police are in the early stages of the murder investigation involving a Columbus woman, they say history dictates that this case will be solved.

Authorities first found the body of Nancy Renee Eldridge Tuesday morning in Osanippa Creek in Valley. Police say the 25-year-old’s cause of death stemmed from an injury Eldridge suffered from blunt-force trauma to the head.

Now, Valley Police and Columbus Police are looking for possible leads for suspects. According to Assistant Chief of Police Maj. Mike Reynolds, Columbus authorities have been “very cooperative” in the effort. Reynolds says police are trying to create a timeline of events that lead to Eldridge’s murder.

Police, prosecutors investigated previous sexual assault of murder victim

COLUMBUS, Ga. — Family members of Renee Eldridge shared information with WRBL about a previous rape investigation involving the 25-year-old, whose body was found in a creek in Valley, Ala. Tuesday morning.

The family said they believe her murder could be linked to the rape.

The family did not identify the man.

WRBL obtained police records involving Renee Eldridge.

In a report from December 20, 2014 Eldridge reported being tied up and raped.
