New Motions Filed In Casey Anthony Case

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Late Thursday afternoon, the defense in the case against Casey Anthony filed motions to delay Casey's check fraud trial and to keep Leonard Padilla from talking about their conversations while he was involved in Casey's case.

VIDEO REPORT: Defense Team Files New Motions

Thanks for posting this! I haven't had a chance to read it all yet but I did hear about it yesterday. From what I understand, even the other lawyer ON HIS SIDE was baffled by it. (If I heard right, lol) I'll respond more once I have the chance to read them.

I heard this on HLN and they said that Jose Baez is claiming that Leonard Padilla was working for him. Leonard Padilla stated that this is not true. Leonard went on to say that he was there for the purpose of convincing Casey to help him find Caylee. He further stated that he had his own personnel who worked only for him. Once again, Jose Baez is talking nonsense, and proving as always that he is full of hot air.

In the Privacy Agreement, at the link Tracey provided above, looks like LP & his group each signed a document saying they wouldn't talk about anything they overheard while watching KC.They signed it in Aug.2008.

Good catch Michelle. It looks like LP better start reading things before he signs them.

Looks to me like Leonard put himself in one heck of a perdiciment. Through he may not have actually "worked" for Baez, he certainly did sign an agreement. I seem to remember hom talking about that too (way in the beginning) that he nor anyone working for him were to speak to KC.

Although I haven't read through all of these documents yet, I read that agreement a little differently. I didn't see it as saying he couldn't repeat ANYTHING they heard. I think Baez, ONCE again, wants to have control over something he doesn't legally have a right too.
To me, it looks like they couldn't try and get KC to talk about the case. It doesn't say he can't repeat what he heard. I'll go back today and read it more thoroughly though. I just think Baez is grasping at all straws. I mean, WHY, if KC didn't do anything and is NOT GUILTY, is he Soooo worried about what she had said? Hmmmm....

You are right...the privacy agreement didn't say anything about not repeating what they heard.Sorry everyone, didn't mean to give out the wrong info.I was upset that there was an agreement & forgot the details.

The only thing I can see that defense might argue about is the paragraph saying that any actions not covered in this agreement will be resolved in favor of protecting the defendant's rights against self incrimination.

I thought the number 1 condition in the privacy agreement prevented LP from repeating anything Casey said, but after looking again, it did not specify verbally repeating the statements. It just said they can't record any of Casey statements using audio, video, stenography, or photography.

Of course the defense won't admit Casey's guilt, but I think most of the defense's actions indicate that they know Casey is guilty and that they are trying to get her off so she doesn't have to pay for her crime. If she was innocent, why would the defense push to move the trial date and cause their client to have to sit in jail for another year?

It reminds me of the county board person (can't remember his title) who said he didn't want to give Kronk more money to just fight the release of his phone records. He said why would anyone want to fight information coming out. It should be about finding the truth. This means ALL information should come out.
This is the one thing I wish our court system was mainly about, FINDING THE TRUTH! There should be a complete and accurate picture of ALL the information for a jury to consider. It bugs the crap outta me when a jury can't be made aware that a rapist or murderer, for example, may have a previous murder or rape conviction with the exact same circumstances. Yet a jury can't be told because it may be prejudicial. I would want to know the WHOLE story about a case, not just what a lawyer can finagle to get in or keep out.

I agree AJ. I think LP made it perfectly clear WHY he was coming to Orlando. To TALK to KC and ask her to lead him to Caylee. So, for Baez now to say LP and crew were working for him, is ridiculous. Funny, how Baez can take any situation and spin it to fit a motion in his favor. The funnier thing is that it almost NEVER works in his favor. I have to give it to Judge Strickland though. He tries so hard to be cautious with his words and not make Baez feel like a total schmuck and saying "Mr. Baez, your motion is a joke. Get outta my courtroom."

Tracey, you're right..... LP did make it PERFECTLY clear why he was going to Orlando and it had absolutely NOTHING to do with Bozo. For Bozo to now claim that LP was working for him is just laughable. But we all should brace ourselves..... this is just ANOTHER in a VERY LONG LINE of motions filed by Bozo that we can expect to see!!!

Yes, definitely. Ms. Lyons has said she will be preparing a bunch of motions to be heard. So, I can't wait to see what they are.
You know what gets me about her? She seems to be an intelligent, very intelligent actually, woman. So, WHY, WHY, is she going along with Bozo and his shenanigans? All I can think is, that she sees KC is very likely on the DP track and wants to save her. And maybe she sees with Bozo at the helm, it's even more of a possibility. I just find it SO hard to believe ANY reasonably intelligent person believing any of KC's story.
