Leah Freeman -- Found Deceased 8/3/00
Leah Nicole Freeman was a bright, beautiful 15 year-old living with her loving family in Coquille, Oregon.
On June 28, 2000 Leah disappeared. The community searched and searched for five long weeks. On August 3, 2000 Leah’s slain little body was found approximately nine miles from home. She had been murdered. The only information Leah’s family has been given to date regarding her tragic death is that it was the result of “homicidal violence.” They have not been given a detailed cause of death. The cause of death, as listed on Leah's death certificate, is “pending investigation.” To this day her murder remains unsolved.

Re: Leah Freeman -- Found Deceased 8/3/00
Well...I've been trying to gather addresses all day. However...it seems that over the last year most all of these programs have gone to an online "form" for reporting a story, so I guess we'll just have to each go to :
http://www.forensicfiles.com/pitchastory.htm
http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/48hours/main3410.shtml
http://www.oprah.com/contactus
http://www.unsolved.com/tips.html
http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form11b.html?1
I will continue to look for snail mail address as well. I used to sell advertising so I am going to put together a "media kit" to mail out to every big news agency I can find addresses for. I have already started making copies of all of the documents from Leah's website, and I want to print off her picture on photo paper so it makes an impact.
That is my project for this week.
Cory, I'll send you a completed one when I get it togehter, ok? You should know what is going out every step of the way!

Re: Leah Freeman -- Found Deceased 8/3/00
Leah Freeman murder not solved, but not forgotten
COQUILLE, ORE - It has been nine years since a young, teen-age, girl was murdered in Coquille. But, in that time, neither her family nor the investigators involved have wavered in their belief that justice will one day be served.
This June 28th passed in Coquille as too many of those dates have in recent years, with a candlelight vigil to remember the day that 15 year old Leah Freeman disappeared, only to be found murdered several weeks later.
Cory Courtright, Freeman's mother, says it is another part of their effort to keep Leah's story from fading. "I just grab any chance I can to keep her name out in the public where I feel it belongs."
While the case is considered "Cold," Coos County District Attorney Paul Frasier and investigators involved in the case say it is still very much active.
"Granted, we don't have someone working on it eight hours a day," says Frasier, "but as soon as something comes in, we're on it."
And, while they have never named any suspects in the case, they have tried to exclude people from consideration when they could. Which is something they have not done when it comes to some young men named in public court documents that were no longer sealed back in 2001.
Frasier says when a tip comes in they look into it and go through the investigative process, " and if it excludes someone, you know, obviously, we know that's not the way to go. All I can say about the documents released a couple years ago is the persons named there have not been excluded as potential suspects."
While that doesn't mean they are any closer to a resolution in the case, two things have happened in the last year to at least offer some promise for the future.
One was the sudden developments in another high profile cold case in Oregon, the case of Stephanie Condon. The sudden developments in that ten year old case have shown how fast things can change.
But, for investigators, the other change is even more important. It is the addition of a new set of eyes to take a closer, and fresher, look at the case.
Coquille Police Chief Mark Dannels says one of the big obstacles that he has faced since coming on board was to actually put the case in chronological order, where it is manageable. "One of the advantages is the fact now they've got some new eyes, a fresh look looking into it, new technology out there for the collection of evidence that we're gonna look at and see if there's some approaches there we can take."
Dannels says they have an obligation, he as Chief and his Department, to see if they can solve this case.
But what it all still seems to boil down to is that, to this point, justice has been denied to a young girl and the family she left behind, for nine years. Nine years where some folks, it is still firmly believed, out of either misplaced loyalty or fear, have helped to deny that justice.
"We challenge anybody, and I encourage anybody that has any new leads or information to contact the Coquille Police Department," says Dannels, "if they want to speak to me personally I welcome that."
For Freeman's mother and her family, Leah's murder just needs to be solved, "it needs to end...Leah deserves that."
To find out more about the case you can visit the website leahfreeman.com. Family and friends are also planning a second candlelight vigil this year for August 3rd, to commemorate the day in 2000 when Leah's body was found.

Cory, this case is PERSONAL to me now. I told you, something has drawn me to her. I will not rest unil your baby's killer is caught! Justice4all (T2) has a blog started and we are going to add the girls. We talked & we both REALLY want to get this case back out in the spotlight. I can tell you that justice4all's blog has mostly Hlaeigh right now but Leah & the Anthony case will be added. Tight now, when you do a goole search on Haleigh, his wordpress blog is one of the first to pop up. We WILL find the bastard!
Love ya hun!
Re: Leah Freeman -- Found Deceased 8/3/00
Fysty, you have no idea how much your words there mean to me. And although we are completely across the United States from one another and have never met in person, my heart believes in you. Seems kinda sad to me that it took someone this far away from me to actually believe those words. You seem to have more gumption than the actual people working on her case. (If in fact they are working on it - how would I know - never do I hear a word from them any more unless I go to the PD, to voice my opinion on how the case is progressing)
I want you to know Fysty, that every single word I said about Leah in the poem I wrote was 100% true. It was ALL true - every single word of it ....and then some. If ONLY you could have "truly known" her.
As for finding the bastard who is responsible for her death..........OH how I wish that could happen. Personally, and of course it is my opinion, I don't think a person has to look too far to find him. Seems to me, the documents speak in volumes as to who killed Leah.
I miss her soooooo much.
I love you too Fysty.

Hi LostnChat!
It's a pain beyond words. One I wish on NOONE! I keep hearing this "as time goes by, things will get better"......... 9 miserable years now and not a whole lot better. I'm getting pretty frickin' impatient.

Re: Leah Freeman -- Found Deceased 8/3/00
Oh Lost! I am so sorry for your loss. A loss is a loss, and I can see you still have pain from this. I would never want to belittle your loss.
There are two main things I want......1. Leah's killer behind bars where he belongs. 2. To know what happened to Leah. Some may think that to not know might be best for me. But what I say to that is ...... The "not knowing" is what is driving me crazy. It is what it is. And believe me I have heard some pretty greusome stories as to what happened to her. If I had one thought (the one that really happened to her) in my mind, then that would be that. I cannot eliminate any of the rumors I've heard, as I don't know. So what is the point in law enforcement not letting me know? Good Lord. It's not like I am a suspect or anything. And it pisses me off because Leah was "MY" daughter - not theirs. It's not like I would tell anyone what they told me - but I think that's why they don't. GRRRRRRR!
The D.A. kept trying to find groups that I could join so I could share Leah's story with others and vice versa. That sure didn't last long.... Every damn group I went to, they all were discussing their court cases, and how this and that happened in the court room, and how their bastards were in jail and blah blah blah.......I HAD NOTHING IN COMMON WITH THESE PEOPLE!!! I surely didn't want to go listen to how their perpetrator had been put away. It made me jealous. It really did. Please don't misunderstand that - EVERY SINGLE MURDERER SHOULD BE PUT AWAY! Even Leah's.
Thank You for your words Lost.
GRRRRRRR!

Hi DebB!
All the information I have is in the documents.
Shortly after her boyfriend "failed" his polygraph, he lawyered up. As did his friend. So after lawyering up, they are protected by their attorney, and no longer have to speak with police. Sucks huh?? (Keep in mind, he came directly to my house to inform my family and I that he "passed it with flying colors".) What a chump he turned out to be. As far as I'm concerned - him and his family can go straight to hell. Him and his dad lied straight through their teeth about the polygraph results. Why???? Gee I just wonder why.

My goodness, I am so terribly sorry for the loss of your beautiful daughter. I must admit, I too, had not read about this case, until today. I had seen it on the forums. However, I didn't think I could take on another loss of a child. Today I felt a pull to read about her and was shocked at what I am seeing. This is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE! To not tell a MOTHER what happened to her own child! NOT RIGHT! Every dept handles their cases differently. So, to me, this means, they can tell you. They are just choosing not too. My GOD, how can they be so cruel? My heart is breaking for you. I can't even put into words how much my heart goes out to you. I will also be making this my priority. This is a perfect example of why I got involved in these cases. These children and families deserve justice. Your daughter had a name, she was a person, she had a family who loved her and loves her still. She is NOT just a case or a file to you and the family who loved her. I cannot believe the way LE is treating you. Yet we get to see on TV, YES, TV, what Casey Anthony orders in her jail cell. Are you freaking kidding me? The person/persons responsible for this don't get to just go on with their life. Just KNOW this, my new friend, when Fysty says she cares about something and is going to do something, believe her. This is the kindest, warmest, finest yet determined, and strong woman I have met. And look, because of Fysty and this site two more people, (myself and another member I read) know about Leah and are going to help to get this story back in the news. Now we just need to keep it going.
Again, I just want to say, I am so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful daughter, Leah. I will be thinking of you and keeping you and your family in my prayers I will pray for answers and that there can be some resolution and her killer brought to justice very, very soon. NINE YEARS is UNACCEPTABLE and LONG ENOUGH!

awaiting justice wrote:Cory,
I cant find the words to offer you. I acknowledge your pain, loss and anger. There are clearly so many more emotions one cant even imagine.
I can tell you that I hadnt heard of this tragedy till yersterday, by reading this thread. Your daughter was stunning and so blessed to have had you for her short time on earth. You will be reunited again, and until then, she is with you and all her loved ones. Safe from harms way.
I am so glad that this case is getting out there. This can only lead to more answers and ultimately, justice for Leah. I like the ideas that have been offered by this thread and love the pics of the memorial.
Im not sure if Nancy Grace has been emailed or contacted about this case. I will not call it a coldcase, as it seems pretty warm to me. Hopefully, the avid crime fighters you are among, wil help create the heat to have justice served.
I will be looking into NG's website to see if there is anything about this case on her site.
Whether there is or not, I will be emailing her as many details I can find regardless. I will ask her for help in getting answers you so deserve. If I can help you in anyway, I will, as it is the least I can do for you.
Movers and shakers, gets things done. Lets move and shake LE on this one. The way I see it, we are half way there.
Sincerely,
AJ.
What a nice post AJ! After 9 long years it seems never ending. Sooooo many talk shows and media have been emailed . Mostly here recently. I can't imagine what it takes to get this case the attention it deserves. Poor Leah. She lost her life and now she can't have JUSTICE???? Right here in America....who would have thought?
There are some recent posts on Websleuths if you care to check it out. Also Tish put up a nice article on CSO. I feel so bad because people have commented on the topic and I can't respond.
I was blessed to have had her for the 15 years I did. I miss her so much my heart litterally breaks. To think that "someone" could hurt that little girl like that is beyond my thinking.
And yes Nancy Grace has definitely heard of Leah Freeman! But I guess she's not interested.
Thanks for your comment AJ! It is very nice and I appreciate your words.

Hi Tracey!
Yes it does seem cruel to not tell the mother of a murdered teen how she died....but that IS in fact the case. Actually, for a time, I can see them withholding that information, but for 9 freakin' years??? Good Grief! Exactly how much of this torment do they think I can handle? Unbelievable! Sometimes I think they forget just who that little girl belonged to. So annoying.
Yeah...you're right - she did have a name, she did have family and she was a person. Seems to me......she is just another number to them. I often ask myself if this were "their" child, would we be here today??? I HIGHLY doubt it.
Noone ever told me that life was fair.....but THIS is a stretch beyone that isn't it??
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers Tracey........I will continue to seek her justice no matter how long it takes.

I know that NOTHING will bring her back, but by God, as an American citizen THIS GIRL DESERVES HER JUSTICE. And as her Mother, I will stop at NOTHING to get just that......JUSTICE FOR LEAH!
Your love and prayers are accepted with open arms and much appreciated. God Bless.

Re: Leah Freeman -- Found Deceased 8/3/00
Exactly Lost......... She wasn't just a number. Leah was sooo much more than just a number. But LE doesn't look at it that way. To them she WAS /IS just another number. Which was my point.....IF she had been "one of theirs" I highly doubt we would be in this situation today. That is the way I feel. And shame on them for treating me so badly - I am the one left to deal with this horrible horrible tragedy. I am the one who has to see to it that she get her justice (after their neglegent bs they did on her case). So it all boils down to me.....and they don't like me. Ya know what I say to that?? All the more reason to be "IN THEIR FACES".
Ahhhh the support groups. No such support groups exist in Coos County! There is a group called "Parents of murdered Children"......the closest one to me is in Portland (Oregon) which is around what 350 to 400 miles away from where I live. I did drive to Portland and attend one meeting. That's too damn far to drive. Also, I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a National Parents of Murdered Children last August in Irvine California. Now THAT was the best thing I've done for myself since Leah's death. But seriously, who can afford to do all that traveling?? Sure it was awesome to go to the National one - but those are only once a year. I actually thought about going to Cincinnatti to take their course and have a group here in Coos County - Gotta get this monster off my back first - I CANNOT BE OF ANY ASSISTANCE TO ANYONE UNTIL LEAH'S JUSTICE IS SERVED. So there went that idea.
I DO know you are sincere in what you say and I appreciate your prayers. Thank you!

Um...I don't think a person can just march in to a coroners office and demand to know the cause of death. Especially one that is 9 years old and pending investigation. Hmmmm..........makes ya wonder just how long they anticipate this case will be "pending". Eternity I guess.

Oh Cory, I was making a sick joke concerning any support group ! You are exactly right in your thinking and that is exactly what I meant ( was knocking support groups or the lack of them ). Maybe I worded it all wrong, but what you said in response is exactly what I meant....... they can be nothing more than a joke ( especially in your need, with no info, etc. ). Support groups can be fine for some situations ( I've been there myself ), but what I meant was that there are none I know of that fit the needs you have.
I honestly do care about you Cory, and your search for the truth. OMG, I don't know what I would do if I were you ! I am SO sorry my post came off the way it did to you and I sincerely apologize to you.
((((( gentle hugs )))))
Lost
I know you do Lost! Really I do. Let me apologize....I'm sorry. For some reason I am very depressed today. And angry! And hurt! It just NEVER stops. Today I hate LE as much as I hate Leah's killer. WE SHOULDN'T BE HERE PEOPLE!!!! And yes, I blame LE. Perhaps they should learn how to do their jobs before they are given a badge. A ROOKIE was placed on her case early on!! Yes that is very true. A rookie on a high profile murder case........Make any sense to you??? #$^%#$^$&^&'ing IDIOTS!

Cory,
Every time I think of the strength that you have, it amazes me. It also give ME strength. I can only hope & pray that you get the answers that you so desperately want & need. Today is a very sad day for me, knowing what you must be going through. Please keep in mind, my friend, that I'm only a phone call away.

Leah Freeman Tribute
We just uploaded a brand new tribute to Leah Freeman. I would like to thank Fysty for her help in getting me the pictures and helping me pick music. This is a sad day, as it is the ninth anniversary of the day Leah's body was found. I hope Leah will soon get the justice she deserves.

Cory, I hope that this video helps ease your pain, even if it is just for a nano second. Put a smile on your beautiful face. A mothers love is so strong and I can feel yours right through the words that you write.
I told you from the beginning, there was just something about the two of you. My heart has been full of sadness today, knowing what day it is. But this video made mine a little lighter & I pray it does the same for you my friend. I hope you like the songs we chose.
I also want to add that had it not been for J4A, this video would not have been made. He's a fantastic video maker & we are not only HAPPY to have him but PROUD as well. Thank You J4A!
Nine years is too long for her killer to be free. I have some very exciting news for you Cory. I'll chat with you about it later. Love & Hugs!
Love Always,
Fysty

This was a beautiful tribute for a beautiful young girl whose life was cut much too short. I am so sad to think that her killer has gone on to live his life for the past nine years. I hope he has nightmares every single night about what he did. Because although he has not been caught yet.... HE knows what he did..... and so does GOD.
Stay strong, Cory. I pray you will find the answers you so desperately need very soon.
Thank you, J4A and Fysty, for your continued support in finding the person who took Leah's life.

J4A and Fysty -
I saw this BEAUTIFUL tribute to my precious Leah Nicole yesterday. Yesterday was the vigil and I had absolutely no time to post about it. I watched the video with constant tears streaming down my face...but believe it or not, they were some of the happiest tears I've shed. It is by far, one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for Leah and myself. Somehow, I feel she see's this and I can almost hear her little giggle. She would be so proud to know that I am amongst such awesome kind people. Thank you hardly seems enough....You've left me speechless!!!
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH J4A AND FYSTY!!!!

She would be so proud to know that I am amongst such awesome kind people. Thank you hardly seems enough....You've left me speechless!!!
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH J4A AND FYSTY!!!!

I saw this BEAUTIFUL tribute to my precious Leah Nicole yesterday. Yesterday was the vigil and I had absolutely no time to post about it. We were happy to do it and I'm glad you liked it. Justice for Leah!

Re: Leah Freeman -- Found Deceased 8/3/00
Right about the time this case was being posted is when my computer was crashing, so this is the first time I've really gotten to sit down and read this. I'm speechless.
My youngest daughter is just a couple of years older than beautiful Leah would be now. So this really IS personal.
First, I want to say to Cory...I cannot fathom what these years have been like for you. It's beyond my imagination the pain you have experienced. This is a travesty.
I still have a lot more to read about this, but I just wanted to make a quick post tonight to say to Cory that my prayers are with you and your family. People always say time heals everything; I'm not so sure of that. I've never lost a child, but it has always been my BIGGEST fear in life. I know some here have; c4c lost two of her daughters and my prayers are ALWAYS with her, also. This is one of those times when I just sit and stare at this computer and am frozen with heartache for this mother. It's just not the natural order of things in life to have to bury one of our children. I can hardly even think about it, much less fathom the pain that you, cory, have endured all these years.
I have so much more to say, but will leave this for now, as I'm really all teary now; this is new to me. So I will have to come back and read more on this case. For now, I just want to let Cory know how I wish I could take away her pain. But I know I can't, so just know that my heart aches for you, Cory, and you and your family are in my prayers now and forever. Mimi

Babbette, LoveDogs, Fysty, Sunni and AJ -
Your thoughts, prayers, and best wishes are accepted with open arms. It's hard to express my gratitude for your kind words. There is so much love and support in your words, that it's almost hard to wrap myself around it all. (if that makes sense!) I just want to reach through the screen and hug you all! This is the best I can do for now.....
Mimi -
What a nice post...Thank you. Maybe for some time heals.....but certainly not here in this case. I know my life forever changed that horrible night and that nothing but nothing will ever bring Leah back. And perhaps I will never have "closure". But surely, if there were some justice here it would give me some peace of mind. To think that someone is actually getting away with murder truly makes me sick. I hope the person(s) responsible for Leah's death is living the most miserable life imagineable.

Cory, I can't say I know how you feel, because I don't.... I can only imagine... and my heart truly aches for you. Just like Mimi, my biggest fear has been to lose one of my kids.... I honestly don't know how you bear it. But I know you must go on to see that justice is done... to see the person who took your beautiful daughter away from you is punished to fullest extent.
I, too, would like you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I know nothing will ever bring Leah back, but seeing her killer punished would hopefully give you a peace of mind you can't otherwise attain.
You are very strong to fight this battle for so long.... but please know that you are not alone.

Cory, I don't think I have told you, but you are in my prayers every night when I get into bed and every morning before I get up. Closure is a word that is over-used, but catching the person/persons who did this to Leah will offer you some relief in your grief. There is no such thing as closure for the parents and family, only for the police and media.
I admire you for your strength and I honestly believe the perp will be dealt with, if not in this life, then in the next.
Lots of love going out to you and your family.

Sadly enough Snaz......that was my biggest fear. When I say my life forever changed on June 28, 2000......I mean it REALLY changed. I remember back in 1986, both my daughters were just little. I was hearing the news on tv about a 14 year old boy from Myrtle Point Oregon....just 9 miles from Coquille, who had disapperared. It was a terrifying story about a young boy who had disappeared from our County Fair. To this day, his remains have never been found. So on August 14 I save that day to pray for a young man named Jeremy Bright who's family is obviously to this day completely and totally devastated. I have often wondered how Leah's case could possibly be worse. It is then I remember Jeremy.
God Bless Leah and Jeremy.
God Bless Leah and Jeremy.
