Where are the Parents?
Why do some people feel that it isn't necessary to keep an eye on their kids? I came across a video where a teenage girl touches an electric fence and then encourages her younger brothers to touch the fence.

It's not bad enough that the parents are nowhere to be seen while this is going on, but it is also obvious that this girl's online activities aren't being supervised. Her Youtube profile lists killing and cutting as her hobbies, and it has a couple more videos that she made of her brothers engaging in dangerous activities while emulating the Jackass TV series.
Parents need to play an active role in their children's lives and make sure they are doing their homework and staying in school. They should spend a lot of time with their children and work hard to instill good moral values in them. They should check on their kids frequently when they are outside playing, and they should definitely monitor their children's online activities. I also believe that they shouldn't leave younger siblings home alone with a young teenager any longer than absolutely necessary.
It can only lead to bad things when kids have no guidance or supervision and have too much free time on their hands. They can end up hurting themselves or somebody else. They can end up getting hooked on drugs, dropping out of school, and falling into a life of crime.
There was just a case in the news last week where 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten was murdered. Allegedly the suspect is a 15-year-old girl. If the killer was indeed a 15-year-old girl, it makes me wonder what kind of upbringing she had. Did her parent's play an active role in her life and work hard to instill good moral values in her? Did she have a structured home life, or was she pretty much allowed unlimited freedom to do as she pleased?
I'm not saying that it is always a parent's fault when their children turn out bad. Somebody could be the best parent in the world and have a child that takes the wrong path in life. However, if you are a good parent that is active in your children's lives, there is a much better chance that your children will turn out good and choose the right path in life.

Re: Where are the Parents?
J4A, you are right to ask where the "parents" are, IMO. The children in the video don't seem to realize that this "electric fence" could kill them. It could stop their heart by touching this fence. I remember as a child, living near a farm that had a fence, just like this one. Very good article, J4A.
Excellent message, J4A. Teasing your siblings is generally a given when growing up, but this girl is proud of wanting to intentionally hurt her little brothers and seems to enjoy it. Enough to video it and post it on the internet, for a laugh? Having unlimited freedom at a young age, especially unmonitered online activities, equals disaster. It comes down to good parenting, communication and awareness. Basically, knowing your children and what they do with their time.
That was sad. What a mean girl. I have a younger brother and a younger sister, as well as three older brothers, and we always looked out for each other. We wouldn't have dreamed of doing something to hurt each other. Yeah, I see big things in her future, tsk tsk tsk.
Now there is a story about a fourteen-year-old boy who is accused of killing a four-year-old boy who lived next door to him. What is wrong with some of these teenagers today?

Just for the record, the girl in the video is the one accused of killing Elizabeth. Her myspace page is below. Since she is a minor and has not been named....I'll only post the link.

It's no wonder why we have so many child killers! They start out young because of what they have for parents. I firmly believe that once parents are charged with child neglect or abuse, they should lose custody of their children permanently. In addition, there should be a law that makes it mandatory for sterilization of all child abusers. It sure would put a stop to further abuse, and many deaths of innocent children. It would also put a STOP to women having lots of children for the purpose of using them as "meal tickets". I truly believe that many people have children so they can use them. Balloon boy's parents are a perfect example. Just look at how they're exploiting those poor little boys. What do you think they're going to be like when they grow up?
Sick and twisted teen, how horrific for little Elizabeth Olten to die at the age and means in which she died, and at the hands of another child.
