Pregnant N.J. Woman Vanishes Days Before Due Date

A pregnant New Jersey woman has disappeared days before she was expected to deliver her baby, her family told MyFoxNY.com

Aileen Vasquez, 27, tucked her children, ages 5 and 9, into bed at their Jersey City home Tuesday night and told her mother she was heading out to a store. She left her ID and purse at home, MyFoxNY.com reported.

Vasquez has not been seen since, police said.

I hope the police get some credible tips that help find her. It seems strange that she went to a store without her purse or ID, but I don't think she ran away or she probably would have taken those things with her.

Jersey City Police told Fox 5 News that they are looking for a person of interest in the case but would not elaborate. They have asked for assistance from the State Police.

I read this earlier and got a cold feeling. I hope she and the baby are ok.

This doesn't sound too good. (Parts of it seems eeriely similar to Laci Peterson.)

Family members of a missing a pregnant Jersey City woman say they are beside themselves with concern about her well-being.

Aileen Vasquez, 27, left home Tuesday night and hasn't been seen since, police said. After putting her children to bed, she told her mother she was going to the store to buy a soda. She didn't take an ID or her purse with her.

Her relatives are canvassing the neighborhood, speaking to people, and calling police in Puerto Rico, where they have friends and loved ones. Her longtime boyfriend, who is the father of the children, lives there. The family says she planned to visit him very soon.

Vasquez had already packed her bags in anticipation of her trip to the hospital to give birth. They remain at the front door of the house.

Vaquez's mother and her children, ages 5 and 9, are very worried and are asking anyone with any information to call police.

Vasquez lives on Marion Place. Jersey City Police told Fox 5 News that they are looking for a person of interest in the case but would not elaborate. They have asked for assistance from the State Police.

It's odd that she didn't take her purse with her. I wonder if she was going to meet someone for a moment and she just told her mother she was going out to buy a soda. It doesn't sound good, especially if they already have a person of interest. I hope they find her and the baby is ok.

JERSEY CITY (WABC) -- Authorities in northern New Jersey say a pregnant woman who disappeared just days before her due date actually left home voluntarily.

Lt. Edgar Martinez, a Jersey City police spokesman, said the agency has video proof that 27-year-old Aileen Cepeda Velasquez left the United States late last month and went to Puerto Rico.

However, she's still classified as a missing person because authorities haven't spoken with her. They're also trying to determine whether the Jersey City woman is, in fact, pregnant.

Velasquez - a native of Puerto Rico who is the mother of two young girls - has not been seen since Jan. 26, when she went to the store to buy a soda.

Her boyfriend, who is the father of the children, lives in Puerto Rico. Relatives say she planned to visit him soon, but declined further comment.
