High School Gets Threatening Letter About Abduction

Riverside-Brookfield High School received a threatening letter today indicating that a child in Brookfield might get kidnapped, authorities said.

The letter referenced "an incident" that occurred at the Brookfield Zoo in 2003 and demanded to know the name of the person responsible for it, or "a child from Brookfield might be kidnapped," said Brookfield Police Chief Steven Stelter.

He said the letter did not mention a specific child or time frame.

Stelter would not say what had happened at the zoo; he added that he didn't know why the author sent a letter about the zoo to the high school.

A spokeswoman from the zoo said she could not comment on the case because police are still investigating.

Police in Riverside and Brookfield are working together but have no suspects. Stelter asked that residents notify police of any suspicious activity, including strange vehicles, people lingering in cars for long periods, or anything out of the ordinary.
