GOLDSBORO, N.C. -- The trial for the man accused of murdering marine LCpl. Maria Lauterbach in 2007 is set to begin this week.

Pre-trial motions begin on Monday in the Cesar Laurean murder trial.

The trial has been a long time coming in this high-profile case.

Lauterbach first went missing back in 2007 when she was eight months pregnant.

I remember this one...Her remains were discovered in a firepit in his back yard.....As it turned out the baby was not his...She had complained of him sexually harrassing her...He was married but I wonder where his wife was when he did the deed???

Thanks for this update...I was curious as to whateva had happened to this case...

His wife is testifying...... she was military too.... they pretty much swooped her away and kept her out of sight. kh

Military investigators may have doubted a rape claim made by pregnant Marine Maria Lauterbach against a superior now facing charges for murder because the victim once made up a story about her brother's death at the hands of a relative, Lauterbach's mother said in an exclusive interview.

“When someone has an incident like that, it sets them up to be the perfect victim,” Mary Lauterbach told TODAY co-host Matt Lauer on Tuesday. “Here's a person where they have a credibility problem and it's a beautiful woman. If you had an inclination to be violent and attack women, who would you pick?”
