Wife Turns Husband In For 1993 Slaying

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A woman who's divorcing her husband has led police to charge him and a friend who now lives in Louisiana with the 1993 murder of a 15-year-old single mother who, police said, was raped by the man's friend before she was killed.

New Castle police said Shannon Marshall told them she went along in 1993 when her husband, Joseph Marshall Jr., 39, of Pulaski Township, dug up the body of Laura Thompson near Route 422 a few months after the killing.

Police said Marshall's wife also helped implicate the man who allegedly raped Thompson before she was killed, Sean McDonough, 38, who now lives in Thibodaux, La. He was arrested Sunday by Louisiana authorities.

McDonough allegedly attacked the girl, stabbed her to death, stripped her naked and then sexually assaulted her, according to a Lawrence County (Penn.) police affadavit.

Thompson was originally thought to have run away from her home in New Castle, Penn. But the high school student, who was supposed to meet friends to play cards, did not take any belongings or money with her, nor did she take her 9-month-old son, the affadavit said.

Authorities began to piece together the case after Shannon Marshall, the wife of suspect Joseph Marshall Jr., went to police last June with a tape recording detailing statements her husband made about a killing he was involved in, the affadavit said.

Wait.... this woman waits 17 years to turn in her husband? And she just happens to be divorcing him now? I'm not saying the husband didn't do it, but something doesn't smell right.

No kidding Snaz. IMO...she should be charged as well. (and her ex hubby to) 17 years???

hmmmmmmmmmmmm?? sounds fishy, however I dont think her accusation can be ignored...

If she can lead them to the remains, there shud be some evidence that can bak up her allegations..Makes me suspicious of she offered this info for her own self serving purposes maybe even legal troubles...

If there is nothing, (no remains) then I am of the belief that her word alone is just not enough..

There are too many circumstantial cases where finger pointing is enough to take away someones freedom...We saw it in the Barton case where he will rot in jail becasue a convicted incarcerated felon came out of the woodwork with a crazy story..(wonder what was in it for him?)

I am hoping the general public starts wanting more.. charges are laid way too easy and for nothing..once charges are filed seems many ppl have an instilled instinct to believe everything that LE believes..

Seems a jury of 12 ppl are too easily sold... way too many wrongful convictions..

Hopefully we will start seeing more media attention given to so many crazy convictions where the lucky are being exonerated... I suspect there are millions who have no means for retesting, or even someone who will listen...

She should be charged as an accomplice or for obstructing justice. Why the long wait? It doesn't make sense if she is totally innocent. She accuses her husband of the murder she says his friend committed.
