Haleigh Cummings case update: Skull found off boat ramp fake, not missing girl

Satsuma, Fla. - A skull found Monday afternoon just five miles from where law enforcement had once searched for missing girl Haleigh Cummings, turned out to be a plastic skull-shaped decoration.

Investigators were summoned to a boat ramp near Buchanan Circle in Satsuma, Fla. after reports a human skull had been found. The object was in about 4 inches of water and was determined to be a Halloween decoration rather than a human skull.

Haleigh was 5-years-old at the time she disappeared in February 2009. Her father, Ronald Cummings, was at work and Misty Croslin, his then-live-in girlfriend, babysat the little girl and her brother.

Croslin claims she woke up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night and discovered Haleigh was gone. Following that fateful night, Misty became the focus of the investigation in the case due to failing a polygraph test and reportedly giving inconsistent statements to law enforcement.

Ronald Cummings, Croslin and her brother, are each currently serving time for trafficking prescription drugs.

In April 2010, investigators spent three days just five miles from where the plastic skull was found searching for any evidence in Haleigh’s case, but turned up no new leads.

In the meantime, the search continues for Haleigh who has blond hair and brown eyes and is 3 feet tall. Anyone with information regarding Haleigh’s case is urged to call the Putnam County Sheriff's Office at 386-329-0800.

Skull found in St. Johns River turns out to be plastic replica

The mention of a skull, Satsuma and boat ramp in Putnam County immediately calls to mind Haleigh Cummings, the missing Satsuma girl whose body has not been found.

Last year, reports that Haleigh's body was dumped in the St. Johns River at a boat ramp between Satsuma and Welaka prompted a three-day search that failed to yield evidence of Haleigh.

Well, a skull was found in the St. Johns River last week, but it was not human, reported Putnam County Sheriff's Capt. Johnny Greenwood.

This poor child has been missing for two years. It's so sad that in such a small town, anyone can actually get away with taking a child, right from her bed...and never be found. We sure live is such a frightening world. Sad
