Naked Woman Does Not Recall Missing Child

May 21, 2011 04:35 AM EDT

A naked woman was discovered yesterday morning walking along the road in Humboldt County, CA. The woman turned out to be Claudia Pedreros, who was reported missing just hours earlier. However, Pedreros was reported missing with her 2-year-old daughter, who still hasn't been located as of tonight.

Claudia Pedreros is a Spanish-speaking resident of Humboldt County who is believed to suffer from extreme mental issues. Initially it was believed that she was under the influence of narcotics or another substance when she was discovered wandering aimlessly in the nude. Police noticed a trail of children's toys and other items strewn down the road, leading to her parked car which was empty.

I hope they find her alive and well. That's pretty scary about the mom.

UPDATED: Sheriff says mother confessed to drowning daughter in Trinity River

Ryan Sabalow  10:41 AM, May 23, 2011  6:19 PM, May 23, 2011

WEAVERVILLE — It was only after the body of her 2-1/2-year-old daughter was found tangled in submerged vegetation in the Trinity River that a McKinleyville woman allegedly confessed Saturday to wading into the current and drowning the girl.

...Haney said that though Pedrerors confessed to killing the child, she hasn't said why. Haney said he wasn't aware of any other allegations of abuse, but the woman does have a history of mental-health issues.

...Haney said Pedreros was suffering from small cuts and scrapes, so she was first taken to Trinity Hospital in Weaverville for care. There, blood and urine tests showed Pedreros didn't have narcotics in her system, Haney said.
