Attorney Files Motion For Casey's Deposition In Civil Suit
Updated: 6:44 am EDT July 14, 2011
ORLANDO, Fla. -- An emergency hearing has been scheduled for Friday morning after a motion was filed to require Casey Anthony to give a deposition in a civil suit brought by a woman who is suing her for defamation.
Casey goes free on Sunday, but it's taken almost no time for the lawsuits to start piling up against her.
The motion filed on Wednesday asked that Casey be required to attend a deposition on July 19 or sometime before Sunday's scheduled release from the Orange County jail. Casey was acquitted last week of murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Anthony. She was found guilty of four counts of lying to police, but with time served and good behavior credits, she won't serve out her four-year sentence.
WFTV caught up with attorney Cheney Mason on Wednesday.
"Where is Casey going," WFTV reporter Kathi Belich asked Mason.
"Free," he replied.
"Is she going to go to Puerto Rico?" Belich replied.
“Now listen I told you, I don't know where she's going, and if I did I wouldn't tell you,” said Mason.
The emergency hearing was scheduled for Friday morning, over concerns that Casey will skip town after she is released.
The motion arises from a suit brought by Zenaida Gonzalez in 2008. She alleges that she incurred public ridicule after Casey initially told investigators that a woman with the same name kidnapped Caylee.
"Either she will assert the Fifth Amendment privilege or she's just going to say 'I'm not talking to you about this at all,'" WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said. "And good luck with getting a money damage and then super good luck on collecting."
It doesn't appear Casey will be in court for the emergency hearing. It's scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday.

New judge coming in Casey Anthony civil case after short emergency hearing
July 15, 2011 9:14 AM
ORLANDO --
An emergency hearing Friday morning in the Casey Anthony civil case was over shortly after it started.
The hearing lasted just 20 minutes, mostly in sidebar. It ended with Judge Jose Rodriguez announcing that the court will assign a new judge to preside over the civil case brought on by Zenaida Gonzalez, the woman who said Casey ruined her life after claiming a nanny by the same name took her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, in 2008.

Update: Hearing already rescheduled for 3:30pm today with new judge.
Also on Friday, for unknown reasons, the judge recused himself from the civil lawsuit against Casey Anthony after an emergency hearing was held. Now, Circuit Judge Lisa Munyon, has been assigned to the Zenaida Gonzalez defamation lawsuit and a hearing will be held Friday at 3:30pm.

New judge in civil case pushes Casey Anthony deposition to October
Last Updated: Friday, July 15, 2011 4:00 PM
ORLANDO --
A new judge has taken over and taken charge in the civil case against Casey Anthony.
At an emergency hearing Friday, Circuit Judge Lisa Munyon denied a motion from Zenaida Gonzalez's attorneys to compel Casey to show up for a deposition scheduled for Tuesday.
Gonzalez is suing Casey for defamation. She claims Casey ruined her life when she told authorities a nanny by the same name took her daughter, Caylee, in 2008.
Friday's hearing was pushed back from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. following a motion to remove Judge Jose Rodriguez from the case.
After just 20 minutes in court Friday morning, spent mostly in sidebar, Rodriguez stepped down. The court then assigned Munyon to the civil case.
Casey Anthony's civil attorney, Charles Greene, would not say why he asked Judge Rodriguez to step down.
Shortly after court went to recess Friday morning, defense lawyers from Casey's criminal murder case filed a notice of appeal to review the four guilty verdicts she received for lying to law enforcement.
Once the appeal is filed, Casey would not be required to answer any questions in any deposition until the appeal is over.

Casey Anthony won't say much in deposition Saturday
She is expected to take the Fifth
By Anthony Colarossi, Orlando Sentinel

Casey Anthony is set to be deposed Saturday in the civil case involving Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez, but don't expect to hear her say much.
Anthony is expected to plead the Fifth — her constitutional right against self-incrimination — to many of the tough questions attorney John Morgan plans to ask during the special video-link question-and-answer session.
"We anticipate her to take the Fifth Amendment," said Matt Morgan, who is also working the defamation case brought against Anthony by Fernandez-Gonzalez. "But It's imperative that we ask those questions."
