ORLANDO, Fla. -- A familiar face from the Casey Anthony trial may run for office.
Several sources tell WESH 2 News that Jeff Ashton is considering a run for state attorney in the 2012 election against his former boss, Lawson Lamar.
Ashton made his decision to retire public shortly after Anthony was found not guilty of the most serious charges in connection to her daughter's death. She was found guilty of four counts of lying to law enforcement officers.

Ashton spoke to the Clay County Bar Association Law Day event Monday at the Country Club of Orange Park.
“We must take efforts to keep the media from trying to replace us as the ultimate determiner of facts because they are not very good at it. They have no rules. They have no hearsay rules of evidence (which lawyers are required to adhere to). Opinion is often mistaken for fact and, to me, is the great threat to the justice system as a whole,” said Ashton.

ORLANDO --
Jeff Ashton, the prosecutor best known for his work in the Casey Anthony trial, defeated his former boss, longtime state attorney Lawson Lamar, in the heated race for the head of the Orange-Osceola State Attorney's race.
Lamar and Ashton have both made headlines since the Casey Anthony case and have since become bitter rivals. We heard from both of them in an exclusive News 13 debate just last month.
Lamar said when he wakes up Wednesday, the state attorney's office will continue to work just as it had before. "I have been proud of my work done over eight terms," he told supporters at his party at Club Firestone in Orlando.
