Doctor defends his examination of John Wayne Gacy victim
BY FRANK MAIN Staff Reporter
October 13, 2011 6:52PM
An orthodontist who examined serial killer John Wayne Gacy’s victims is defending his identification of Michael Marino as one of them.
Edward Pavlik said X-rays of Marino’s mouth before he was killed show dental fillings that were identical to those in a body found in the crawl space of Gacy’s home in 1978. “I am a perfectionist,” Pavlik said. “I would never have signed off on this if it wasn’t correct.”
The identification of Marino as one of Gacy’s 33 victims was at the center of a court ruling last week. A judge allowed Marino’s mother, Sherry Marino, to exhume the body to conduct DNA tests. The exhumation has not taken place yet.

Cook County Sheriff Thomas Dart announced Wednesday that his office has obtained DNA profiles for all of the remaining victims of notorious serial killer John Wayne Gacy.
At a morning news conference, Dart asked that anyone with missing loved ones come forward to give DNA samples in hopes of matching names to the remaining eight Gacy victims. The period in question would be anyone who disappeared between 1972 and 1979.

Re: Decades after murders, new twists in Gacy case
That was an interesting video Julie. I was surprised to hear that Gacy has possibly been linked to 27 unsolved cases around the country after authorities went through the evidence room and found plane tickets to 10 different states from the time period he was committing his crimes. They were trying to bring closure to the families of the eight unidentified victims and now be able to bring closure to many more families.

J4A, that was a very surprising twist. I wouldn't be surprised if he was responsible for some of the 27 other unsolved cases. It's sad that those plane tickets sat in the evidence room all this time.

Gacy Victims Exhumed: Sheriff Says There Are Solid Leads In Effort To ID Victims (PHOTOS, VIDEO)
By DON BABWIN 10/17/11 05:57 PM ET
CHICAGO -- A sheriff whose office exhumed the skeletal remains of eight of serial killer John Wayne Gacy's never-identified victims said Monday that dozens of families of men who disappeared during the 1970s have come forward for DNA testing.
Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said about 70 families contacted the department through its website or by calling detectives since last week's announcement that the remains had been exhumed. He said the descriptions of their loved ones – young white males who lived or worked in the Chicago area – could have put them in the path of Gacy, who killed at least 33 young men between 1972 and his arrest in late 1978.
Two Chicago-area families had by Monday afternoon provided DNA samples to compare to the skeletal remains, and another family was set to be tested. DNA swab kits also had been mailed to Minnesota and Iowa authorities to test a family in each of those states.

DNA test shows construction worker was Gacy victim
By SOPHIA TAREEN | AP – 3 hrs ago
CHICAGO (AP) — After her older brother disappeared in 1976, Laura O'Leary suspected that the 19-year-old construction worker had probably died at the hands of John Wayne Gacy. But the family was never able to prove it.
They got little help from authorities. And they couldn't locate any dental records to compare with the skeletal remains found beneath the serial killer's house.
So O'Leary waited, clinging for more than 30 years to a few items that once belonged to William George Bundy — a bracelet she'd given him for his 18th birthday, a high school photo ID and an autographed school book.
O'Leary's worst suspicions were confirmed Tuesday, when authorities announced that Bundy was one of the eight unidentified young men found under Gacy's home.
"Today's terribly sad, but it is also a day that provides closure," O'Leary said. "We have been waiting for a long time for closure."

Thanks for the article PI. I'm sorry that William's family got the news they really didn't want, but at least now they know. 35 years is a long time to wait for an answer.

A Quarter of John Wayne Gacy's Victims Are Still Unidentified, But This Cold Case Investigator is Bringing Them Justice
by Karly Rayner ⋅ Posted on February 3rd, 2015 at 6:23am
The bloody acts of killer clown John Wayne Gacy have well and truly seeped into the public consciousness, but the infamous Chicago-based murderer's crimes are far from being solved.
Shockingly, about a quarter of Gacy's 34 victims are yet to be identified, but a cold case officer named Jason Moran is hell bent on bringing them justice.

Send Your Tips To Dave Savini
February 10, 2015 10:18 PM
(CBS) — There are new questions being raised about serial killer John Wayne Gacy and his infamous clown suits. They were seized by police as evidence after Gacy was arrested for murdering 33 young men and boys. CBS 2’s Dave Savini, in this Original Report, uncovered evidence those clown suits ended up on the market.
...Even though they were collected as evidence and inventoried in his case, Gacy’s clown suits, the red one and his other one, ended up at the National Crime Museum in Washington DC. But, how did they get there?

John Doe No. 89: 36-year-old mystery solved thanks to John Wayne Gacy
POSTED 7:15 AM, SEPTEMBER 24, 2015, BY CNNWIRE
"....Wertheimer, his maternal half-sister, reached out to the Sheriff’s Office and submitted DNA thinking that Drath — as a young white male from Chicago’s North Side — fit the profile of Gacy’s other victims.
Investigators weren’t able to link her to any of Gacy’s known victims, but her information was uploaded to a federal DNA database. DNA from Darth’s tissue samples was uploaded in late 2014, though it wasn’t until May 2015 that this was matched with Wertheimer. Dental records and a tattoo with the name “Andy” confirmed the connection.
Wertheimer learned of the link on September 10, and San Francisco police are now trying to find the killer — not of John Doe No. 89 but of Andre “Andy” Drath....."
