Diane Schuler Was Drunk and High at the Time of the Crash That Killed 8
By William M. Welch, USA TODAY
At the Catskills campground she has owned for 32 years, Ann Scott knows the Diane and Daniel Schuler family as seasonal regulars, guests who return so frequently they rent a campsite for the entire year and leave their trailer in place.
That familiarity makes the tragedy of Diane Schuler's deadly wrong-way ride down the Taconic State Parkway all the more shocking around Hunter Lake Campground, a quiet, woodsy retreat at Parksville, N.Y. It's a place where visitors are warned that drunkenness and drugs are cause for eviction, and even radios must be shut off at 11 p.m.
"We kind of run a tight shop, just a clean family place," says Scott, 76. "We're dumbfounded."
The circumstances leading up to the July 26 crash still raise questions, even as revelations emerge.
New York State Police called the crash inexplicable until tests from Diane Schuler's autopsy were released. She was drunk and high on marijuana, New York State Police Maj. William Carey said, and a broken 1.75-liter bottle of Absolut vodka was discovered in the wreckage.

Daniel Schuler's attorney claims she didn't drink and that she could have suffered a stroke or embolism. These attorneys will try to spin anything. How do you explain the high level of marijuana, the broken 1.75-liter bottle of Absolut vodka, and her blood-alcohol content of 0.19%, which is more than twice the legal limit?

This makes me wonder what the husband is afraid of. If he would have kept his mouth shut, most people would have felt sorry for him, as he did lose his wife & children in the crash. But instead, he's chosen to defend her. IMO, that really pisses people off.

I have a major problem with all the "excuses" this man is giving for his wife's actions. Each excuse is just more ridiculous than the one before it. His complete lack of concern for the other victims in this case speaks volumes, in my opinion. I don't know who's the bigger ASS, the husband or his attorney. At any rate, they both need to shut their pie holes!

Book, you couldn't be more right! Something just isn't right about him speaking out. IMO, They (hubby & lawyer) both are shady & covering up for something. They can say it's not true until the cows come home but "the proof is in the puddin'" as they say, lol.

Hi, Fysty! The husband originally told police that his wife was a "social" drinker, and that she occasionally smoked pot. Those were his words. I'll bet he wishes that he hadn't said them now.FystyAngel wrote:Book, you couldn't be more right! Something just isn't right about him speaking out.
