Celebrity forensic scientist who worked on the trials of O.J. Simpson, Phil Spector and Michael Peterson, and helped investigate JonBenet Ramsey's murder is accused of botching evidence in multiple murder cases
A celebrity forensic scientist who worked on the trials of O.J. Simpson, Phil Spector and Michael Peterson and helped investigate the murder of JonBenét Ramsey has been accused of botching evidence in multiple murder cases.
Dr Henry Lee - now 82 - has played a major role in a number of high-profile cases, testifying in some of the most infamous murder cases in American history.
But his evidence is now being called into question after the conviction of two homeless men for the murder of 65-year-old father Everett Carr in 1989 was overturned last week.
Ralph 'Ricky' Birch and Shawn Henning were convicted based in part on false testimony about blood stains on a towel by Lee that later were proven not to be blood, The Connecticut Supreme Court found.
Dr Lee, who appeared on Netflix documentary The Staircase, had also testified that the killers may been able to flee the scene without getting any blood on their clothing, The Daily Beast reports.
Prosecutors used his evidence to support the theory the boys used the towel to clean themselves up after a 'burglary gone bad'.
...
Dr Lee is said to have hidden or destroyed a white object, thought to be an acrylic fingernail in the Spector case, a judge ruled in 2007. Spector was convicted of actress Lana Clarkson's second-degree murder. The state said the nail was key as it ruled out the suicide defense by proving her hand couldn’t have been on the gun when she died.
