BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) — Seven people were found slain and two critically injured Saturday at a mobile home located on a historic plantation in southeastern Georgia, police said.

Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering called it the worst mass slaying in his 25 years of police work in this coastal Georgia county. He wouldn't say how the victims died and released few other details.

"This is a record for us. We've never had such an incident with so many victims," Doering told reporters. "It's not a scene that I would want anybody to see."

Doering said police were working on leads to identify a suspect but that no arrests had been made Saturday afternoon. He said a family member called 911 at about 8 a.m. Saturday.

The two injured victims were taken to a Savannah hospital 60 miles away and were in critical condition, Doering said.

So far authorities have not released the names or ages of the victims. They have arrested 22-year-old Guy Heinze Jr. on drug-related charges. Heinze Jr. claims to be a family member and he is the man who discovered the bodies and made the 911 call. So far, police have not named him as a suspect.

One of the articles I read yesterday said they were not releasing the names nor ages, but said the ages range from very young to very old.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – An eighth person has died in an attack on a Georgia mobile home, police said Sunday.

J4a, I just heard on the tv that an arrest has been made, but will give details on the 11pm news. Maybe you can find something regarding this on the internet.

I checked here locally, but didn't find anything yet.

I'm sorry, they only said they have arrested the guy who reported the killings. He has drug charges, lying to the police and tampering with evidence. They have not charged him with the murders yet, but they are questioning him about them. Another victim has died, so there is only 1 still living, and in critical condition.

They arrested Guy Heinze Jr. on drug charges, but they won't say whether he is a suspect at this time.

Police identify victims in Ga mobile home slayings

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — Police on Tuesday identified the eight people killed over the weekend in a mobile home in this coastal Georgia city.

Glynn County police in a statement identified the dead as: 44-year-old Russell D. Toler Sr.; 29-year-old Russell D. Toler Jr.; 22-year-old Chrissy Toler; 15-year-old Michelle Toler; 19-year-old Michael Toler; 40-year-old Brenda Gail Falagan; 46-year-old Guy Heinze Sr.; and 31-year-old Joseph West.

Police did not explain the relationship between the victims.

The victims were described as family by Guy Heinze Jr. in a frantic 911 call shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday reporting the killings. Police later arrested Heinze on drug and other charges, including lying to police. His first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.

Police said the ninth victim, whose identity has not been released, remains in critical condition.

Michael Toler had been previously identified by police. He survived the initial attack but died later at a hospital.

Autopsies on the eight victims were completed Monday but police did not release the cause of death for any of the victims.

Police have been tight-lipped about the investigation but have said they have not arrested any suspects.

Police had scheduled a news conference for 3 p.m. Tuesday, where they had planned to release the identities of the victims. That news conference was called off when the names were released in a statement Tuesday morning.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — Eight people slain in a coastal Georgia mobile home over the weekend were members of an extended family, police and relatives said Tuesday.

Police released the names and ages of the dead three days after the carnage was reported in a frantic phone call to emergency police dispatchers by a relative who returned from a night out and found the bodies. No suspect has been named, and autopsy results have not been released.

The dead included Russell D. Toler Sr., 44, and his four children: Chrissy Toler, 22; Russell D. Toler Jr., 20; Michael Toler, 19, and Michelle Toler, 15.

Guy Heinze Sr., 45, was also among the victims. His son, Guy Heinze Jr., told a police dispatcher he had found his father, his uncle and several cousins apparently beaten to death.

Also killed were Brenda Gail Falagan, 49, and Joseph L. West, 30. Falagan was identified by a funeral home as Toler Sr.’s sister. West’s connection to the family was not known.

The sole survivor, whose name has not been released, remains in critical condition.

Kathy Clock, administrative assistant to Joseph Iannicelli, who owns the New Hope Plantation mobile home park, said not all nine of the victims lived in Toler Sr.’s small trailer, but all stayed there at times. They were planning to move because they needed more space.

People who knew Toler Sr., who went by the name Rusty, said he loved his children.

"Rusty took care of family," Clock said. "If you needed a place to sleep, there was a place to sleep."

Toler Sr. worked part-time doing maintenance and odd jobs at the mobile home park and at a plant down the street that dries chemicals and other substances, said Iannicelli, who owns both.

"He had worked for the company for more than 20 years, and he will be sorely missed," Iannicelli said.

Police have released little information about the case that has rocked this port city between Savannah and Jacksonville, Fla., saying they don’t want to jeopardize their investigation.

A recording of the 12-minute phone call by Heinze Jr., 22, has provided some of the only details about the crime.

He screamed, "My whole family’s dead!" and struggled to describe what he saw, at one point returning to the mobile home to find his cousin Michael, whom he said had Down syndrome, barely breathing.

"Michael’s alive, tell them to hurry!" Heinze Jr. yelled in the background as a maintenance man at the mobile home park spoke with a dispatcher. "He’s beat up! His face is smashed in!"

Michael Toler died Sunday at a Savannah hospital.

Several hours after Heinze Jr. spoke with the dispatcher, police arrested him on charges of drug possession, tampering with evidence and lying to a police officer.

Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering said he isn’t calling Heinze Jr. a suspect in the killings but isn’t ruling him out. Heinze Jr.’s attorney, Ron Harrison, said Tuesday that his client denies any involvement in the slayings.

It’s what good country folk do, says the manager of the park where Toler, his four children, two siblings and his daughter’s boyfriend were found slain. Ten people lived in the single-wide, 980-square-foot trailer in coastal Georgia that cost Rusty Toler Sr. $405 a month.

Police have no suspects and have not said how the family died.

“They were very good people,” said Laura Davis, an aunt to Toler’s children. “They struggled but they had what they needed. They had a roof over their heads and clothes on their backs.”

Police released the names and ages of the dead Tuesday, three days after the carnage was reported in a frantic 911 call by a relative who said he had returned from a night out and found his whole family dead.

“It’s just a shock,” said Gail Montgomery, who manages the New Hope Plantation mobile home park where Toler and his family lived. “They were just what I’d call good country folks. I don’t think any of them would hurt a fly.”

The victims included 44-year-old Toler and his four children: Chrissy Toler, 22; Russell D. Toler Jr., 20; Michael Toler, 19; and Michelle Toler, 15.

Montgomery said the elder Toler had taken in his brother, a nephew, his daughter and her boyfriend because they had lost jobs and couldn’t find work. Montgomery said his daughter’s young child also lived with them and was the lone survivor.

Toler Sr. had worked for 20 years at plant that dries chemicals and food products located behind the mobile home park, but was laid off several months ago, said Kathy Clock, administrative assistant to the owner of the plant and New Hope Plantation.

Montgomery said Toler Sr. also did odd jobs for her, including groundskeeping and hauling trailers.

But he had too many family members living in the small mobile home and was told more than two months ago they would have to move.

“He had a big heart,” Montgomery said. “And you just don’t tell your family no.”

Toler Sr. received notice of eviction proceedings Aug. 13 and was to have been in court with the landlord Monday, two days after he was killed. But Montgomery said they had already come to an agreement — the family had found a new place and promised to move out by Sept. 8.

“Rusty took care of family,” Clock said. “If you needed a place to sleep, there was a place to sleep.”

Davis, the children’s aunt, said she had never known the family to have enemies, especially anyone who would want to kill them.

“I don’t think somebody did this because they’re mad at them,” Davis said. “I think this is just a senseless murder.”

“The only comfort I can draw from this is that Rusty did the best he could for his children,” Davis said. “And he’s in heaven now with his children.”

(Brunswick, GA ) 22 year old Guy Heinze, Jr., whose frantic voice on a 9-1-1 tape says “they’re all dead, my dad, my uncle, my cousins,“ appeared in court this morning in Brunswick. Heinze, Jr., told authorities he had returned home to the New Hope Plantation Mobile Home Park early Saturday (located near Darien) to find his entire family had been murdered. Eight of the nine victims have died in what’s being called a “mass murder” in Glynn County. The ninth victim, a small child, still clings to life at Memorial Health in Savannah.

Heinze, Jr. was taken into custody Saturday morning on charges that include drug possession, obstruction and tampering with evidence. He appeared in court this morning and has been given a $20,000 bond, with special conditions that include house arrest other than for work. He’s also been ordered to wear an ankle monitor.

The amount of bond was agreed upon by defense attorneys, prosecutors and police detectives investigating the case. There’s no word yet on whether Heinze, Jr., will actually be able to make bond or whether anyone he knows will be putting up the bail for him.

Glynn County police have not said that Heinze, Jr., is a suspect in the killings. They continue to seek help from the public and remind the public there is a $25,000 reward for information.

Guy Heinze Jr...........arrested for 8 murders. That does not surprise me. They are not releasing the new evidence. A spokesman last night stated they had two pieces of evidence that brought the arrest.

Yeah, your whole family is dead, Guy - you killed them. It's interesting how he kept saying in the 911 tapes that they looked as if they'd been beat to death, yet other reports stated gunshot wounds. I can't imagine others in the trailer park not hearing one shot, let alone enough to kill 8 people. I hope the 3 year old survives.

Was it ever officially announced how the victims were killed? If they were killed by gunshots you would think somebody in the trailer park would have heard them. I also don't see how one 22-year-old guy could overpower five grown men and beat them to death. It seems like Guy would have needed a gun or multiple accomplices to kill that many people.
