I am sure this is exactly why Josh and his father wanted them to have NO CONTACT with their other family. I now believe that Steve Powell is involved in Susan's death/disappearance. In fact, I am suspicious that he may have actually murdered her and sent Josh away with the children on that ridiculous midnite camping trip in a blizzard (the one that Josh forgot to come back from and be at work the next day because he "got mixed up about what day it was) so that he could either do the deed or try to clean up the scene.

As I said before, this case is very disturbing on so many levels!

Yes, just as Caylee had to be "eliminated" because she was getting to the age where she could talk. Children have no filter and will say whatever is on their mind.

The two Powell boys are at that age where they are aware of and know a lot more than people think they do, and it must be making Josh and his pervy dad nervous as hell that they might say something. No wonder he fought so hard to keep custody of them (and their mouths).

Susan's friend, Kiirsi, said there was alot of things that hadn't been made public due to the investigation. Can it get any more disgusting, though? I can't believe that LE let it slide about what Steven's friend, Ms. Anderson, told them. They even lost her information until June or July of this year they decided to ask her about it again. I'm sure it was Steven's mouth that turned on that light bulb with LE. Had they heeded what she said those boys would have been removed from that house alot sooner, imo.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Family and friends of Susan Cox Powell are relieved the Powell boys can not return to Josh or the home where child pornography was allegedly confiscated.

"It's amazing if it's really true. They're going to stay with the Cox's for awhile. I'm really glad because I've been extremely worried for the past two years. They are not in a safe environment at all," said Kiirsi Hellewell minutes after a judge ruled the boys to stay away from Josh.

"That's very good news to me. I think that obviously he is not a very fit father letting him be in the house with Steve," said Tami Allen who attended church with Susan.

Susan Powell case is at a "tipping point"


SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – West Valley City has spent more than $500 thousand dollars on the Susan Powell case, but Mayor Mike Winder says it’s paying off. "We feel that we are getting to that tipping point where we have more hot evidence than we have had in the past two years."

Mayor Mike Winder says that includes trailers full of evidence from both the Powell residence in Washington and the most resent search of the Topaz mountain area. "We have bones, we have charred clothing, we have charred wood, with what the cadaver dogs are excited about, and that we are doing DNA analysis on."

West Valley police chief opens up about Susan Powell investigation

In a sit down interview with Nielsen in his office Tuesday, the chief used phrases like being "in the fourth quarter" and the "tipping point" when describing where the investigation into Susan's disappearance is now at.

West Valley City putting full resources into ‘red hot' Powell investigation


According to Mayor Mike Winder, police have spent a lot of time and resources on this case — much of it behind the scenes — and he says the evidence is mounting.

"The case is red hot, and we will find out what happened to Susan Powell," Winder said in an interview with KSL News Wednesday.

Despite public scrutiny, the confident mayor says it's only a matter of time before West Valley City Police solve the 2-year-old mystery.

"We're getting really close to cracking this case and going public," he said.

Winder says what's been made public so far doesn't tell the entire story. Real evidence, he says, led to the searches in Ely, Nev., and Topaz Mountain. Those efforts, although seemingly futile, were just a small part of a bigger investigation.

WVC Police chief says Susan Powell search nearing resolution

Chief Nielsen says his detectives have only scratched the surface of the evidence they seized from the Washington home of Steven Powell and that confirmed for him and the courts that Josh’s two boys were not safe staying there.

In regards to Steve Powell, the chief feels strongly that once all that evidence is analyzed he could be facing even more charges and his department will finally learn what really happened to Susan Cox Powell.

Who's looking out for Susan Powell's kids?

When a Pierce County judge ruled this week that missing Puyallup mom Susan Cox Powell's 4 and 6-year-old sons should live with Susan's parents instead of her husband Josh, she did it based on the advice of a child advocate known as a guardian ad litem or court appointed special advocate (CASA).

In difficult situations like this, the CASA looking out for the Powell boys is sometimes a volunteer, because there isn't enough money, or professionals, to go around.

"So the child really has one specific person who is advocating for them, specifically they act as the eyes and the ears of the judge," says Barbara James, Executive Director of Washington State CASA.

James says cases like the Powell's are far more common than people want to believe. From sexual to drug abuse, many children often suffer serious damage, though they're often too young to realize it.

TACOMA, WASH. ‑ It has been almost two years since the children of Josh and Susan Powell have seen their mom. From the boys' perspective, it has been a confusing and anxious time.

Last week in Washington state, the children were placed in foster care after their grandfather's home — where they were living along with their father — was arrested on charges of voyeurism and possession of child pornography. Then just two days ago, they were reunited with their maternal grandparents, whom they had not seen for quite some time.

To say the least, the two little boys have been on a roller coaster emotional journey. However, one bit of consistency they have had while in Washington is Pierce County Sheriff Det. Sgt. Teresa Berg.

Since registering here I have spent the last few days reading all the links and posts here about this case. I truly don't believe that Susan just walked off into the night, I mean what average mother and wife can just vanish into thin air. The last person who supposedly did that was Zanny the Nanny and we all know how that turned out.

Does anyone know if Susan's FIL had an alibi for the night of her disappearance? IMO Susan is dead and either father or son killed her. Thankfully her boys are now in a safe environment and based on the latest reports it seems that Josh's days of freedom are soon coming to an end.

Statement from Chuck Cox's sister released in custody case

PUYALLUP, Wash. —Susan Powell's two sons were very upset when they were told during a visit at the home of Chuck Cox last year that it was time to go.

"He didn't want to let go of my arm. I had to physically pick him up and set him on the couch," Susan's aunt Pam Cox said in a statement filed in court.

The information was revealed in new documents from last week's shelter care dependency hearing involving the children of Susan Cox Powell that have been made public.

In a statement presented to the court that was just recently made public, Pam Cox recalled an incident in March 2010 when she was at the Cox house where the two boys were visiting.

While looking at a book with the boys, there was a picture of a woman in a swimsuit who was swimming, according to court documents. One of the boys pointed to the woman's chest and said, "Mommy and (owie)."

The incident was also told to the judge by the Coxes' attorney in court during the dependency hearing.

When it was time to leave the Cox home, the boy, still sitting on Pam Cox's lap, clutched her arm "really tight and started to cry," she said in her statement.

When the other boy, who had been making crafts on the kitchen table heard they were leaving, "he started scrabbling out very aggressively the pictures he made us. He then proceeded to rip them up into little pieces and cry," according to Cox's statement in court documents.

WEST VALLEY CITY — The mother of Josh Powell has broken her silence and says her son is a "loving and very engaged father in the care of his sons."

Terri Powell, 56, lives in Utah but has repeatedly turned down interview requests from the media. Family members say she wants to keep a very low profile, and has gone out of her way to avoid reporters during the ongoing investigations into her ex-husband, Steven Powell, and the disappearance of Susan Cox Powell, Josh's wife.

But in court documents regarding the recent shelter hearing for Josh and Susan Powell's two sons, Terri Powell wrote a letter to the court on behalf of her son.

Terri Powell said most of her contact with her grandsons since Josh moved back to Puyallup, Wash., has been by phone.

"I have talked with the boys themselves. They've sounded like normal, happy children, excited to tell me whatever their current interest or project is," she wrote in court documents.

The most frustrating thing with these types of cases is that Susan is very likely dead, but looking for her remains is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

I'm just so thankful that the world now knows what a pervert her FIL is as he was really shouting the odds and was far too eager to ruin her reputation. I also have to wonder why he was so keen to do that.

The father-in-law of missing West Valley City mother Susan Powell has hired a private attorney to represent him in the voyeurism and pornography case against him.

Documents filed in Pierce County Superior Court in Tacoma, Wash. show Steve Powell has hired Tacoma attorney Mark T. Quigley to represent him. He was scheduled to appear in court for a Tuesday morning status hearing in the case.

Steve Powell, 61, is charged with 14 counts of voyeurism and one count of possessing an image of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Steven Powell voyeurism jury trial set for Nov. 16

SEATTLE — A Nov. 16 jury trial has been scheduled for the father-in-law of Susan Cox Powell, the West Valley mother who has been missing for nearly two years.

Steven Powell is facing charges of possession of child pornography and 14 counts of voyeurism. He was arrested Sept. 22 after police say they found photos of young neighbor children in their own bathroom that Powell had allegedly taken with a telephoto lens without their knowledge.

Meanwhile, a restraining order previously filed against Chuck Cox by Josh Powell has been amended.

Dozens of friends and family celebrated the birthday of Susan Cox Powell in a bitter sweet ceremony with West Valley City Mayor Jim Winder in attendance.

"Today was about remembering Susan. She was such a fun person. She loves birthdays, she loves celebrations, she loves doing things for other people. So we really wanted to remember her, just let go of balloons in her favorite color into the sky and it feels like a more hopeful occasion,” said Susan’s best friend Kiirsi Hellewell.

A Washington state custody hearing for the children of missing West Valley City mother Susan Powell has been postponed until January.

A Pierce County Superior Court judge on Tuesday was supposed to hear an update in the custody case involving the children, ages 6 and 4. A judge last month granted temporary custody of the boys to Susan Powell’s parents, Chuck and Judy Cox, after Washington child-protection workers removed them from the care of their father, Joshua Powell.

For Susan Powell’s sons, a missing mom and an uncertain future

As Utah authorities work to solve the mysterious disappearance of Susan Cox Powell, Washington officials are focused on another unresolved problem: what’s best for her two young sons.

For now, Charlie, 6, and Braden, 4, are living with Chuck and Judy Cox, their maternal grandparents, in Puyallup, Wash. But where they will live permanently depends on the outcome of two court cases.

A Jan. 19 review hearing is set in the child welfare action brought by the state’s Division of Children and Family Services. A judge will then review how the boys are doing; what progress their father, Josh Powell, has made in addressing safety concerns; and whether any new services are needed.

West Valley City police this year conducted public searches for any sign of the body of Susan Cox Powell, using cadaver dogs to search the vast desert around Topaz Mountain and propelling down into scores of mine shafts near Ely, Nev.

They also executed a search warrant on the Puyallup, Wash., home of the father of Josh Powell, the missing woman’s husband and the only person police have identified as a person of interest in the disappearance.

Finding any remains would end the nearly two-year mystery of Powell’s disappearance, giving her family answers and providing something else: evidence. But in the absence of discovering a body, bringing any criminal case in connection with Powell’s disappearance is a lot tougher.

WEST VALLEY CITY — Tuesday marks two years since the last time since Susan Cox Powell was seen.

"I never thought we would get to this point and not be done when we began this whole process," said Jennifer Graves, the sister of Susan's husband, Josh Powell.

Kiirsi Hellewell, a friend who lived near the Powells in West Valley City, sent out a message on her Twitter account Tuesday: "Rough week emotionally. Today is December 6: 2 years ago this noon I walked home from church with Susan. How I wish I'd known."

On Dec. 6, 2009, Josh Powell said he took his two young sons on a late night camping trip on a cold night in Tooele County. When he returned the next day, his wife was gone.

Results are in on charred wood found during Susan Powell search

West Valley City police on Tuesday said a laboratory has finished examining suspicious charred wood found during a desert search for Susan Cox Powell, but the department would not say whether the wood bears a connection to the missing woman.

"Those results have come back," said Sgt. Mike Powell, who is no relation to Susan Powell. "However, we are not able to discuss the specifics of those results at this point."

"In a general statement, I can definitely tell you that the investigation is progressing forward," Mike Powell added.

It is probably wishful thinking, but I hope that that the decision not to release the results of the charred wood along with Sgt. Powell's statement about the investigation progressing forward means that an arrest isn't too far off in this case.

Josh Powell claims sons’ grandparents turning them against him

Josh Powell has asked a judge to move his sons to a neutral caretaker, claiming in newly filed court documents that his missing wife’s parents are turning their two sons against him and have even encouraged the boys to call him "Josh" rather than "Daddy."

He also objected to medical and counseling information the Coxes shared in their court bid to get permanent custody of the boys, describing the move as an attempt to "weaponize my children" in ways that were harmful. Powell also says the release of the information is an invasion of their privacy.

In the court papers filed Monday in Washington, Powell represents himself. Powell is the husband of missing West Valley City woman Susan Powell and was reportedly the last person to see the mother of his two sons alive. He has also been the only person of interest police have named in her disappearance two years ago this week.

His boys know he is their Daddy..I think they also know something that he is afraid they will remember and let slip...They have been through enough...I hope this latest attempt to exclude Susan's family will not be successful...The boys need stability and moving them hither and yon isn't going to help matters any...
