Accused NW Indiana shooter to be freed, alibi checks out
Submitted by Bryan Alaspa on 2010-10-13
Brian Dorian, the former Lynwood police officer who had been arrested as the “Honey Bee Killer” is expected to go free according to lawyers and the Will County Prosecutor’s office. The report, on the same day Dorian appeared for the first time in court, means that the man accused of shooting three people, killing one, is still on the loose. According to Dorian’s attorney, police were able to verify his alibi.
Dorian’s attorney, Bob Odekirk, spoke with a local newspaper about the recent developments. He stated that the police were able to determine that Dorian was using his computer at 11 a.m. the day of the shooting, as he had told police. This means he would have been at home and online instead of where the shootings took place.
Press conference coming

Botched, Stalled Cases Hurting Will County's Credibility?

The release of a Lynwood police officer, who had been accused of killing one man and injuring two others in a two-state shooting spree, is another blow to a law enforcement agency that's suffered a number setbacks in high-profile cases.
The Will County State's attorney on Wednesday formally dropped charges against Brian Dorian, who they'd accused of being the so-called Honey Bee Killer.
Other botched or stalled cases include the recent dismissal of felony weapons charges against Drew Peterson, who is awaiting trial on charges he killed his third wife, Kathleen Savio. Her March 2004 death was initially ruled accidental but was later determined to be a homicide. Peterson's fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, went missing in October 2007.

Brian Dorian's release from jail Wednesday afternoon left the residents of Lowell, Ind., (population 8500) with frayed nerves.
His release means a potentially unstable killer is still on the loose. Before his arrest locals were reportedly locking their doors and loading their guns because of they feared the strange "Honey Bee Killer" was lurking.
"But you can't live your life in fear, just because something like this happened," said Jackie Hansen of nearby Crown Point.
Some residents said they weren't surprised by the dramatic turn of events, pointing out differences in the police sketch provided during the manhunt and Dorian's subsequent mug shot.

"Our detectives and the detectives in the Will County sheriff's office and Orland Park investigative units have been in contact to investigate the shooting that occurred in Orland, to see if there's a connection between that and (the shootings) in Beecher and here in Lowell," Dominguez said.
