I just ran across this article from May, 2011. Had to post yet another horror story of what some parents do to their children. What is wrong with the world today?

A young girl was found caged and attempting to eat herself in a mobile home in Virginia, and cops say her parents are responsible.

The malnourished girl, believed to be either 5 or 6, was discovered in a crib that was converted into a makeshift cage after police arrived at the home in Gloucester County to investigate a burglary last week.

The girl's parents, Brian and Shannon Gore, were arrested and charged with felony child abuse. The mother was also charged with attempted capital murder.

However, the gruesome twosome now faces first-degree murder charges after the remains of what authorities believe to be another child were found buried outside their mobile home.

"I've done this for 20 years, and I've never seen anything like this in my life," Gloucester Sheriff's Maj. Darrell Warren said.

Brian and Shannon Gore charged with murder, child's body found buried in backyard, say Va. cops

(CBS/AP) GLOUCESTER, Va. - A Gloucester County couple faces first-degree murder charges after the remains of a child were found on their property.

The Daily Press reports murder charges were filed against 29-year-old Brian Gore and 25-year-old Shannon Gore in Gloucester Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

The couple also faces other charges filed earlier.

Deputies serving a search warrant stemming from a burglary investigation on Thursday say they a malnourished young girl in a makeshift cage. The girl and a month-old boy who was found unharmed were turned over to the county Department of Social Services.

The next day, deputies discovered a child's remains while digging around a shed at the residence. An autopsy report by the state medical examiner is pending.

UPDATE: Police originally went to the home of Shannon and Brian Gore searching for stolen gold bouillon. That's when they found the girl in the cage. She'd been there since last summer, and her growth was so stunted she could barely walk.

Deputies had been summoned to the trailer home of Shannon and Brian Gore on a robbery call. But when they entered the Gloucester County, Virginia house, they encountered something much worse than theft. They found a girl whose crib had been converted into a cage.

The Gores had placed a board over the top so she couldn't get out. The child was naked and covered in her own feces.

At first, police thought the child was only about 2-years-old, she was so small and thin. But they later discovered she was about 5 or 6, and that the Gores were systematically starving her to death.

She's been taken to a hospital, where she's now listed in stable condition. Doctors say if police had found her just a week later, she'd likely be dead.

Another one-month old baby was also found in the home, and appears to be in good health. But police also learned that the Gores had yet another child that couldn't be accounted for. So they spent a day searching the property.

On Friday night, they found the body of another kid buried underneath their shed. Detectives still haven't determined how old the child was, how she died or when she was buried.

Shannon and Brian Gore are accused of killing one child and starving another to near death.

"As mothers we blame ourselves for everything, so if someone wants to hide something from you they can do it. Obviously I've learned that lesson," said Karen, who didn't want to use her last name.

Possible evidence in child abuse case found in woman's bra

A woman accused of confining her daughter in a crib has been caught with a memory card in her underwear at the City Jail.

Deputies searched Shannon Gore and found a 1-gigabyte memory card hidden in her bra, according to a search warrant filed last week. Police believe the card, typically used in cellphones, may contain criminal evidence, including pictures, videos or text files, according to the warrant.

Gore has been held in the Norfolk jail since May. Sheriff deputies in Gloucester discovered her daughter in April trapped in a crib. The girl, described by police as about 6 years old, was found covered in feces inside a crib with a board over it, according to court records. She was also severely malnourished, records state. Deputies later found the remains of another child buried outside near the Gores' home.

'Caged girl' case postponed for months

Those interested in hearing testimony about how a girl came to be caged and emaciated in a Gloucester mobile home will have to wait several more months.

The initial court appearance of Brian and Shannon Gore has been postponed until Dec. 13 to give prosecutors and defense attorneys more time to prepare for the case, according to court records.

The pair were scheduled to make their first court appearance on several felony charges Tuesday in Gloucester Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, but attorneys secured the postponement last week.

The December court appearance should lead to the transmission of charges to a grand jury, which will decide whether the couple should be tried for murder in circuit court.
