Family and friends set up a memorial to remember an East Texas family that was murdered last year.

Bowie County investigators say Friday marks the tragic anniversary of the murders of 34-year-old Amanda Doss and her two children 8-year-old Texas Johnson and 11-year-old Guinivere Doss at their Redwater, Texas home. Investigators say the family was murdered before their home was set on fire in an attempt to cover up the crime on May 11, 2011.

That young woman has shark eyes. Totally devoid of human emotion.

I just ponder the motive behind this set of murders. The children are not age relevant to her so I doubt there is some built up rivalry or resentment towards the children.

Maybe something the mother did that was perceived as the ultimate slight but to warrant killing all three?

Do you have addresses for both the family home that burned in relation to where Pttman lived? I am curious as to their proximity.

I never caught this on at THM.


I just can't figure the depravity in a girl that young.

The capital murder trial of a Redwater teen indicted in the murder of a Bowie County mother and her two children has been moved to Rusk County.

Rachel Pittman, now 17, was indicted in February for capital murder for the deaths of 34-year-old Amanda Doss and 11-year-old Guinevere Doss and a separate murder charge for 8-year-old Texas Johnson. She has pleaded not guilty.

At pre-trial hearing Wednesday in New Boston, both the state and the defense agreed on a change of venue from Bowie County to Rusk County because of pre-trial publicity. The judge also agreed and granted the motion.

Pittman is now set to stand trial in Henderson in mid-January.

Defense attorneys for the Redwater teen accused in the death of a Bowie County mother and her two children are trying to get statements she made to law enforcement thrown out.

17-year-old Rachel Pittman is charged as an adult with capital murder for May 2011 the deaths of 34-year-old Amanda Doss and 11-year-old Guinevere Doss and is facing a separate murder charge for 8-year-old Texas Johnson. Investigators say the three were murdered in their home before a fire was set to cover up the crime.

Pesek to deliver ruling over Pittman’s confession

Testimony was given Wednesday in the case of Rachel Pittman, the 17 year-old charged with the murders of Amanda Doss and her two children, Guinevere and Texas, that rocked the local community in May of 2011.

Pesek will submit his ruling in writing at a later date.

At the Nov. 7 pretrial hearing, held in the 202nd courtroom of Judge Leon Pesek, Jr., testimony and evidence were presented in regards to a motion filed by Pittman’s defense attorneys Clifton L. "Scrappy" Holmes and Tonda Lynn Curry of Holmes & Moore, P.L.L.C., that would cause the suppression of the defendant’s confession statements. Pittman’s admission of guilt to the Bowie County Sheriff’s Department could be stricken from the case if Judge Pesek rules in the defense’s favor.

Confessions made by a Redwater, TX teen accused of killing a mother and her two children will be allowed in court, after the judge in the case denied a defense motion to suppress her statements Wednesday.

In his ruling Wednesday, Bowie County Judge Leon Pesek found that Pittman "knowingly, intelligently and voluntarily waived her rights when she gave her written statement to law enforcement." The State and the Defense agreed on a change of venue from Bowie County to Rusk County because of
pre-trial publicity. The Judge also agreed and granted the motion in August, 2012.

Because Rachel Pittman was 16 at the time of the crime, Pittman will not be eligible for the death penalty if convicted. She could face life in prison.

It is unfortunate that Rachel Pittman is not eligible for the death penalty due to her being 16 at the time the
three (3) murders were committed.

In my opinion, this is a case that warrants the death penalty.

Very few details have been disclosed regarding this case including the motive. I look forward to this trial and hope the media will cover this trial each day.

I would like to know what motivated a 16 year old girl to "allegedly" murder a mother and her two children.

I commend those involved in this case for the limited info disclosed in this case prior to trial. As is customary in Texas, there are no doc dumps prior to trial.

We will learn the details of these three horrific murders at trial.

Redwater teen takes plea deal in triple murder

A Redwater, TX teenager accused of killing a mother and her two children has taken a plea deal.

Rachel Pittman, now 18, was charged as an adult with capital murder in the May 2011 deaths of 34-year-old Amanda Doss and 11-year-old Guinevere Doss and was facing a separate murder charge for 8-year-old Texas Johnson. Autopsies confirmed all three died from violent injuries prior to the fire, which investigators believe was set to destroy evidence of the murders.

Trial was set to begin next week in Rusk County, but on Friday in Bowie County District Court, Pittman withdrew her insanity defense and plead guilty to two counts of the lesser charge of first degree murder.

Bowie County District Judge Leon Peseck, Jr. sentenced Pittman to two life sentences, with the possibility for parole after 30 years. She will not be able to appeal her sentence. Her attorney, Clifton "Scrappy" Holmes, says the deal gives her more privileges in prison than she would have had if she had gone to trial and been convicted on the capital murder charge.

Per the above articles, Rachel Pittman entered a plea deal on Friday, January 11, 2013.

On Friday, January 11, 2013, Bowie County District Judge Leon Peseck, Jr. sentenced Pittman to two life sentences with the possibility for parole after 30 years. Pittman will not be able to appeal her sentence.

The Christina Melton Crain Unit in Gatesville, TX where Rachel Pittman is currently located is the same prison unit where Abigail Young is serving her prison sentence.

Wow! I wonder if Young and Pittman will meet one another!

For those who might not know, Abigail Young is the mother of barely 4 year-old Emma Thompson who was brutally raped and murdered by Young's then boyfriend, Lucas Coe in June, 2009.
