Katelyn Markham: Missing woman from Fairfield, Ohio



Authorities are asking for help in finding missing Katelyn Markham, 22, from Fairfield, Ohio. She was suppose to report to work on Sunday at David Bridal's at the Tri-County Mall, but she never showed up.

She has not answered her cell phone or text messages.

Katelyn lived in a townhouse off Dorshire Drive in Fairfield and when her family came to look for her, they said the home looked untouched. They found her purse and keys in the home, and her dog locked in the bedroom.

Katelyn has been engaged to her finance, John Carter, for a year. They have known each other for six years and planned to get married in two years. Katelyn is to graduate from the Art Institute of Cincinnati in September.

Markham is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 130 pounds. She has brown hair with blond streaks and green eyes.

Ohio police search for missing Katelyn Markham

Ohio police are searching for a missing woman, Katelyn Markham, who has not been seen since last weekend. The 22-year-ancient vanished on Saturday and her mobile phone was shut off on Sunday morning. Since then, there has been no sign of her.

A prayer vigil was held on Friday to ensure that Katelyn Markham’s case remains in the headlines. And while police say that there’s nothing to indicate foul play, they also can’t rule out the likelihood. Markham’s friends say it’s very unlike her to simply vanish without letting anyone know where she is.

A Facebook page, Missing! Bring Katelyn Markham Home, has been set up to try to keep the tale alive and remind people that she is still missing. But police seem to have few leads in the case and so far it seems that Markham has simply vanished into thin air.

Police have released the 911 call that Katelyn Markham's fiancee placed to report her missing.

Markham, 22, of Fairfield, has been missing since Saturday when she didn't show up for work.

The community has been scouring the neighborhood every day near her town home since her disappearance, and still, police are not indicating any evidence of foul play.

Markham's fiancee, John Carter, called police on Sunday, Aug. 14 to report her missing.

"I know you're not suppose to report a missing person before 24 hours, but my fiancee is missing and I can't find her anywhere," he said in the call.

Carter last saw Markham on Saturday night. He says they were discussing a possible move to Colorado.

"We were planning on going in October and then we pushed back the date to November," he said. "We could have pushed the date back a year and it would not have mattered. I didn't want to make her do anything she didn't want to do, and she did not feel like she was being forced into anything."

FAIRFIELD — “What happened to Katelyn?”

The question has been consuming police, friends and family since Katelyn Markham was last seen late Saturday night. Authorities say there’s no evidence a crime occurred in her Doshire Drive townhouse, and friends and family say she was happy and looking forward to the life she had planned. Her fiance of one year, John Carter, said she’s too pragmatic and responsible to leave willingly.

Markham’s car, keys and purse were still at the apartment, and nothing was out of place.
On Wednesday — three days after she was reported missing — police secured her townhouse at 5214 Dorshire Drive.
Fairfield police Lt. Kevin Haddix said police aren’t securing the area as a crime scene, but are at a point where they need to look at the apartment to see if anything is missing, from a winter coat, to shoes, to the clothes she was last seen wearing.

Katelyn Markham, a colorful person is still missing though search efforts are ongoing

A prayer vigil was held on Friday for Katelyn Markham, the missing young woman of 22 years of age; it was on last Saturday when anyone saw the girl alive. A young, happy and friendly woman with no enemies as described the friends and family, Markham is still being looked for ever since she vanished over the past weekend.

Family had described that Katelyn Markham had figured her life out already and was set obtain a graduation degree from Ohio-Cincinnati based Art Institute. Markham an John Carter, her sweetheart fellow from the high school times, are engaged for one year now and the young couple had plans for October to move to Colorado together.

Katelyn Markham's 22nd birthday passed this week, an anonymous source offered a $3,000 reward, and still there is no sign of the 22-year-old bride-to-be.

Authorities admitted for the first time last week that foul play may have held a role in the vanishing of the Fairfield, Ohio woman, last seen Aug. 13. Family and friends remain baffled by her disappearance.

Markham, who is engaged to be married, had been preparing to graduate next month from the Art Institute of Cincinnati.

"She's positive, outgoing and motivated. She had a plan and she was sticking to it," her father recently told the Dayton Daily News.

"She would never just leave," her fiance John Carter, told the paper. "She's just too pragmatic. I'm just absolutely terrified."

Carter, 25, last heard from his missing bride-to-be Sunday, Aug. 14, at 12:52 AM when he received a photo from Markham sent by text message. The next morning, Carter says he sent Markham a "good morning" message, but she did not respond and never arrived at work.

New hope in the search for a missing Fairfield college student. Katelyn Markham went missing August 13. Everything she had was left behind - except her red blackberry. Saturday, search crews looking for clues found a similar phone off Lick Road in Fairfield.

A bright phone in a tumble of weeds, it's the closest thing to a clue anyone has found. It was found off Lick Road and police entered the phone into evidence. The search organizers tell us that the search team also found a phone battery, then a hoop earring and a black converse sneaker. Katelyn's fiancee told us the phone definitely does not belong to her. He says her phone had a green gem on top, this one does not. Katelyn's fiancee also says she didn't wear hoop earrings and her black converse shoes were too small, so he doesn't believe any of the items were hers.

Reward now $25K in Katelyn Markham case

FAIRFIELD - A reward for information about the disappearance of Katelyn Markham jumped to $25,000 Monday as the missing art student’s family invited a Texas search and recovery team to help coordinate the hunt for her.

Officials with Crime Stoppers said relatives and friends of Markham added $20,000 in reward money to the $5,000 from an anonymous contributor.

Tim Miller, founder and director of Texas EquuSearch Mounted Search and Recovery Team, was scheduled to arrive at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Missing Ohio Woman's Fiance Has 'Gut Feeling' She's Alive

The fiance of missing Ohio woman Katelyn Markham believes that she is still alive despite having vanished over two weeks ago.

"My gut feeling is that she's alive and that she's ok," John Carter told ABCNews.com. "I have to believe she's alive. I have to believe that I'm going to have her in my arms soon."

Carter, 23, was the last person to see Markham before she vanished. Police told ABC Affiliate WCPO that they have few leads in Markham's disappearance. There is no evidence of foul play, but it can't be ruled out, police said.

Texas Equusearch, a mounted search and recovery team, will begin assisting in the search for the 22-year-old woman Tuesday. A digital billboard has been erected in northern Kentucky to aid in the search for Markham. Search parties have been fanning out at parks and wooded areas near the bride-to-be's Fairfield, Ohio, home. Another search is planned for today.

Markham left behind her car, keys and purse. She took her cell phone with her. Calls to that phone go straight to voicemail.

Her fiance, Carter, said that he visited her at her home on Aug. 13. He said the two discussed their hopes to move to Colorado in November. Markham is supposed to finish her bachelor's degree in graphic design this September.

"We were just kind of talking about Colorado...We made plans for the next day...and then she had to go to bed because she always has to get up early," he said.

Markham was working at David's Bridal and at a book store. Carter said that he received multiple text messages from Markham after he left her in the early hours of Aug. 14. One of those text messages asked him to burn some of her bank documents.

"She had a big old bag full of stuff from the bank and so she had me go and burn them," Carter said. "Personally, it really was just an innocent little chore she wanted me to do for her and basically I went to a friend's house and I got rid of them."

Texas EquuSearch to join search for missing Fairfield woman

The founder and director of Texas EquuSearch will be in Fairfield on Tuesday to assist in the search for Katelyn Markham.

Tim Miller will meet with law enforcement to help look for Katelyn. He is with Texas EquuSearch, a mounted search and recovery team based in Dickinson, Texas.

Katelyn, 22, was last seen Aug. 14 at her town home on Dorshire Drive in Fairfield.

Meanwhile, friends of Katelyn are planning another search on Monday.

"I promised the father that we'd just do the best job that we can do, and maybe we can be a small part of just bringing this to an end," Miller said.

Texas Equusearch has assisted with other high profile cases, including the search for Caylee Anthony in Orlando, as well as the search Natalie Holloway in Aruba -- Miller said they'll start their search from Katelyn's townhome at create a search radius from there.

"Well, we're going to look at all the areas out there where someone could pull in, and dump something and get out quick --we'll start out from where she disappeared from and just do probably, a 10 mile radius,"Miller said.

This is an interesting case. Katelyn just vanished.

I am glad to hear that TES will search for her. Hope she is found soon.

I wonder if her boyfriend had anything to do with her disappearance. It is so odd that he put such emphasis about the festival or whatever down the street and strange people attending.

Thanks for posting Katelyn's info, pi. This is happening in my county and I have been watching the local news coverage but I've not been able to be on RC much in the last month.

Something stinks with the boyfriend, IMO. He says Katelyn had him burn a box of papers the night she disappeared. He said it was old bank statements and such. I just think that is really odd. I want to go assist in searches, but in light of my Mom's passing, I just can't do it right now. I hope I am wrong about him and she ran off for some reason. I just don't have a good feeling about it.

Texas team searches for missing Fairfield woman; hopes to solve two other cases

Volunteers searched during the daylight hours on Thursday, hoping to find something that could lead them to Katelyn Markham.

Tim Miller founded Texas Equusearch Mounted Search and Recovery Team, a group dedicated to finding the missing. Markham's father called the organization for help. Miller flew in earlier this week to help search for Katelyn.

"We're all working toward one goal, and that's to bring Katelyn home alive," said Miller. "If not, our goal is to bring her home so her family and this community can have a little bit of closure."

In total, 140 people broke into small groups and searched nearly a dozen spots in Butler and Hamilton counties. Miller stayed at the command post at the Fairfield West Baptist Church to learn the rules and map out the areas. Thursday was Miller's first full day of searching. He told volunteers to stay close to Katelyn's home.

Miller hopes at least 400 people will volunteer on Saturday. If so, he hopes to help search for two other missing persons here in the Tri-State: William DiSilvestro of West Hamilton, Ohio and Paige Johnson of Covington, Ky.

It's been hovering around 99 degrees here the last few days. We should get a break tomorrow from the heat. I hope they had enough volunteers show up to help search for Paige and William as well.

FAIRFIELD — The search for Katelyn Markham, who’s been missing since Aug. 14, will continue at 8:30 a.m. today as the area deals with near record-high temperatures.

Tim Miller, the founder and director of Texas EquuSearch, said that he expects close to 300 people to help out with today’s search, and that includes 11 more EquuSearch staff members from Central Ohio, Illinois and Kentucky.

Horses, four-wheelers, divers and sonar equipment will also be utilized to go along with the ground searchers.

“Everyone is so dedicated and driven,” Miller said. “We anticipate again to eliminate a lot of ground. We’ll have plenty of experience and dedication and resources. All we need is that luck to go along with it to bring this to an end.”

Miller wouldn’t disclose what areas the groups searched Friday and will search today. Thirty-five volunteers helped out on Friday, a day in which no clues were discovered and temperatures flirted with the 100-degree mark.

David Markham: Katelyn’s ‘remarkable, enthusiastic’

FAIRFIELD, Ohio - David Markham helps where he can in the search for his missing daughter, Katelyn Markham. Four words sum up how he feels about his eldest: “Very proud, very proud.”

“I just want her to come home—no questions asked. Just come home and act like these three weeks never happened, and let’s just get back with life. She’s got too much to offer, too much to finish that she started and come home and let’s finish it,” said David.

He stood inside the Fairfield West Baptist Church’s gymnasium, the command center, Saturday handing out food and drinks to searchers, hoping for any word about Katelyn.

“My involvement is just staying here at the command center. They do not want me going out. So I just try to fill up waters, help with food, sign people in. Great turnout today, roughly 200 people, horses, dogs, got a lot more of that today. So I think we covered some serious ground, some big heavy-populated areas.”

It’s been three weeks since anyone has seen or heard from 22-year-old.

She went missing Aug. 14, around midnight at her home in Fairfield, Ohio. She was last seen by her fiancé, John Carter.

When she failed to appear at work the following day, family and friends started their vigilant search. It’s a search for someone who, her father said, is going places.

David said Katelyn is someone that he not only misses but respects tremendously for the life she was creating for herself.

“Katelyn’s a very remarkable, enthusiastic, energetic woman. For 22 years old, she’s known what she wanted for the past two or three years. She set her goals to achieve them—checking them off one by one.”

We had strong thunderstorms overnight and all day today. It's pushed the extreme heat out of the area. It was 99, feeling like 110 for the last few days. I hope TES does return on Thursday.

Thank goodness for folks like Jeff Ruby! He donated 10,000 grand to TES to continue searching for Katelyn. He also denied OJ Simpson from his restaurant in 2007 after the Derby.

In the Casey Anthony case, he took out a full page ad with a message claiming "Orlando Justice"

Searches continue for missing Fairfield woman

FAIRFIELD — Search and discovery organization Texas EquuSearch will return to Fairfield Thursday to continue its effort in locating Katelyn Markham, who’s been missing since Aug. 14.

Last week, Texas EquuSearch led searches throughout Fairfield and the surrounding area. Tim Miller, founder and director, went back to Texas after an extensive Saturday search yielded no clues to Markham’s whereabouts. But he won’t be gone for long, and he’s returning with more volunteers and additional resources.

Miller planned to depart Texas on Tuesday afternoon and has a Thursday search planned. Along with Miller, about 30 experienced Texas EquuSearch volunteers from around the country will be traveling to Fairfield. Miller also is bringing back with him high-tech equipment, such as sonar, to search water and a tool that can be dropped down to search caves, wells and other deep areas. Searches also will use more All-Teraine Vehicles, he said.

As volunteers canvass and search the area for Markham, they’ll also be looking for any clues related to Billy DiSilvestro of Hamilton, who went missing Feb. 7.

FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) - Since Katelyn Markham's disappearance, hundreds of fliers have been hung around Butler County showing Katelyn's face and asking for anyone with information to call police. But recently many of those fliers have disappeared.

"Some places in Fairfield, they're being ripped down, I'm not sure which places exactly, and some in Hamilton around the courthouse," said Krista Snyder, friend of Katelyn's.

Officials with the City of Fairfield say city workers are not responsible for taking down the fliers and it's unclear who is responsible. Snyder says fliers started disappearing two weeks ago and it's hurting the efforts to bring Katelyn home.

Texas group suspends search for Katelyn Markham

FAIRFIELD – On Saturday more than 130 people searched for Katelyn Markham.

Like all the other searches since the 22-year-old college student vanished on Aug. 14, this one – which began at 8 a.m. and ended about 7:30 p.m. – was unsuccessful.

Searchers used cadaver dogs, all-terrain vehicles and horses.
“We did cover a lot ground. We at least know where she’s not. We haven’t given up hope yet,” said Dave Rader, assistant search director with Texas EquuSearch Mounted Search and Recovery Team.

Event set to benefit search for missing Fairfield woman

FAIRFIELD — A benefit for Katelyn Markham, the 22-year-old Fairfield woman missing for more than a month, has been organized by friends of her family to help offset costs associated with search efforts.

Markham’s father, Dave Markham, said the October benefit is a way to thank Texas EquuSearch, Search Tactics and Rescue Recovery (STAR) and Fairfield West Baptist Church, as well as to cover ongoing expenses, according to a statement on the TES website.

Volunteers Uncover New Clues In Missing Persons Search
Hamilton Police Remain Tight-Lipped

HAMILTON, Ohio -- Investigators may have caught a break in a missing persons case.

On Sunday, organizers said volunteers took part in a search of Billy Disilvestro and Katelyn Markham in some overgrown land on West Elkton Road near Hamilton schools.

After searchers began sifting through the area, one woman found what was described to be bones.

Police were called to the scene and did take some evidence away but Hamilton police did not say what it was.

The volunteer who made the find said she believes she found possible remains of Disilvestro and Markham.

FAIRFIELD, Ohio -- A group of complete strangers is spending their own time and money to find Katelyn Markham, the 22-year-old from Fairfield, who has already been missing for three months.

For the past three months, answers have been few and far between when it comes to Markham's disappearance, which makes an independently formed search crew more determined to find the missing Fairfield woman.

"It could be your child. Every time I see Dave Markham, (when) I see his face, I think of my children. He needs us out there," said resident Donna Metz.

Police still chasing tips on missing Ohio woman

FAIRFIELD, Ohio — The tips come in a trickle, instead of flooding in. The searchers go out in handfuls, instead of by the hundreds. The national TV show cameras are long gone.

Police and other people in this southwest Ohio city say they aren't giving up in their quest to find out what happened to a young woman who's been missing for more than three months. It's a baffling disappearance that at first frightened, and now frustrates, people in a northern Cincinnati suburb of some 43,000 people that is dotted with subdivisions and a "Village Green" center. Violent crime is rare here — the last murder was in 2008.

"Where is she?" asked Donna Metz, 35, who lives near Markham's home and has searched dozens of times. "It's like an alien came down from space and took her."

FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) - Fairfield Police Chief Michael Dickey sat down exclusively with FOX19 Friday afternoon, saying that the department is following up on new leads regarding missing 22-year-old Katelyn Markham, and has begun re-searching certain areas.

"Whether it takes 90 days or 900 days, we're not giving up on this case," Dickey said.

Search for missing woman hits 4-month mark

FAIRFIELD — Four months after Katelyn Markham went missing, those who know her continue to hold out hope she’ll come home safe.

Markham was last seen Aug. 13 at her Dorshire Drive townhouse. Her car, keys and purse were still at the residence, and her cell phone was turned off that night. Police haven’t recently received any tips or leads, but a detective is assigned to the case. Fairfield police Chief Mike Dickey said the department is working with the FBI on some “technical things” that are “mostly experimental.”
