Shafia Mother Says She Had Never Heard of So-Called Honour Killings

KINGSTON, Ont. - A woman accused of killing her three daughters and her husband's other wife says so-called honour killings are a new concept for her.

Tooba Yahya, 42, is testifying in her own defence in Kingston, Ont., where she is on trial for murder along with her husband and son.

They're accused of killing three teenage Shafia sisters — Zainab, Sahar and Geeti — along with the father's first wife in a polygamous marriage over family honour.

Never in her life, including the 21 years she lived in Afghanistan, had she ever heard of a "stupid father or a stupid mother (doing) anything like this," Yahya told court.

No surprise. Many Muslims, mostly the women, have no idea what all is entailed in sharia law, honor killings being lawful according to it.

An aside:
Many Muslims follow the Medina writings of islam which is the more peaceful part of the religion/ideology and does not have the honor killings in its writings. These Muslims reject the sharia law for the most part. The Meccan writings of islam have the violent passages which, among other atrocious acts, allows for honor killings.

White guilt has terrible consequences. This was made profoundly clear in Canada during the three month trial of Mohammad Shafia, his wife Tooba Yahya and their son Hamed. They were convicted a week ago of the first-degree murder of Zainab (19), Sahar (17) and Geeti Shafia (13), and 50-year-old Rona Amir. The three teens were Mohammad Shafia and Tooba Yahya’s daughters, Hamed’s sisters. Rona was Mohammad Shafia’s first wife. The four women had been drowned in their car in June, 2009. The killers had chosen a canal in Kingston — a university town half-way between Toronto and Montreal — because they assumed that the local police would be less sophisticated and able than those in a larger city. They had also researched murder techniques on the internet, and planned this honour killing long in advance.
