The missing UC Davis student found dead last Friday along the American River committed suicide, her parents said at a news conference Tuesday morning.

Nineteen-year-old Linnea Lomax was found under a tree by a group of searchers, including her mother, near Sacramento State.

The young woman's father, Craig Lomax, said his daughter hanged herself.

The parents of UC Davis student Linnea Lomax said their 19 year-old daughter committed suicide by hanging from a tree, KCRA3 reported.

Lomax’s parents held a news conference at Cold Springs Community Church in Placerville Tuesday.

Her mother was among the group of searchers who discovered her body, according to KCRA3.

Lomax was last seen on June 26 in the 800 block of Howe Avenue in Sacramento, where she had attended a scheduled appointment at an out-patient psychiatric hospital, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s office.

The young woman had been depressed about school and, after a breakdown, at the urging of her parents, had admitted herself to a mental-health facility for a week, before being released as an out-patient. That was the last anyone ever saw of Linnea until last Friday. Her devastated parents told the Sacramento Bee, “We feel the loss was unnecessary and unavoidable. We look forward to playing our part in change that saves lives.”

Linnea Lomax's Mother Found Daughter Hanging From A Tree Near A Sacramento River

The heartbroken mother of University of California, Davis, student Linnea Lomax said she is the one who discovered her daughter's body hanging from a tree near the American River in Sacramento, Calif., this past Friday morning.

"We stood there and we smelled a bad smell, and we were smelling every plant around trying to figure out what it could be," an emotional Marianne Lomax explained at a press conference Tuesday.

Lomax said the smell led her to some thick brush underneath a tree. She said she bent down and crawled through the foliage.

"I crawled through on my knees and hands, and I came to a pretty place right by the river, and the river was there and there was really nothing else there, and then I saw my daughter," she said. "I looked for two seconds, and I knew that was her. I ran up screaming and called 911, and that's how it went."

The parents of Linnea Lomax -- the UC Davis student who went missing in late June and was found hanging from a tree -- will appear on television Tuesday night.

To represent their daughter, Marianne and Craig Lomax will be on the Dr. Drew show tonight at 9 p.m., according to the Help Find Linnea Facebook page.

Linnea Lomax’s parents say the daughter they knew would never commit suicide.

Now, Marianne and Craig Lomax blame mental illness for annihilating the 19-year-old UC Davis student. Linnea hanged herself along the American River in the Sacramento area last month.

After leaving a psychiatric hospital, Linnea disappeared for 10 weeks. “She felt like if she failed this outpatient program that they were going to come after her and they were going to throw her back in the hospital,” the father explained to HLN’s Dr. Drew Tuesday night.
