A Tennessee man accused of fatally shooting his wife at their home in a Nashville suburb Sunday night has been charged with murder, according to local authorities.

Randolph C. Maidens, 42, of Brentwood, Tenn., appeared before a Williamson County magistrate judge today and was charged with homicide in the death of his wife, Rachael Maidens, according to Sharon Puckett, a spokeswoman for the Williamson County Sheriff's Department.

Rachael Maidens, a Brentwood orthodontist, was found dead in the couple's home inside the gated Governors Club golf community after police responded to a "welfare check" at 5:49 p.m. on Sunday. Puckett said it was not clear who called 911 to ask police to check on the Maidens.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - There were a flurry of developments Wednesday in Brentwood's orthodontist murder case that include the suspect meeting with a high profile defense firm, being called a "flight risk" and sympathy for the victim's family from his former employer.

The developments in the murder of Dr. Rachael Maidens began early Wednesday morning and continued late into the afternoon with word that her husband Randolph "Randy" Maidens was meeting with a defense team that has represented clients in some of Tennessee's most notorious murder cases.

Fletcher Long and John Herbison have confirmed to Nashville's News 2 that they are talking with Maidens who has been at the Williamson County Jail since being charged with his wife's shooting death on Monday.

Rachael and Randolph Maidens first met in Atlanta. He is charged in her death.

On the surface, Dr. Rachael Maidens appeared to have it all: Her own practice, a loving family and  a posh home in an upscale country club community near Nashville, Tenn.

But that picturesque image was shattered Sunday when police found her fatally shot inside her estate, and now they've turned their attention to her husband, Randolph Maidens, who was charged Monday in her death.

The 42-year-old was nabbed early Monday hiding out in the woods behind his home in the gated Governors Club community in Brentwood. He surrendered without incident, and the couple’s 2-year-old daughter was also found unharmed inside the home, Brentwood police Capt. Tommy Campsey told the Daily News.

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - She was shot and killed inside her own home, and police said it was at the hands of her husband, but many still want to know what went wrong in a seemingly picture perfect marriage between a popular orthodontist and her husband.

~Snipped~

Witnesses at Bricks Cafe said Maidens stumbled into the restaurant back in January visibly drunk and reportedly made customers and staff uncomfortable. They called Metro Police after a shot gun shell fell out of his pocket and upon further investigation, said a gun was found in the back seat of his car.

Witnesses said Maidens repeatedly asked that no one call his wife because she'd be mad at him. Maidens wasn't arrested, but witnesses said his wife came and picked him up.

Court documents obtained by NewsChannel 5 show Brentwood Police charged Maidens back in February with Driving Under the Influence and Implied consent.

Police said Maidens was drunk when he drove his Black Infiniti into a transformer station. Middle Tennessee Electric confirmed it led to nearly 200 homes losing power for hours.

Judge refuses to lower bond of Brentwood man accused of killing wife

Reported by Dennis Ferrier
Reported by Josh DeVine

BRENTWOOD, TN (WSMV) - A Williamson County judge refused Wednesday to lower the $2.5 million bond of a Brentwood man accused of killing his wife inside The Governor's Club on Sunday.

Randolph "Randy" Maidens, 42, was arrested Monday morning and charged in the death of Dr. Rachael Frisbie Maidens at the couple's home.

Randy Maidens made a brief court appearance Wednesday via video conference, and the judge decided not to drop the $2.5 million bond.

"You, obviously, have the right to an attorney, and you need to have an attorney. The seriousness of the charges, there's no doubt about that," the judge said.

Court documents reveal Randy Maidens may not be able to post bond despite owning a house worth $900,000.

He also cited a $3,000-a-week job, a car worth $50,000 and a retirement fund worth $200,000 and indicated he might hire a private attorney.

Judge lowers alleged Governors Club killer bond; cops say he left suicide note

By Ken Whitehouse

At a hearing in Brentwood Thursday, Randolph Maidens' bond was lowered from $2.5 million to $750,000 in the alleged slaying of his wife Dr. Rachael Maidens.

During the preliminary and bond reduction hearing, Judge Al Nations listened to more than an hour of testimony from witnesses, including two Brentwood police officers, who told the court what they saw at the crime scene and how they found the couple's 2-year-old daughter alone in the home.

Randolph Maidens allegedly shot and killed his wife, a Brentwood orthodontist, at their home in the exclusive Governors Club subdivision in Brentwood sometime on or before Sunday, April 21.

Just before 6 p.m. that Sunday, Brentwood Police Officer Austin Kearn arrived at the Maidens’ home at 64 Governors Way as part of a welfare check at the behest of Rachael’s mother.

As of 3 p.m., Friday, May 24 the Williamson County Sheriff's Department confirmed that Randolph Maidens had not posted bail and remained in jail.

Maidens' bond was reduced to $750,000 on Thursday afternoon, after Judge Al Nations said leaving it at $2.5 million would be equivalent to having no bail at all.

Attorney David Raybin said he appreciated that the judge fixed the bond and they would comply with all requests.

Maidens is charged with first degree murder for allegedly killing his wife, Dr. Rachael Maidens, on April 21 in their Governors Club home.

Alleged Governors Club killer Randolph Maidens posts bond, will be released

Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 4:52pm

By Ken Whitehouse

Randolph Maidens, who allegedly killed his wife at their home in the upscale Governors Club development in Brentwood, posted bond on Tuesday.

"My client has posted bond, but he is still in custody," attorney David Raybin told The City Paper. "He will be released by early evening. He will comply with all of the conditions of release imposed by the judge." One of those conditions is that Maidens wear a monitoring device, which delayed his release until he could be fitted, according to Williamson County District Attorney Kim Helper.

At a May 23 hearing in Brentwood, Randolph Maidens' bond was lowered from $2.5 million to $750,000 in the alleged slaying of his wife Dr. Rachael Maidens.

An unemployed husband accused of shooting his 34-year-old orthodontist wife to death in April and leaving their two-year-old daughter with the body has been allowed to live in the home where the brutal murder occurred.

A Williamson County judge ruled yesterday that Randolph Maidens, 42, from Brentwood, Tennessee, can return to the Governors Club family home he shared with his wife and daughter until April 21, when Dr Rachael Maidens was found dead.

Maidens can return to Governors Club; murder details revealed

Brentwood Home Page staff reports
Published: July 23, 2013

Updated at 8 p.m. Tuesday
Brentwood orthodontist Rachael Maidens was shot 10 times – eight shots in the back with a 9mm handgun and twice in the back with a shotgun – testimony revealed Monday at a civil hearing in the Williamson County Courthouse.

Murder suspect Randolph Maidens, 42, Rachael’s husband who remains free on $750,000 bond, did not attend.

However Maidens is now free to return to the Governors Club home he shared with his wife and their 2-year-old daughter until Rachael's death on April 21. On Monday, Circuit Court Judge Robbie Beal ruled that Maidens can reside in the home in the exclusive development located off Concord Road.

The ruling relaxes one of three conditions put on Maidens June 25 as part of a restraining order sought by Rachael Maidens’ family. At that hearing, Maidens pleaded not guilty to all four of the charges relating to the case. They include one count of premeditated murder, two counts of tampering with evidence and one count of child neglect.

Brentwood Police clarify court ruling in Maidens case

By wherald
web@williamsonherald.com

Posted on: 7/24/2013

Williamson County Circuit Civil Court Judge Robbie Beal rendered a judgment on Monday, July 22, that would allow Randolph Maidens to live in the residence at 64 Governors Way, Brentwood, Tenn., where his wife Rachael Maidens was found murdered.

Despite the ruling an order was already in place in the Circuit Criminal Court that was agreed upon by the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office and Maidens’ defense counsel. That order restricts Maidens’ ability to live at the residence.

The primary order, approved by Judge Martin in the Circuit Criminal Court, will remain in place.  Maidens will not be allowed back at the Governor’s Club residence unless he follows the agreed upon restrictions set forth in Criminal Court. Those restrictions include constant GPS tracking, notification to the Brentwood Police Department prior to visiting and after leaving the residence, and being accompanied by legal counsel at all times while at the residence.

Maidens is awaiting trial, standing accused of killing his wife in April.

BRENTWOOD — Although a civil court granted Randolph Maidens permission during a hearing Monday to return to his Governors Club home, where his wife’s body was found in April, the pending charges in criminal court may prevent that.

A restriction that barred him from the house is part of his bond agreement, said Kim Helper, district attorney for the 21st Judicial District.

“One of the conditions of being released on bond was that he was not allowed to go back to the residence without attorneys present at all times and without giving 24-hour notice to the police department,” she said.

A temporary restraining order was filed by the mother of murder victim Rachael Frisbie Maidens the same day that suspect Randolph Maidens was released from the Williamson County Jail.

Elizabeth Frisbie, Rachael’s mother, filed the temporary restraining order on June 4. The order would restrict Maidens, 42, and his attorney, David Raybin, from accessing, using, damaging or disbursing any shared assets he had with his wife or would have gained after her death.

Maidens, who is charged with criminal homicide, is also restrained from using assets that would have gone to his 2-year-old daughter, Natalie.
