TORONTO - Abdullah Khadr was released Wednesday after 4 1/2 years behind bars when a Toronto judge stayed his extradition hearing.
Ottawa wanted Khadr, 29, sent to the U.S. to face terrorism-related charges.
His lawyers argued their client's incriminating statements were the result of torture during detention in Pakistan.
"I think this is going to be a new beginning for me in life," Khadr said outside court.
"I want to just start anew now. I don't want to think about it anymore."
