Social workers continue testimony in Manwill Murder Trial

BOISE -- Testimony from social workers wrapped up the second week of the Manwill Murder Trial.

Daniel Ehrlick is charged with beating 8-year-old Robert Manwill to death in what prosecutors call "a pattern of escalating violence" almost two years ago. He faces life in prison.

Private case workers contracting with the Idaho Health and Welfare Department told jurors in state district court Ehrlick appeared to understand the difference between right and wrong when it comes to raising a child.

Ehrlick voluntarily attended parenting classes on a limited basis in the summer of 2009.

Prosecutors say Ehrlick's girlfriend, Robert Manwill's mother Melissa Jenkins, was ordered to take the classes after she fractured the skull of her toddler son Aidan in 2008.

BOISE -- Ex-girlfriends of Daniel Ehrlick say he's been violent in relationships since he was a teenager. They testified against Ehrlick on Tuesday, day 10 of his murder trial.

Ehrlick is accused of killing 8-year-old Robert Manwill in 2009.

Three of Ehrlick's ex-girlfriends testified Tuesday; each of them lived with Ehrlick at different times going back to when he was a teenager.

All three testified that Ehrlick was physically and emotionally abusive. They described instances where he'd choke them, sometimes while they were asleep. One ex-girlfriend said he tried pushing her out of a moving car.

"She was acting weird, sitting there fumbling with phone, so I asked what was wrong," said Gary Arms. "she said her was told he couldn't go to a birthday party but he went anyway and that they couldn't find him."

The man accused of weeks of escalating violence that resulted in the 2009 death of Robert Manwill was violent toward three past live-in girlfriends, according to testimony in Daniel Ehrlick’s first-degree murder trial Tuesday.

The relationships were in 1990, 1997 and 2004. All three women told jurors that Ehrlick was prone to sudden fits of anger and was controlling and emotionally abusive, calling them names like “bitch” and deciding when they could leave the house. All three also said he choked them — sometimes as they lay in bed — and pulled their hair.

Police say Ehrlick, Jenkins deleted text messages from night of Robert Manwill's death

Boise police investigators say Melissa Jenkins and Daniel Ehrlick exchanged 42 text messages during the late afternoon and evening of July 24, 2009 — the day Robert Manwill was reported missing — but by the time detectives examined their cell phones, less than a dozen messages remained.

Ehrlick and Jenkins also spoke on the phone that night, while Jenkins was at work, for 63 minutes, Boise Police Sgt. Brian Lee testified Tuesday on the 11th day of Ehrlick’s first-degree murder trial.

BOISE -- Prosecutors called nearly a dozen witnesses in less than five hours of court Wednesday in day 11 of Daniel Ehrlick's murder trial.

A few of those witnesses worked with Ehrlick's girlfriend, Melissa Jenkins.

She's the mother of 8-year-old Robert Manwill, who Ehrlick is accused of murdering.

Most of the testimony came from co-workers of Melissa Jenkins, Robert Manwill's mom.

Today, the prosecution gave us a timeline of what Jenkins was doing when her son went missing.

Jenkin's co-workers testified in court Wednesday about the day her son Robert Manwill had supposedly gone missing, July 24th, 2009.

Her boyfriend Daniel Ehrlick is charged with first degree murder in the death of her eight year old.

Daniel Ehrlick and Melissa have always insisted that Robert left the house and went to a birthday party without permission.

Co-workers say Jenkins was working when her son Robert supposedly went missing.

She reportedly got a call at 7:30 allegedly from Ehrlick.

Ehrlick is accused of murdering Manwill in 2009.

Daniel Ehrlick called 911 just after 10 o'clock that night.

We've learned through other testimony Ehrlick told his girlfriend Melissa Jenkins, Robert's mother, that the boy was missing around 7 that night, or roughly three hours earlier.

Boise -- Day 13 of the Daniel Ehrlick trial had a Boise Police detective on the stand. The detective says Ehrlick and his girlfriend Melissa Jenkins' moods seemed odd when being questioned about missing 8 year old, Robert Manwill.

The detective said their apartment was very dirty. He found stacks of soda cans with cigarette butts, and piles of dirty clothes.

Was there a birthday party at the Oak Park Village Apartments the night in 2009 that Robert Manwill went missing?

That question dominated the third week of Daniel Ehrlick’s first-degree murder trial. The prosecution case, expected to last at least two more weeks, resumes Monday.

When 8-year-old Robert disappeared July 24, 2009, Ehrlick told 911 dispatchers, Boise police, family members and neighbors that was where Robert might be. He said he’d told the boy several times that night that he couldn’t go but that he might have snuck off to the party.

Regarding the updates, you are welcome. Precious little Robert really had an awful life after moving in with his mother and Daniel! It appears he lived in fear per the neighbors. However, they had no idea of what was really going on.

Tomorrow should be an interesting day. Robert's mother, Jenkins, is expected to testify against Daniel tomorrow. She is scheduled to be sentenced in August.

BOISE -- Monday in court detectives explained why from the first night Robert Manwill was reported missing they suspected Daniel Ehrlick and Melissa Jenkins may have been involved in foul play, perhaps organizing a cover-up.

Ehrlick is currently on trial for Robert's murder.

Jenkins has pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting in his murder.

Ehrlick concerned he might be target of investigation

Today we heard from a detective and a victim witness coordinator who spent a lot of time with Ehrlick and Jenkins, mostly in the overnight hours after Ehrlick reported Robert missing.

They both said they didn't feel welcome, that Ehrlick kept asking why more detectives were needed and why they wanted more information.

Two police department officials say in the hours after he reported Robert Manwill missing, Daniel Ehrlick was acting agitated, nervous and angry at times.

Boise, Idaho -- It is now week four in the trial against the man accused of killing Robert Manwill.

Police and detectives took the stand today and say that Daniel Ehrlick and Melissa Jenkins had a lot of inconsistencies in their stories and police started suspecting foul play early on.

Cops say the pair did not act like people who are looking for their missing child.

It didn't really match with what I normally see.

That's how police describe the demeanor of murder suspect Daniel Ehrlick and Robert Manwill's mother, Melissa Jenkins.

Boise Police Det. Glen Rawson told a jury Monday "the hairs stood up on my neck" when he heard Melissa Jenkins and Daniel Ehrlick talk about Robert Manwill in the past tense — just hours after Ehrlick reported the boy missing July 24, 2009.

Rawson's testimony has taken up much of day 14 of Ehrlick's first-degree murder trial Monday.

Rawson told the jury that both Ehrlick and Jenkins were uncooperative as he tried to get basic information that night and the next morning, as police were searching for the boy near the couple's apartment complex on the Boise Bench.

The murder trial of Daniel Ehrlick is in its fourth week. Melissa Jenkins, the mother of Robert, is expected to testify against Ehrlick today. She entered a guilty plea some months ago and it is expected she will be sentenced in August, 2011.

I commend the Boise, Idaho news media. They have covered Robert Manwill's case, all hearings and now Ehrlick's trial. It is so sad the abuse little 8 year old Robert endured for a long time prior to his death.

I hope Ehrlick will be found guilty and justice is served for the horrific abuse little Robert sustained prior to his death.

I have kept Robert's thread updated at Reality Chatter (RC). Art Tart, if I remember correctly, you expressed an interest in following Robert's case/Daniel's trial. I hope that you have been able to read the many articles regarding the trial.

Last night I found a photo gallery from Robert's funeral/burial service in August, 2009. There are 13 pictures. A Link to the Photo Gallery is posted on Page 7 of Robert's thread at RC (See: by Ann - Tx Yesterday, 6-6-11 at 8:52 pm). The pictures are real clear and sharp . . . great clarity!

One of the pictures really touched my heart!

BOISE -- We now know the mother of Robert Manwill, the 8-year-old boy murdered nearly two years ago, will not testify in the Daniel Ehrlick trial until next week at the earliest.

Prosecutors may call Melissa Jenkins to testify against her former boyfriend who is being tried for the boy's murder.

Prosecutors want ability to question Jenkins about guilty plea

Tuesday morning, prosecutors filed a motion asking the court to allow Jenkins to testify about certain things, if she's called as a witness.

Prosecutors want the judge to allow attorneys to question Jenkins about her guilty plea, admitting to aiding and abetting the murder by torture of her son.

BOISE -- Outside the presence of the jury Tuesday, prosecutor Jill Longhurst told Judge Darla Williamson that the mother of eight-year-old Robert Manwill, Melissa Jenkins, will testify in the murder trial of Jenkins' former boyfriend, Daniel Ehrlick.

Longhurst indicated Melissa Jenkins could take the stand next week, at the earliest. There are jury instructions and motions to be dealt with before Jenkins testifies.

No Word from Murdered Boy's Mother in Trial

On day 15 of the trial of Daniel Ehrlick, the Boise man accused of murdering his girlfriend's son in 2009, officers testified Ehrlick's timeline kept changing and the he had repeated episodes of rage.

One officer said she was walking back to her vehicle late in the night when she heard strange sounds of cursing and crying coming from a nearby area of the complex.

BOISE -- We're starting to see a timeline come together on the day 8-year-old Robert Manwill was reported missing.

His mother's boyfriend, Daniel Ehrlick,is now on trial for his murder.

We're on day 16 of the trial and since the beginning prosecutors have been working to show what happened before and after Ehrlick called 911 to report Robert missing.

Police call Ehrlick’s timeline a problem

The defendant’s description of the order of events on the day Robert Manwill was reported missing didn’t match what investigators later discovered.

Detective Mark Ayotte told a jury Tuesday that he and other officers investigating the disappearance of Robert Manwill were frustrated that Daniel Ehrlick was not able to provide a clear timeline of what happened before he called 911 to report the boy missing just after 10 p.m. July 24, 2009.

Ayotte was the third Boise detective to try to get Ehrlick to explain what happened that weekend, when Ayotte and an FBI agent interviewed him July 26.

Just three days after Daniel Ehrlick reported 8-year-old Robert Manwill’s disappearance in July 2009, Ehrlick and the boy’s mother, Melissa Jenkins, were put under surveillance because of their suspicious behavior, Boise police officers told a jury Thursday.
The testimony came on Day 17 of Ehrlick’s first- degree murder trial.

BOISE -- Melissa Jenkins was in court Monday for a hearing related to her former boyfriend, Daniel Ehrlick's murder trial.

He's accused of murdering Jenkins' 8-year-old son Robert Manwill. She's pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting his murder.

Ehrlick blames his own father for Robert's disappearance

The jury heard testimony and evidence that Ehrlick eventually accused his father of taking Robert.

On day 18 of the trial of Daniel Ehrlick, the man accused of killing 8-year-old Robert Manwill, attorneys cleared the way for Jenkins to testify.
