I've got a full day scheduled for Thursday so I hope someone here will be able to fill me in that night...I soooo want to hear the debate that will ensue regarding this...If it is allowed, no doubt it will destroy the hair/s...I just don't know why they want to prove that they're Caylee's...hasn't that already been done??? Has anyone ever heard of "overkill"...IMO the defense team has gone overboard...Insert smiley of beating a dead horse...or dollar bill with wings...I think Casey will be found not guilty when pigs fly on their own...

Can overtesting of this type of evidence possibly destroy it?

Absolutely...I thought I had read somewhere back when Jose had his forensics people looking at evidence and wanting to test it that defense would have to go with State results if testing destroyed evidence,,,Something along those lines...anyone want to back search????

UPDATED: 10:04 am EST November 17, 2010
ORLANDO, Fla. -- A court hearing will be held Thursday in the Casey Anthony murder case.
At the hearing, Anthony's defense team is expected to argue to have new DNA tests performed -- at taxpayers' expense -- on two hairs that prosecutors say prove Caylee's body was in the trunk of her mother's vehicle at some point.
Judge Belvin Perry will oversee the hearing, which is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. Anthony is not expected to attend.

Casey's defense: We want to spend $2,000 in public money on DNA tests
Rene Stutzman, Orlando Sentinel
4:53 p.m. EST, November 17, 2010
The Casey Anthony case is back in court tomorrow. This time, the dispute is how much public money the defense should be allowed to spend on two DNA tests.
Her attorneys want to spend just over $2,000 to have an out-of-state laboratory check for DNA on the victim's shorts and on a bag found with her remains.
But the state agency that manages that public spending, the Justice Administrative Commission, objects. In court paperwork filed last week, it said an in-state lab could do the same work.
The commission also said Anthony's attorneys have cherry-picked the lab – National Medical Services Labs of Willow Grove, Penn., – and that's not allowed.

Testimony From Key Casey Witness Could Be Falling Apart
November 17, 2010
~ Snipped ~
There's a hearing Thursday in the case against Casey, but her defense attorneys won't be in the courtroom, because the hearing will be conducted on the phone. It's expected to last only a few minutes.
A status conference is scheduled for November 29 at the courthouse. Casey is not required to attend.

Cash approved to test DNA on Caylee's shorts
Rene Stutzman and Anthony Colarossi, Orlando Sentinel

Her attorneys filed a motion for clarification to spend $2,084 and have National Medical Services check for DNA on the victim's shorts and on a bag found with her remains.
JAC officials had wanted an in-state lab to conduct the testing, but Florida apparently lacks private labs with the special level of certification required to do this testing. It has crime labs capable of the testing, but the defense asked for an outside, non-law enforcement lab to do the work.
The JAC had recommended two in-state labs with some level of certification, but the rates for those labs were not known and defense attorney Jose Baez said it would be an "impossibility" to utilize those facilities for this case.
Perry said the bill for the National Medical Services DNA testing "is not an exorbitant amount of money. Therefore, the court will grant the motion."

Re: DNA Test Hearing - 11/18/10 1:30 p.m.
Me too, Fysty, but in this case, I think it is OK..... this motion being granted will likely eliminate one more appellate issue.
Now if I see JB smirk about it, I may change my mind!!!
