Casey Anthony Trial Day 33: State Resumes Rebuttal
State To Resume Rebuttal In Casey Murder Trial
Updated: 7:54 am EDT July 1, 2011
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- It's day 44 of Casey Anthony’s murder trial, and the prosecution will continue to present its rebuttal case to the jury.
Chief Judge Belvin Perry told jurors they could get the case and begin deliberations by Saturday.
However, the state wants to present witnesses to counter some of Casey's mother, Cindy Anthony’s testimony about when she was at work and not at work. But the defense says they need time to prepare for that testimony.
This testimony and evidence revolve around whether Cindy Anthony was home the days web searches for chloroform happened.
On Thursday, the defense rested its case and Casey told the judge she will not be testifying.
“Ms. Anthony is it your decision not to testify?” asked Perry.
"Yes, sir," she said.
“You understand that your decision is solely your decision and yours alone?” he asked.
"Yes, sir," she replied.
WFTV’s legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said that was a good decision and her testimony would have done far more damage than has already been done to the defense case.
“The state's case was compelling and proved their case beyond a reasonable doubt she couldn't get on the stand and refute all the evidence presented by the state,” he said.
On Thursday, George, Cindy, and Lee Anthony were called back to the stand to talk about how the family buried its pets in the back yard.
“She was in black plastic bag and I do recall duct tape used to secure the bag,” said Lee Anthony.

The state began its rebuttal on Friday with testimony from a lawyer for the company that once employed her mother, Cindy Anthony.
Gentiva Health Services Chief Compliance Officer John Camperlengo was the first witness called Friday afternoon when the trial resumed after a morning-long recess. Judge Belvin Perry called the recess before jurors entered the courtroom so the defense could take depositions of prosecution witnesses.
