SENATH, Mo. -- The Dunklin County Sheriff's Department has been called to assist the Senath Police Department in the search for a missing child.
Four-year old Breann Rodriguez was last seen wearing pink and blue clothes, pigtails, and was riding a pink bicycle with training wheels.

When asked the circumstances surrounding the child's disappearance, Wallace Poynor, Chief Deputy with the Dunklin County Sheriff's Department commented, "She was out riding a bicycle and her brother went into the house and came back out, she was gone. Right now she is a missing child.We have no idea about anything else except for the fact she's missing."

SENATH, Mo. -- Authorities have located a "person of interest" in the disappearance of a 4-year-old Senath girl who went missing around 12 p.m., today, Saturday, Aug. 6.
According to Senath City Marshal Omar Karnes, a white van that was reported to be in the vicinity when Breann Rodriguez went missing has been located, and the driver is being questioned at the Dunklin County Justice Center.

Karnes reported that the van is also being inspected for any clues.

SENATH, MO (KFVS/KAIT) - The Federal Bureau of Investigation has joined in the search for a missing 3-year-old Dunklin County girl.

According to the Dunklin County Sheriff's Office, Breeann Rodriguez, 3, was still missing early Sunday morning, and the FBI has joined in the investigation along with Senath Police, Mo. State Highway Patrol, Kennett Police and the Bootheel Drug Task Force.

I agree, Ann, it is not safe to allow kids to play outside without adult supervision.

I can't find anything that tells where parents or adults were at the time. Most young parents don't seem to be aware of the danger that lurks around the corner. I know when I try to tell my oldest daughter about the things we see here, she pretty much just rolls her eyes at me and tells me I watch too much news.

SENATH, Mo. -- Senath Police Chief Omar Karnes said the search for missing 3-year-old Breeann Rodriguez will be a daily priority until the child is found.
"It will be a daily thing until we find her or find out what happened," Karnes said. "It turns this community upside down.

Earlier this afternoon, Karnes was asked for an update on the case, to which he replied, "We've had a few new leads. There is nothing changed, still no evidence. Nothing other than a missing child."

Karnes was also asked why an Amber Alert has not been issued.

"It doesn't meet the criteria for an Amber Alert yet, " Karnes said. "There are no signs of foul play or an abduction. It is just a missing child [case] right now."

pi-girl, thank you for the update! Some thing is very hinky with this case.

There have been mentions of her father in some articles. No mention of the mom.

I wonder if the parents are separated or divorced; custody issue pending, etc.

I wish the reporters would do a little digging on the family background.

I am not implying the family is involved but I just think it would be helpful (for us) if we had more info.

SENATH, Mo. -- A total of $45,000 has been offered in rewards in the case of Breeann Rodriguez, 3, who went missing on Saturday near her Senath home.
At a press conference earlier this afternoon, Rodriguez' parents, Claudia Ramos and Edgar Rodriguez; Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder; Senath Police Chief Omar Karnes; and Special Agent In Charge, Dennis Baker, of the Federal Bureau of Investigation of St. Louis, Mo., gave updates on the current situation in the case.

After turning the public away, Baker said the FBI has issued a $25,000 reward for the "successful return and prosecution of person or persons responsible for the disappearance, if someone did take her."

"My department has a $20,000 guaranteed reward for the safe return and conviction of whoever took Breeann," Karnes said. "We want the child home safely."

AMBER Alerts: Guidelines for issuing an alert to the public

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – In light of the search efforts for a missing three-year old girl in southeast Missouri, many Region 8 residents have been asking why an AMBER Alert has not been issued in the case. Breeann Rodriguez of Senath, Missouri was reported missing Saturday after she was last seen riding her bicycle. Since her disappearance, police have been trying to locate the little girl.

Shortly after Region 8 News posted the disappearance on Facebook, residents began questioning why an AMBER Alert wasn't issued. According to Senath Police Chief Omar Karnes, there is no proof of foul play in Breeann's disappearance.

Breeann's parents look truly devistated.

I want so badly for them to be able to hold and hug their little girl again. Praying for her to be able to come home and wrap her little arms around them!!

There needs to be something else that stands in the place of an Amber alert that doesn't have to meet such strict criteria.

My questions...
Do they not have reasonable belief that an abduction has occurred?

Yes, something besides an Amber Alert seriously needs to be done to get the information out there. Too much precious time is lost in the red tape!

Per the above videos, Breeann lived in a very small community of 1,600 on a dead end street.

She was out riding her bike with her 5 year old brother in the hot weather. Her little brother went in to get a drink of water and was gone about 20 minutes. During that time, Breeann went missing.

I think it is irresponsible for the parents to let 3 year old Breeann be outside by herself. Who would let a 3 and 5 year old be out in the front yard without supervision of an adult or a much older child?

In this day and time, you can not let such small children be in the front yard alone.

Breeann is only 3 and she was outside alone for about 20 minutes if the parents are correct on the time.

Per the video, there are 8 sex offenders in the area and they are being "checked out."

I don't know the situation in this case, but one thing that seems to be an ongoing trend in our world:

Young parents do not seem to get it. It's too easy for them to send their children outside to play to get them out of their hair.
They get tired of the talking, fighting, playing loudly, questions, etc.
They don't seem to realize that there is real danger out there just waiting for a victim. They don't realize...until it's too late and then they can't take it back.
They think that those of us who do what we do here are just fanatics and "things like that just don't happen".
But they do happen. Somewhere, every day.

In a perfect world we wouldn't have to worry about how many sex offenders live near our children. It's not perfect, so we must always be on the look-out for these predators - the ones who are registered and those who have not yet been caught.

Somehow, someone needs to drill the truth into the hard, stubborn heads of today's young parents and make them realize the danger that's lurking just beyond their doors.

SENATH, MO (KFVS/KAIT) - "I just want to hold her and tell her she's my princess," said Claudia Ramos, mother of missing 3-year-old Breeann Rodriguez.

Ramos, along with Breeann's father, Edgar Rodriguez, are pleading with the public for information about what happened to their little girl. Breeann disappeared Saturday while riding her bike outside her home in Senath.

"I just want my little girl back," said a tearful Edgar Rodriguez.

Three days into the search, the Federal Bureau of Investigations remains on the case. Along with the FBI, Senath Police, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Kennett Police and the Bootheel Drug Task Force are searching for the child.

2 pieces of evidence linked to missing pre-schooler

Police are searching an area south of Senath after finding two pieces of evidence linked to missing 3-year-old Breeann Rodriguez.

Police found a physical piece of evidence around 7 p.m. Tuesday. They found another piece of evidence Wednesday morning.

The FBI would give not further details on what they found, but did say crews are searching south of Senath with helicopters and dog teams.

FBI and Senath Police are looking for an older model white van in connection with the disappearance of 3-year-old Breeann Rodriguez.

Breeann was riding her bike with her brother around noon on Saturday. Her brother went inside for a bit and came out to find her and her pink bike with training wheels gone.

SENATH, MO (KAIT) – Senath Police are telling Region 8 News that the evidence found in a field south of Senath could produce DNA, but they still won't release what the evidence is.

According to Senath Police Chief Omar Karnes, they have sent the evidence to the state's crime lab to try and get DNA. Karnes said they put a rush order on the evidence, and hope to have an answer in about 2 days.

Region 8's Brandi Hodges interviewed Chief Karnes who said he thinks the evidence found is a bad sign in the investigation, but wouldn't elaborate further. Karnes also said he doesn't believe the evidence was in the filed the first time it was searched.

Region 8 News also spoke with Breeann Rodriguez's parents who feel this is a positive sign that evidence is being found, and they believe Breeann is still alive and well.

Police, FBI, and volunteers found two pieces of physical evidence in a field south of Senath in the past 24 hours.

Police continue to be tight lipped about the evidence found, only saying it is physical evidence and not elaborating on what was found.

The first piece of evidence was found Tuesday night around 7pm, but it was too dark to conduct any kind of search.

The second piece of evidence was found around 11:30am Wednesday morning.

Investigators are asking for information about a white van. A white cargo van was seen in the area just days prior to Breeann disappearing. The full-size older model van may or may not have a ladder mounted in the back.

SENATH, Mo. -- Authorities have come across three items of interest in the last 24-hours in the case of Breeann Rodriguez, 3, who went missing on Saturday.

"We have some physical items of interest," Karnes said. "[I can't elaborate] at this time exactly what they are because they are not in direct relation with the case."

Of the items, Karnes said one was found Tuesday afternoon and two were found earlier today, Wednesday, Aug. 10. Karnes said the items cannot be directly connected or directly not connected with the case at this time.

"We can't rule them out," Karnes said.

When asked what lead to the items of interest, the police official said, "Some of our searches happened upon a piece of evidence and contacted me. We secured the area and found some more."

The police chief said the items found are a negative sign...but he thinks she is alive.

Does that not seem like an odd statement? If they found items that will lead them to her and she is alive, I would think it would be a positive sign.

Senath, MO (KSDK) - The FBI announced Thursday two bicycle training wheels believed to be from the bicycle that disappeared with pre-schooler Breeann Rodriguez were found Wednesday approximately two miles southeast of Breeann's home.

Breeann's father has seen the wheels and believes they belong to his daughter because of how he manipulated them to be the right height for her on her bike.

They were found in an area with heavy brush on County Highway 568 east of Buffalo Ditch in Dunklin County. Authorities are continuing to comb the area for additional clues.

SENATH, MO (KAIT) – It has now been five days since a missing 3-year-old Senath girl was last seen. Neighbors say they last saw Breeann Rodriguez riding on her bike. Now officials are saying the training wheels from her bike may have been found. The white and black training wheels are now at the state crime lab. Police Chief Omar Karnes said they aren't sure if the training wheels are from Breeann's bicycle, but they aren't ruling it out.

"All our leads here are showing this could have been a random snatch," said Karnes.

After days of searching every inch of Senath Karnes is more convinced a little girl could not have gone far on her own. The discovery of training wheels earlier this week is helping solidify that theory.

TODD BONACKI, REPORTER, KZIM NEWS RADIO: That`s exactly right, Nancy. I tell you what, here in the heartland of America, the worst nightmare of parents could possibly experience is continuing, chilling evidence found in the last 48 hours just breaking now late today. They are confirming two training wheels have been found and Nancy, we understand Breeann`s father says he`s absolutely sure that these were the ones attached to his little girl`s bike when it disappeared with her Saturday morning at 11:30 in the morning. He says he knows for sure that he manipulated these two training wheels to fit and form her bike to fit her height. And he knows these are an absolute perfect match.

GRACE: With us, Todd Bonacki, KZIM. And speaking of Breeann`s father he is with us tonight, Edgar Rodriguez, father of Brianne.

Edgar, Thank you for being with us. Explain to me how you know for sure that these training wheels are the ones attached, that were attached to her body?

EDGAR RODRIGEZ, BREEANN`S FATHER: Well, we bought her the bike and I put the training wheels on. When she would ride it outside, any type of indentation on the ground the middle wheel would spin because it was supported by the training wheels. And I keep telling myself that I was going to take a wrench and loosen one up. But I never did and one time, I was outside with my daughter and I got upset because she kept having trouble with it. So I told her to get off, and I bent one of the wheel and that way the bike wouldn`t be so wobbly. It`d be supported more on the middle wheel.

And when they told me about it, I told them that they told me how I could identify this training wheel and they showed me one. It had no bend in it. No bend whatsoever. And I told the FBI at that time if that had a bend on the top part of it, the other one should. I didn`t see the other training wheel for about 20 minutes later. And that`s when the FBI pretty much realized and they didn`t have to show it to me. But they did. And that`s when they showed it to me. I 100 percent know. (Inaudible)

GRACE: Right. Mr. Rodriguez, let me ask you. Why do you believe that you and the child`s mother failed your polygraphs?

RODRIGUEZ: I don`t know. Honestly. Honestly, when my wife went in there first to do the polygraph and she failed it. I mean, of course as a father when somebody tells you somebody fails a polygraph, it automatically raises a doubt. You know?

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

GRACE: The training wheels apparently removed from this little girl`s bike found discarded in a corn field. With me, her father who struggled to get those training wheels on to the bike is convinced these are the training wheels.

To Mr. Edgar Rodriguez, you were explaining your theory as to why you and your wife failed the poly.

RODRIGUEZ: Yes. I mean, I don`t know. I mean to be completely honest with you; I mean I really don`t believe that we did fail it. When they told me, I thought it might have been like some kind of tool the FBI uses to squeeze every drop of information relevant or not you can give them. They just say we failed it. I don`t know why.

GRACE: Mr. Rodriguez, it speaks to volumes to me that you are coming on with us tonight and answering your questions as well as the viewers` question. I want to get out the tip line. 866-371-tips.

Alexis, what about the white van?

ALEXIS WEED, PRODUCER, THE NANCY GRACE SHOW: Police are looking for a white van that is believed to have been seen around Breeann`s home a couple of days before she went missing on Saturday. This van is said to be a cargo style white van. They don`t know the make, the model, the year of this van. But it said to have no windows on the side but perhaps a ladder leading up the back that would access the roof of that van.

GRACE: Everyone, I want to confirm that the parents in this case have been totally cooperative with police. Even going out and searching for the little girl themselves.

Senath shows support for Rodriguez family with candlelight vigil

SENATH, Mo. -- In the City of Senath on Wednesday evening, local residents came together as a community to show support for three-year old Breeann Rodriguez' family.
A candlelight vigil was held at 7:30 p.m., in Williamson Park with an estimated several hundred people in attendance.

All had gathered to pray for the safe return of three-year old Breeann Rodriguez.

The stage in the park was adorned in yellow ribbons as were lampposts in the park. Also adorning the stage were lit candles, giving light in the darkness.

Mayor Joe Lane first addressed the audience. He told the audience of how as a community, "if we stick together, we can face anything that comes along, with God's help."

We have posted the sensitivity indicators found in the statements of Edgar Rodriquez, including deception and an issue of sensitivity with the word "bike" that is concerning.

We have also seen that in his timeline for Breeann's disappearance that he is deliberately withholding information about the area near 10AM.

That's interesting, Ann.

Looks like there are several indicators. Some, I might judge as not speaking English very well, (saying "told" instead of "said", etc. We have a lot of non-English speaking citizens in our town, [as I'm sure everywhere else does, as well] and I know that they get some words mixed up. For instance, a lot of customers that I dealt with before I quit work would come through the door and say, "I'm sorry" instead of correctly using the phrase "Excuse me...") but a lot of the other indicators make you wonder.

I hope that the parents are not involved in her disappearance.

Being that Texas borders with Mexico, we have a lot of Mexicans in our area and some can barely speak English. To some, English is their second language.

For example, some will say, he for she, i.e., "He is at the store" when they intend to say, "She is at the store."

I hope Breeann's parents are not involved in Breeann's disappearance. Something is very hinky with Breeann's disappearance.

FBI to distribute CHILD I.D. Kits at Senath

SENATH, Mo.-- Volunteers with the FBI St. Louis Citizens' Academy Alumni Association (FBISTLCAAA) are spearheading an effort to help the FBI, the Senath Police Department, and the Dunklin County Sheriff's office to distribute free CHILD I.D. Kits in Senath, Missouri where 3-year-old Breeann Rodriguez recently disappeared.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the First Assembly Church gymnasium on August 13, 2011, located at 601 South State Street.

According to FBI spokesperson, Rebecca Wu, the kits use a clear inkless solution to produce the fingerprints without the messy black ink and allow parents to collect and store a saliva sample for DNA. Once the kit is completed, parents maintain it at home. Parents can carry a wallet card which has a spot for a fingerprint and a current photo of the child. The information WILL NOT go into any law enforcement database.
