OKLAHOMA CITY -- Sean Brooks pleaded guilty on Friday to a murder charge for the death of his daughter, Serenity Deal.
A judge sentenced Brooks to life in prison with the possibility of parole. He waived his right to appeal.
Police arrested Sean Brooks, 31, on June 6 in connection with the death of his 5-year-old daughter.
Child welfare workers wanted Brooks to have custody despite bruises, black eyes and cuts to her body, the Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth said in a report released in June.

According to investigators, Deal's injuries included cuts and bruises to her head, face, arms, legs, hips and stomach. Some of the injuries were new and some of them were old.
Police said they found blood in a bathroom, master bedroom and on the girl's mattress.

The article states that on Jan 4, DHS was informed that while visiting her father, Serenity had a 1" scab on her head, a black eye and a bruised rib cage after running into a door (according to her father)

Another report on Jan 24, again, while visiting her father, she had 2 black eyes and part of her face was swollen. (According to the loser father, he "accidentally" dropped his daughter) Be sure to read the article to see how the hospital report reads.

According to the report, Deal ended up living with her father after her mother was accused of molesting a relative.

Really? This poor little girl never had a chance in life.

In the report, Deal was allowed to sleep in the same bed with her mother and sibling's father, a convicted sex offender.

On June 4, 2011, DHS said it was notified that Deal was "gruesomely beat," according to the report. According to the document, Deal was dead for several hours before Brooks called 911.

DHS continues to investigate the case and the conduct of welfare workers involved. ya think? Maybe they should be brought up on murder charges for knowingly putting Serenity back into the hands of her murderer.

I guess I'll never understand the mistakes these social workers make...Over worked, underpaid and an office drastically understaffed...Workers not wanting to go the extra mile for their clients to ensure their safety...Who is a kid to trust when they can't even trust the ones that are supposed to be looking out for their welfare???

I know, Estee, it's crazy. Serious changes need to be made. No child should be placed back into dangerous homes. You'd think their past mistakes would be proof enough that something isn't working.
