Police in North Carolina are searching for the body of an Ohio mom after her ex-boyfriend confessed to his brother that he strangled her during a vacation trip.
So far police have been unable to find any sign of Lynn Jackenheimer, 33, or her ex-boyfriend Nathan Summerfield.
Summerfield, 27, has been called a "person of interest" in Jackenheimer's disappearance.
The former couple spent the week vacationing in Nags Head, N.C., with their 3-year-old son and Jackenheimer's 13-year-old daughter.

ASHLAND, Ohio — The brother of a man who authorities consider a person of interest in the disappearance of a 33-year-old Ohio woman called police to say that his sibling told him he strangled her.
In a 911 recording provided by the Ashland County Sheriff's Office, 31-year-old Jacob Summerfield told an emergency dispatcher that his brother, whom he identifies as Nate Summerfield, returned without his ex-girlfriend from vacation in North Carolina.

ASHLAND, Ohio — There were prayers and tears for a Northeast Ohio mother who went missing while on vacation with her boyfriend. Investigators say he admitted to killing her and is now on the run.
“Nate, if you can find it in your heart, for your son, please let him know where is mother is…that’s all we ask.” pleaded Tasha Johnson, the missing woman’s sister.
Friends and family of Lynn Jackenheimer, 33, held a candlelight vigil Monday evening at Goodfellows Pizzeria and Sports Pub in Ashland where she is a bartender and server.

Richert said Summerfield dropped the children off at a family member's house before he allegedly went into hiding. The children, however, have been unable to assist police in the investigation.
"The 13-year-old is autistic and the 3-year-old is, well, 3 years old," Richert said. "The children were kept in the dark. [Summerfield] had told them, 'Mommy went for a walk and we'll see mommy when we get home.' They were kept in the dark and have not been a lot of help to us."
According to Richert, Summerfield and Jackenheimer were involved in at least one domestic violence incident.
In 2009, Summerfield violently choked Jackenheimer. His arrest warrant also refers to an earlier incident, where he locked her out of their residence after an argument. She was nude at the time, according to the warrant. Summerfield was ultimately found guilty of domestic violence and sentenced to a 60-day suspended jail sentence and one-year probation.

Authorities in North Carolina continued searching Tuesday for Lynn A. Jackenheimer. Meanwhile, detectives in Ashland County spent the day developing leads in an attempt to find Nathan J. Summerfield.
Authorities released some information about the pair's travels last week to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and Summerfield's activities when he returned to Ashland Sunday without Jackenheimer.
The Ashland County Sheriff's Office confirmed reports that Summerfield's cell phone had been found Sunday in Ashland. Capt. Carl Richert also said surveillance photos were obtained showing Summerfield's car near a local ATM at about 10 a.m. Sunday.

They said they can no longer just sit around and wait.
"We feel like we need to help. We need to be out there looking for her," said friend Naomi Jackson.
Jackenheimer was last heard from on the morning of the Fourth of July.
Deputies have been searching Dare County, N.C. for the missing mother and now the family is joining the effort. They are traveling more than 600 miles to help search for her.

Family members said that a search of Summerfield’s home turned up computer searches for plane and bus tickets, leading them to believe that Summerfield was trying to find another way for the children to get home from North Carolina.

ASHLAND -- Lynn Jackenheimer's family feels closer to her after arriving in North Carolina to help in the search, a family friend said Thursday.
"They believe with all their hearts that she is in North Carolina," Mandy Schonauer said.
Last week, Jackenheimer, 33, went to the Outer Banks with her on-again, off-again boyfriend Nathan Summerfield, their 3-year-old son and her 13-year-old daughter. She did not return with them. Summerfield's brother called police to say Summerfield told him he had strangled the woman.

Friday evening, Lynn Jackenheimer’s mother led a group that left for North Carolina.
Lora Johnson, her sister Tammy and three of Lynn’s close friends flew out of Akron-Canton airport on their way to the Outer Banks in North Carolina.
“Hoping to find her, it is just as plan as that, and anything, just hoping to find her or answers,” said Johnson.

But nine of Lynn Jackenheimer’s acquaintances, including her step-father, sister, and brother, said they are not giving up and will continue their own search.
A vacation rental company is providing Jackenheimer’s family and friends with free housing on Hatteras Island for as long as they wish to stay.

Nate allegedly admits to killing Lynn, how he killed her, how he disposed of her body, didn't harm the kids and takes off. Why not also tell is brother where her body could be found? I wonder if it is possible she is still alive and Nate has kidnapped her? The murder story being a distraction? Hopeful thinking maybe she is alive.

Authorities in two states pressed a manhunt today for Nathan Summerfield, the prime suspect in the murder of Ohio mother Lynn Jackenheimer, whose body was recently found in North Carolina.
"We had a couple reported sightings in Columbus last night on the east side and then again this morning, but none of that has been confirmed. We have not come up with any solid leads yet," Capt. Carl Richert, of the Ashland County Sheriff's Department in Ohio, told The Huffington Post.

Surely these people understand the situation - whether or not they had anything at all to do with Lynn's murder, their own son is a fugitive and the prime suspect in the case. Also, the courts do not look favorably upon splitting up siblings. Since they are the biological grandparents of only one of the children (is that correct?), and Lynn's are both of the children's biological grandparents, it would seem most likely that her parents would retain custody.

ASHLAND -- Nathan Summerfield's parents have filed a motion in Juvenile Court to be included in child custody proceedings. However, contrary to media reports, they have not filed for custody of a 3-year-old boy that Summerfield and Lynn Jackenheimer had together.
"Summerfield's parents have filed a motion to intervene," Juvenile Court Judge Damian Vercillo said on Tuesday. "We don't know whether they are going to ask for custody or visitation."

Last week, Summerfield's parents, John and Sandy Summerfield, filed a motion to intervene. A hearing is scheduled for Aug. 27.
Vercillo explained that it is common for grandparents in child custody situations to file motions to intervene.

Investigators continue to search for murder suspect

The Dare County Sheriff’s Office says they are continuing their portion of the investigation into the murder of an Ohio woman earlier this month on Hatteras Island.
According to a news release issued Monday by Chief Deputy Steve Hoggard, the United States Marshal’s Service is heading up the search in Ohio for Nathan Summerfield.
Attempts to locate Summerfield have been unsuccessful as of Monday, according to Hoggard.
