Man Suspected Of Killing Ashland Co. Mom Arrested

ASHLAND, Ohio --
A man wanted in connection with the murder of an Ashland County mother has been arrested, according to the U.S. marshals.

At about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Summerfield was taken into custody at the Legacy Inn at 810 High St. in Wadsworth in Medina County.

According to authorities, a number of tips led them to the hotel room.

Investigators said he checked in under a fictitious name and had been staying at the hotel for one day.

Officials said he was not armed when he was arrested

The family of Lynn Jackenheimer learned the news Wednesday that the man wanted for her murder was finally in custody.

Lynn's mother, Lora Johnson, said the past several weeks have been an emotional ride for their family. Wednesday, they learned murder suspect, Nathan Summerfield, had been apprehended.

The 27-year-old Ashland man is wanted in the July 4, stabbing and strangulation death of his estranged girlfriend, Lynn Jackenheimer, who was found dead in North Carolina.

Johnson said of his arrest, "It doesn't make my pain any easier for my daughter. But, we can rest, she can rest. It's a good day...it's a good day."

Extradition hearing set for murder suspect Nathan Summerfield

(WOIO) - An extradition hearing for murder suspect Nathan Summerfield will be held on Friday morning.

It was revealed during a news conference that Summerfield had grown a full beard while on the run. He was not armed at the time of his arrest, and put up no resistance.

The U.S. Marshal also said that if anyone was harboring Summerfield over the course of the last several weeks, they could face federal charges.

Nate Summerfield Waives Extradition Hearing

MEDINA COUNTY, Ohio — In a process that took around five minutes, Nate Summerfield waived his right to an extradition hearing, clearing the way for his transportation to North Carolina to face murder charges in the death of Lynn Jackenheimer.

Summerfield appeared before Medina County Common Pleas Court Judge James Kimbler and signed a waiver clearing the way for his extradition to North Carolina.

It is not yet known when Summerfield will be transported south by authorities.

MEDINA - Murder suspect Nathan Summerfield is expected to be in the Dare County Detention Center in North Carolina this weekend at the earliest.

Summerfield was in Medina County Common Pleas Court Friday for a brief extradition hearing. The Ashland man faces murder charges in North Carolina after the body of his estranged girlfriend, Lynn Jackenheimer, was found July 14 in a cul-de-sac on Hatteras Island, N.C. Authorities say she was strangled and stabbed July 3.

Handcuffed and shackled, he showed no emotion as Judge James L. Kimbler explained the procedure. Summerfield was seated next to his attorney, Lee Winchell of Rittman, and signed the paperwork stating he would go to North Carolina voluntarily to stand trial.

DARE COUNTY, N.C. — Dare County officials released the booking photographs of the Ashland man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend while on vacation.

The pictures give the public a first look at Nate Summerfield, 27, after he was served with a warrant late Friday, charging him with the murder of Lynn Jackenheimer.

At that time, Dare County sheriff’s deputies transported him from the Medina County jail to the Dare County Detention Center.

ASHLAND, Ohio - The parents of murder suspect Nate Summerfield have filed a motion to intervene in the custody hearing of their 3-year-old grandson, the child of slain Lynn Jackenheimer and imprisoned Nate Summerfield.

John and Sandy Summerfield were expected in court Monday morning, Aug. 27 at 9 a.m.

This, after Jackenheimer's parents, Raymond and Lora Johnson, filed for custody of both children.

A hearing is scheduled for Sept. 25 in Juvenile Court.

MANSFIELD -- The grand jury is expected to consider the charges against murder suspect Nathan Summerfield of Ashland on Monday in Dare County District Court, N.C.

Steve Hoggard, chief deputy with the Dare County Sheriff's Office, said he expects to issue a news release Monday after Summerfield's case is heard.

Summerfield made his initial appearance Aug. 21 in Dare County District Court before Judge Edgar Barnes.

Summerfield is accused of strangling and stabbing his estranged girlfriend, Lynn Jackenheimer, while on vacation in the Outerbanks in July.

Nathan Summerfield, 27, a medical sleep technician from Ashland, Ohio, was arrested in August on a first-degree murder charge after Lynn Jackenheimer’s body was found in a plastic bag off an isolated cul-de-sac in Frisco.

Police records reveal that when a previous estranged girlfriend threatened to call her parents after repeatedly telling Summerfield to leave her room, he put his fist through two windows and slammed a door so hard it jammed shut.

As he left her house, he kicked out the window of her car. He was later arrested and charged with criminal damaging/endangering and criminal trespass.

Summerfield was then 18 years old.

ASHLAND -- During an 11-hour-long music benefit to help murder victim Lynn Jackenheimer's children, Good Fellows Pizzeria and Pub on Claremont Avenue filled with Ashland residents who dropped by Saturday to show their support.

The 33-year-old Ashland woman disappeared in July while on vacation in North Carolina. Members of her community were dismayed July 14 to learn that her body had been recovered.

Two children, 13-year-old Ciara and 3-year-old Leland, were left behind. Nathan J. Summerfield, 27, a former Ashland High School football star who had been Jackenheimer's boyfriend, faces first-degree murder charges in Dare County, N.C.

DARE, N.C. – After 29 months, the Nathan Summerfield case has been resolved.

Summerfield was sentenced Monday to 30 to 39 years in prison after pleading guilty to two kidnapping counts and a second-degree murder charge in the death of Ashland resident Lynn Jackenheimer.

Summerfield, who was scheduled for trial Feb. 2, entered the plea during a special hearing in Dare County Superior Court in North Carolina.
