Another Josh Powell-type triple homicide. Absolutely heartbreaking. In my opinion, there is not enough justice in the justice system for these kinds of horrific revenge crimes.

The girls pulled him upstairs to show him their things. Their baby sitter told investigators she followed later, hugged the girls goodbye and left them in Amara's bedroom with their father.

At 3:30 p.m., Jessica Schaffhausen answered her phone and heard her ex-husband's voice: "You can come home now, because I killed the kids."

Police found each girl in her own bed, a blanket drawn up to her neck, dried blood on her face.

KZ, I am sickened to read about this case, & yes, it does indeed sound like shades of Josh Powell.

I guess he was too spineless to kill himself but I am sure the POS got a real kick out of breaking the heart of his ex-wife by calling her.

I am suprised he didn't light a match since the article said there was some type of fluid all over the house, I wonder why he decided not to light the match.

KZ, upon reading further, it may have been an accident that gasoline had been turned over in the basement of the home & the fumes had escaped & were allover the house. It isn't clear.

Another link on the tragedy:

Also, I have read that LE is asking for the public's help in locating the Murderer's lap top, they think he disposed of it before turning himself in.

I know it's 2 million, but I'm astounded he would be given any bail at all.
How did was he allowed supervised custody and no protective order of he had threatened the Moms life?
It seems like another deadbeat Dad angry he has to pay to support kids that are no longer "his". It's too common.
Crazy.

Joint legal custody. I don't think there is child support when that is the situation. No protective order because the mom never sought one. This looks like a purely vindictive triple murder.

Online court records show the couple divorced in January, and Aaron Schaffhausen had been living in Minot, N.D. The couple filed for divorce jointly. They were awarded joint legal custody of the girls, although Jessica Schaffhausen had primary physical custody and had control over health care, education and other decisions.

Police also reported a harassment incident this past March where Aaron Schaffhausen had allegedly threatened to harm at least one of the children.

The Star Tribune article says their divorce was final in January and he had to pay 1,353 monthly for child support and take on almost 200k in debt.
So I imagine in a way that if she fought on custody or got a protective order she'd be likely not to see a penny. Maybe I'm judgmental but of someone threatened myself or kids, I'd put some serious distance between them and me and mine.
Unfortunately, she appears to have not believed him.
I guess no one likes to think that someone they once loved is capable of such a horrible and cruel thing.

If ever, imo, the Death Penalty was needed as punishment for such a a heinous crime, this case is certainly one of them, the multiple murder of children as a means to be vindictive towards the children's mother makes me so angry. In a perfect world, these sick twists would only take their own lives, but time & time again, we see these loons take the lives of the most innocent.

I understand there is no DP in that State & I too am suprised this sorry POS is given a 2 Million dollar bond. Of course he can't raise the monies I assume, but he doesn't deserve to ever be free again & imo, doesn't even deserve to live.

I wonder what LE is looking for on the computer he disposed of.

Wis. dad responsible for killing 3 daughters, jury rules

AP 8:10 p.m. EDT April 16, 2013

HUDSON, Wis. (AP) — A jury on Tuesday rejected an insanity defense by a Wisconsin father who admitted killing his three young daughters last July, ruling that the man had a mental defect but still understood what he was doing was wrong.

Aaron Schaffhausen, 35, had earlier pleaded guilty in St. Croix County Circuit Court to three counts of first-degree intentional homicide and one count of attempted arson. But he had maintained he was not responsible for killing 11-year-old Amara, 8-year-old Sophie, and 5-year-old Cecilia because of a mental illness.

Jurors deliberated for about 3½ hours before reaching their verdict.

Aaron Schaffhausen sentenced to life in prison without release

By Pam Louwagie Star Tribune  July 16, 2013 — 10:23am

HUDSON, Wis. – Aaron Schaffhausen sat stoic and motionless as a judge on Monday handed him the maximum sentence for killing his three daughters.

The 35-year-old construction worker didn’t appear to flinch as he was sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison without the hope of ever getting out.

In a symbolic gesture, St. Croix County Circuit Court Judge Howard Cameron also ordered that Schaffhausen serve his three mandatory life-in-prison sentences one after another — not at the same time.

River Falls: Legal wrangling continues in Schaffhausen case

RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- A Wisconsin state assistant attorney general argues in a newly filed brief that a court of appeals should deny Aaron Schaffhausen's request for a second sanity trial on his triple-homicide conviction.

In March 2013 Schaffhausen, 37, pleaded guilty to the murders of his daughters Amara, Sophie and Cecilia in July 2012 in River Falls. He also pleaded guilty to attempted arson for planning to burn down the home of his ex-wife where the girls lived.
