Police have confirmed a leading CEO and his wife were murdered before their $2 million home in the affluent district of Northwest D.C. was set alight on Thursday afternoon.

Savvas Savopoulos, 46, and Amy Savopoulos, 47, were confirmed dead on Friday. Homicide detectives believe their 10-year-old son Philip and 57-year-old housekeeper Veralicia Figurera were also killed in the blaze.

At least three of the four victims had blunt force head wounds and smelled of gasoline, it was revealed on Friday as homicide and arson experts continue to investigate the $2 million property, which is a short walk from Joe Biden's residence on Embassy Row.

Savopoulos is a Greek American and the president and CEO of American Iron Works, the leading manufacturer of building works in the United States. The couple's teenage daughters Abigail, 19, and Katerina, 16, were at boarding school at the time. Philip did not go to school on Thursday.

In a press conference, police issued a fresh appeal for witnesses who saw the family's blue 2008 Porsche 911 leaving the property on Thursday, and added that they believe the suspect drove the car on Wednesday as well.

Police chief Cathy Lanier said autopsies are still ongoing and there is still plenty of evidence to gather.

She added that there remain no signs of forced entry and it is not clear whether the house was ransacked.

Earlier, investigators told NBC4 one of the victims was bleeding from the head and smelled of gasoline when medics took them to hospital, while other evidence also points to arson.

Police refused to identify the victims as they launched an appeal to find the person who drove the family's Porsche out of the property at 10.30am. The car was found abandoned nearby hours later.

On Friday, authorities were asking the public for any information that could help the investigation into the mysterious deaths.

One neighbor told the Washington Post that he had not seen anything unusual at the home. A grass cutting crew had been there that morning as usual and the couple's dogs were in the yard at the time of the fire, he said.

He did see firefighters smash windows and bring out three bodies on stretchers, he said, including the bodies of a woman and a child.

Savvas Savopoulos was the president and CEO of American Iron Works. His 10-year-old son has tentatively been identified as one of the four victims.

A corporate executive, his wife, their 10-year-old son and a housekeeper were murdered inside of the family's multimillion-dollar Washington, D.C. home before it was set ablaze Thursday, police revealed Friday.

Homeowners Savvas Savopoulos, 46, and his wife Amy Savopoulos, 47, were identified as two of the four victims — three of whom suffered stab wounds or blunt-force injuries, Police Chief Cathy Lanier said.

Those injuries were sustained before the large brick home — located blocks away from Vice President Joe Biden's official residence — was mysteriously torched that afternoon, Lanier said.

Police have said nothing so far about suspects or a possible motive.

Philip Savopoulos, 10, is believed to be one of four victims, police said.

The other two victims found inside have been tentatively identified as the couple's 10-year-old son, Philip, and a 57-year-old housekeeper from Maryland, Veralicia Figurera, she said.

Philip attended St. Albans School, a private school adjacent to the cathedral.

The couple are survived by two teenage daughters, who are both at boarding schools outside of D.C. Abigail Savopoulos is scheduled to graduate next week from Mercerburg Academy in Pennsylvania, and her younger sister Katerina is a junior at Peddie School, close to Princeton, N.J.

Couple reportedly told housekeeper not to come before being killed in DC mansion (Video)

Published May 18, 2015  ·  FoxNews.com

A couple who were found dead inside their multimillion-dollar Washington, D.C., mansion that was set ablaze Thursday reportedly called and texted a housekeeper to not come to work that day.

The corporate executive, his wife, their 10-year-old son and another housekeeper were killed inside their home on Thursday afternoon and the fire was intentionally set, authorities say.

On Wednesday night, Savvas Savopoulos left a voicemail for one of the housekeepers, saying she should not come in Thursday because his wife Amy was sick, ABC News reported Monday.

~Snipped~

"It was something very suspicious because I felt his voice was really tense," Gutierrez said in Spanish. "And it was different than what he had said to me before."

Gutierrez said she called Amy Savopoulos after hearing the message "to see if she was OK, but she never answered."

Gutierrez also knew Veralicia Figueroa, the housekeeper who was found dead. Gutierrez told police that Savvas Savopoulos left a message saying Figueroa was staying overnight to help as his son was home with an injury.

Gutierrez said she had never known Figueroa to stay overnight.

"Never, never did she stay over," Gutierrez said.

People behind D.C. murders and house fire likely knew victims, kept them bound for a day: report (VIDEO)

BY  Jason Silverstein  / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS / Published: Monday, May 18, 2015, 11:25 PM / Updated: Monday, May 18, 2015, 11:37 PM

Washington D.C. police think more than one person is responsible for the baffling deaths of an affluent couple, their son and their housekeeper last week — and those people probably knew the victims well.

Investigators believe the killers had easy access to the multimillion dollar home of Savvas Savopoulos, and that the killers kept Savvas, wife Amy, 10-year-old son Philip and housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa bound and threatened for one day before they all died last Thursday, NBC Washington reported, citing unnamed sources.

A D.C. police spokesman declined to comment on that theory to the Daily News, citing the ongoing investigation.

Victims in Woodley Park Slayings Were Held Overnight, Sources Say (Video)

By  Pat Collins and Megan Fitzgerald

Investigators believe more than one person was likely involved in the shocking murders of a married couple, their 10-year-old son and their housekeeper, whose bodies were found after a fire was set at the family's upscale D.C. home last week, sources say.

It's likely that the killers had knowledge of the family and how they lived their day-to-day lives, sources said. There was no sign of forced entry at the home.

~Snipped~

Investigators believe it's likely that the killers gained access to the home Wednesday and kept the victims bound and threatened through Thursday afternoon, when Savvas Savopoulos gave them what they were looking for, sources said.

Officials: $40,000 dropped off at D.C. home as intruder held family captive

As an intruder held a family and their housekeeper captive inside a Northwest Washington home last Thursday, a man dropped off a package containing $40,000, according to law enforcement officials familiar with the investigation.

Hours later, the multi-million dollar house was on fire, and Savvas Savopoulos, 46, his wife Amy, 47, their 10-year-old son Philip, and the housekeeper, Veralicia Figueroa, 57, were dead inside. When firefighters arrived, the cash was gone, as was a blue Porsche owned by the family.

~Snipped~

The man who dropped off the money worked as an assistant for Savvas Savopoulos, who owned or was involved in several businesses, according to the officials and police documents. It is not clear whether the employee knew what was in the package.

Police documents obtained by The Washington Post show that the assistant had been helping Savopoulos prepare for the planned opening of a new martial arts studio in Chantilly. The employee was at a hardware store near the studio from 11:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday, May 14, and was still in Virginia when calls came later that afternoon about the fire 30 miles away in the District, according to the documents.

Savvas Savopoulos’ 10-Year-Old Son Tortured For Money, Killers May Have Ordered Pizza

A disturbing detail has emerged as detectives probe the killing of Washington, D.C. businessman Savvas Savopoulos and his family last week; his 10-year-old son may have been tortured in order to extract money from his wealthy father.

The detail came from a detective on the case and was reported by WUSA9. No elaboration was given as to why the officer believed Phillip Savopoulos was tortured.

$40,000 cash reportedly delivered to DC mansion on day family was murdered (Video)

Published May 20, 2015  ·   FoxNews.com

A package containing $40,000 in cash was reportedly delivered to the Washington, D.C., mansion of an executive who was found murdered along with his wife, son and a housekeeper in the burning home just blocks from Vice President Joe Biden's residence.

The cash, reportedly to fund the opening of a martial arts center in Chantilly, Va., is the latest potential clue in the grisly mystery involving the deaths of  Savvas Savopoulos, 46, his wife, Amy Savopoulos, 47; their 10-year-old son Philip and a housekeeper, Veralicia Figueroa, 57. Authorities declined to confirm the report, but Nelitza Gutierrez, the family's longtime housekeeper who was not working the day of the murders, told Fox affiliate WTTG the money was scheduled for delivery on May 14. Authorities believe the family and Figueroa may have been held for several hours before they were killed.

The couple and Figueroa were all found dead in chairs, doused with gasoline after having sustained multiple stab wounds, sources close to the investigation told the station. The couple's son, 10-year-old Philip Savopoulos, was found in his bed burned beyond recognition and with lacerations to his body. Detectives told WUSA the boy may have been tortured by his killers in an attempt to get money out of his father.

Daron Dylon Wint is the first suspect for the quadruple murders in a posh D.C., police said.

A breakthrough in the mysterious murder of four people in a posh Washington D.C. home might have been delivered Wednesday night — thanks to pizza.

D.C. police announced they have a first suspect for the quadruple murders, whom they identified by matching him to DNA found on the crust of a Domino’s pizza that was delivered to the house at night while the soon-to-be victims were captive inside.

The suspect is Daron Dylon Wint, 34, from Maryland, and he is wanted for first-degree murder while armed, according to the Washington Post. Police reportedly do not know his whereabouts, and any possible connection he had to the victims has not been revealed. Police have offered a $25,000 award for more info on him.

Md, man suspected in killings of four people in Northwest Washington

By Peter Hermann, Keith L. Alexander and Clarence Williams May 20 at 11:45 PM

D.C. police said late Wednesday that they have identified a suspect in the killings of Savvas Savopoulos, his wife, young son and housekeeper, who authorities believe were held captive in the family’s Northwest Washington home.

Police said they had obtained a warrant for the arrest of Daron Dylon Wint, who they said is 34 and is from Maryland. They said they do not know his whereabouts.

The stunning break in the case came after police matched Wint to DNA found on the crust of a Domino’s pizza that had been ordered to the house the night of May 13, as the victims were being held, according to three law enforcement officials with knowledge of the investigation

D.C. police on Thursday said the suspect in the quadruple slaying in Upper Northwest Washington at one point worked for the victims’ family business and is believed to be in New York.

Police continued to search for Daron Dylon Wint, a suspect in the killings of Savvas Savopoulos, his wife, son and housekeeper in their home.

Wint, 34, is charged in a warrant with first-degree murder while armed. Authorities have issued a reward up to $25,000 for information leading to his arrest and conviction. Wint is believed to still be armed and possibly hiding in the Brooklyn area of New York, officials said.

Cops search for suspect in killings of 4 in Washington in Brooklyn neighborhood

Updated May 21, 2015 6:31 PM
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON - Police and federal agents searched in Brooklyn and elsewhere Thursday for a welder suspected in the slayings of a wealthy construction executive, his wife, their 10-year-old son and a housekeeper inside their Washington mansion last week.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said "just about every law enforcement officer across the country" is on the lookout for Daron Dylon Wint, 34, a native of Guyana and former Marine now wanted on charges of first-degree murder in the killings of his former employer, Savvas Savopoulos.

Wint was spotted in Brooklyn Wednesday night, and investigators were questioning Wint's girlfriend there, but his whereabouts remained unclear, according to two law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.

A law enforcement official familiar with the NYPD activity said Thursday night that police in the city "had no reason to believe he was here now."

The girlfriend, who was picked up at a restaurant in the Canarsie area and interviewed by detectives, has been cooperative, the official said.

Daron Dylon Wint, 34, is believed to be in the Brooklyn area.

City cops fear the deranged fugitive wanted in the quadruple murder of a wealthy Washington family returned to New York to make a final stand, sources told the Daily News.

The Brooklyn manhunt for Daron Dylon Wint landed his girlfriend in police custody Thursday, and she put cops on edge by relating the 34-year-old suspect wanted to turn himself in, sources said.

"We don’t know if he’s going to do it in a blaze of glory or just quietly call up and surrender,” said one police source. “We’re preparing for every eventuality. We don’t think he’s mentally fit.”

Tracking down the runaway Wint was “the No. 1 priority,” according to the police source.

While Wint remained on the lam after the slaughter inside a $4.5 million mansion, Washington police pinged his girlfriend’s phone and tracked her down, the sources said.

Suspect in quadruple killings captured in D.C., police say

By Peter Hermann, Lynh Bui and Dan Morse May 21 at 11:51 PM

Police apprehended the suspect in the gruesome killings of three members of a Northwest Washington family and its housekeeper Thursday night in Northeast Washington, according to D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier.

The suspect, Daron Dylon Wint, 34, is a former employee of an iron supply company headed by one of the victims and has a long history of alleged assaults and threatening behavior, according to law enforcement and court records.

...For the first time, Lanier told residents that the suspect in the homicides that have riveted the Northwest neighborhood targeted his victims. Wint had worked for American Iron Works, a large distributor of iron and steel based in Hyattsville and run by Savvas Savopoulos, who along with his family was active in city’s society, business and fundraising circles. Lanier would not say when Wint worked there. A court record describes him as a certified welder.

DC Authorities: Ex-Con Had Help in Wealthy Family's Slaying

WASHINGTON — May 22, 2015, 10:17 PM ET
By JESSICA GRESKO Associated Press

An ex-convict denied bond on a murder charge Friday had help from others holding a family captive inside their mansion for at least 18 hours, authorities said, and their investigation is continuing.

During their ordeal, the business executive and his wife told others to stay away — even ordering a pizza deliverer to leave two pies at the door — as they frantically arranged for $40,000 in cash to be dropped off at the home.

But once four neat stacks of $100 bills were left on the seat of a red sports car in the family's garage, Daron Dylon Wint brutally struck and stabbed Savvas Savopoulos, the CEO of the American Iron Works company where he had once worked as a welder, Wint's charging document said.

Authorities linked what may have been two different men to Amy Savopoulos' blue Porsche 911 the day of the killings. One, "with short, well-groomed hair," was spotted driving erratically away from the crime scene. Another, wearing a dark hoodie, was videotaped carrying a bucket near where the Porsche was set on fire later that day.

~Snipped~

A woman believed to be Amy Savopoulos paid for the pizzas by credit card and told the delivery person to leave the food on the porch, because she was "nursing her sick child" and would not come to the door, the document says.

Wint, who was tracked down by U.S. Marshals and arrested Thursday night with two other men and three women, appeared in a white jumpsuit in court Friday.

A court document said authorities believe the killings "required the presence and assistance of more than one person." None of the people detained with Wint were immediately charged with any crimes.

Wint is being represented by Natalie Lawson, a public defender. His defense argued that authorities lack probable cause, since a suspect seen driving the Porsche had short hair. Wanted posters issued while Wint was a fugitive showed him with long hair

Authorities: Ex-con had help in slaying of D.C. family

WASHINGTON - Court documents released in the case of a wealthy Washington, D.C. family who was brutally killed along with their housekeeper reveal authorities believe more than one person is responsible for the crime, and that an assistant to one of the victims lied repeatedly to investigators.

~Snipped~

The assistant - identified in court documents only as "W-1" - told police his job consisted of driving Savvas Savopoulos to and from work, as well as handling any daily assignments given to him.

According to the documents, the assistant first told police he received a call from Savvas Savopoulos on the morning of Thursday, May 14 and was instructed to pick up a package from American Iron Works, a construction-materials supplier company based in Hyattsville, Md., for which Savvas Savopoulos was the CEO. He said he was instructed to deliver the package to the Savopoulos residence.

The assistant said he followed the orders and arrived at American Iron Works, where he met with another employee. He said the two then traveled to a bank in Hyattsville where the assistant said the two obtained a manilla envelope containing money.

~Snipped~

According to the documents, authorities later determined there to be inconsistencies in the assistant's account. For example, authorities allege the assistant was inconsistent in describing the time at which he was told to retrieve the package, how he received the package and where he left the package.

The assistant admitted to police he lied about these details, according to the court documents. The assistant told police what really happened was that he retrieved the money from an employee at American Iron Works, placed the money in a red bag and then drove it to the Savopoulos' residence where he put the money in an envelope and placed it in an unlocked car in the garage after being told to do so via phone by Savvas Savopoulos.

You're welcome, AD!

I hadn't been following this case except for a few things I saw on CNN, so I came here to read after I saw you had created this topic.  I was halfway through reading when CNN came on with the breaking news, so I lucked out catching it in real time.  That distracted me from thanking you for creating this topic and posting all the articles you did.  It made it so easy to get caught up.

Details about Savopoulos's assistant who delivered $40,000 cash to family's home

Posted: May 21, 2015 5:46 PM CDT
Updated: May 21, 2015 6:44 PM CDT

By Emily Miller, FOX 5 Chief Investigative Reporter

WASHINGTON -
FOX 5 has identified the employee of Savvas Savopoulos who brought $40,000 in cash to his Northwest D.C. home on the day of the quadruple murders.

The employee has worked for Savopoulos for a few months as an assistant and driver. Police say he has been interviewed and is cooperating.

The assistant, who is an amateur race car driver, often drove Savopoulos. He posted photos on his Instagram account of the interior of Amy Savopoulos' Porsche that was taken from the Woodland Drive house and set on fire.

A friend of Amy's -- who has been driven in the Porsche -- recognized the inside as hers. He captions the photo “another day on the job, my office today is pretty nice.”

Friends of the Savopoulos family say they are car collectors and they own a Bentley and a Range Rover. The interior of both are seen on the assistant's Instagram account.

The Savopoulos' 10-year-old son Philip loved to race go karts. Friends of his mother say the boy was in an accident recently and his mother believed he had a concussion. This photo of Philip in a go kart is from his own Facebook page.

The assistant worked at the Autobahn Indoor Speedway in Jessup, Maryland until March. At the Go Kart racing site on Thursday, we were told that the Savopoulos assistant was “let go” in March. He had worked there since it opened in 2013. The employees have seen both Savvas and Philip Savopoulos many times to race go karts. They believe that is how he met the assistant who he recently hired.

More Than One Person Held D.C. Family Hostage Before Slaying: Documents (Videos)

Updated at 7:57 AM EDT on Sunday, May 24, 2015

~Snipped~

Darron Dellon Dennis Wint, 34, is the only person charged in the murders so far, though the documents say Wint "and others" held the family hostage until $40,000 in cash was delivered Thursday. The deed “required the presence and assistance of more than one person," the documents say.

Wint's name was spelled "Daron Dylon Wint" in previous filings in the case, though today's filing says Darron Dellon Dennis Wint is his "true name." He has also used his brother's name: Steffon.

Court documents also indicate more than one person knew of the delivery of the $40,000 to the Savopoulos family's home in the hours before the victims died.

In fact, one of those witnesses changed his story about critical details of the case while police were interviewing him, changing his claims of when the request to deliver money was made, how he received the package and where it was left.

The person the documents call "W-1" said that he received a text from Savvas Savopoulos Wednesday evening, instructing Savopoulos' assistant to meet another employee Thursday morning to pick up a package.

Initially, W-1 said the request to pick up a package was made Thursday morning.

Thirty-four-year-old Daron Wint is the only person who’s been charged in the slayings of 46-year-old Savvas Savopoulos; his wife, 47-year-old Amy Savopoulos; their 10-year-old son, Philip Savopoulos; and a housekeeper, Veralicia Figueroa.

Police have said in charging documents that they believe Wint had help from others holding the Savopouloses captive inside their northwest Washington mansion for at least 18 hours. But no other suspects have been identified.

Mansion murders suspect used cash for cab, says report (Video)

WUSA 9 Staff, WUSA 6:33 p.m. EDT May 25, 2015

~Snipped~

Daron Wint eluded police for eight days. Authorities said that U.S. marshals just missed apprehending him in Brooklyn, New York. The New York Daily News is reporting that he used $1,000 of the hostage money that was dropped off at the Savopoulos family's house to take a cab from Brooklyn back to D.C. According to the paper, Wint allegedly used the money to pay tolls and give the cab driver a generous tip.

~Snipped~

Former prosecutor Deborah Hines told us, "Well, there had to be some connection between Wint worked there, like, 10 years ago so there has to be some connection to someone that Wint knows that's working there now that was able to give the details to know about the money and that they could get the money delivered to the house."

Wint is expected back in court June 23rd.

D.C. Mansion Murders: Mystery Surrounds Missing $40,000 in Cash at Center of Investigation

By Steve Helling @stevehelling  05/27/2015 AT 06:45 PM EDT

...This much is uncontroverted: Savopoulos asked a driver to bring the cash to the house and leave it in the garage. "We know he asked for the money," a Metropolitan Police source tells PEOPLE, "but we're trying to figure out why."

But even the delivery of the cash is fraught with mystery.

In a police affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, investigators allege that the driver did not initially tell the truth about where the money came from – or when he was asked to bring the money to the house.

A Range Rover, Land Rover and Audi have been towed from the Washington D.C. mansion where a wealthy couple, their son and their housekeeper were found murdered two weeks ago.

The luxury vehicles were taken from the Northwest D.C. home on Thursday as the investigation into the final hours of the Savopoulos family continues, Fox 5 reported.

Authorities have been tight-lipped about the development, but a former federal prosecutor told Fox that 'logic will tell you' someone involved in the crime had probably tried to take the cars.

'So what you do is you go through the cars, make sure you're not missing anything,' Roscoe Howard said. 'They are just crossing T's and dotting I's to make sure they are going through every piece of equipment possible.'

Savopoulos assistant allegedly lied to police about details of $40,000 cash delivery

Published May 29, 2015 · FoxNews.com

The personal assistant who delivered $40,000 in cash to his boss's Washington mansion during a home invasion earlier this month in which four people were murdered allegedly lied to authorities about key details, according to court documents.

The assistant, identified by Fox affiliate WTTG as Jordan Wallace, changed details about his $40,000 delivery to the home of Savvas Savopoulos, CEO of American Iron Works, on the day the family was killed, authorities claim.

FIRST ON FOX: Savopoulos assistant Jordan Wallace lied to police about details of $40,000 cash

Posted: May 27, 2015 6:09 PM CDT
Updated: May 27, 2015 7:01 PM CDT

By Emily Miller, FOX 5 Chief Investigative Reporter

WASHINGTON - The quadruple homicide of the Savopoulos family and their housekeeper is still an open case almost two weeks after their bodies were found dead in their Woodland Drive home in Northwest D.C.

~Snipped~

FOX 5 is now identifying the employee of Savvas Savopoulos who brought $40,000 in cash to the Savopoulos' home on the day of the murders.

Multiple sources have told me that Jordan Wallace is the so-called “W-1” -- otherwise known as Witness 1 -- in court documents regarding this case and he lied to police about the details of dropping off the money at the Savopoulos' house.

FOX 5 has been trying to find Wallace for a week, but he seems to be hiding from the media.

~Snipped~

Prosecutors said that Wallace -- known only as Witness 1 -- lied about how Savvas Savopoulos told him to pick up the $40,000 in cash, how he picked up the package and where he left it.

“This witness is scared talking to the police,” said Howard. “He knows there have been multiple homicides. He's trying to distance himself from it. Certainly trying to make himself as innocent looking as possible.”

Wallace told police that he only knew that there was $40,000 in the package because another employee told him. But police found that Wallace texted photos of the bundles of cash -- apparently to his girlfriend.

Police looking for evidence linking assistant to Savopoulos killings

By Peter Hermann June 4 at 3:18 PM

D.C. police searched the BMW owned by Savvas Savopoulos’s assistant, looking for evidence that could link him to last month’s quadruple killing inside a Northwest Washington home, according to a search warrant application made public Thursday.

Jordan Wallace’s vehicle was found parked one block from the Savopoulos home on Woodland Drive on May 14, after the house had been set on fire with the bodies of Savopoulos, 46; his wife, Amy, 47; their son, Philip, 10; and their housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa, 57, inside. Wallace had told police that he drove to the house after learning of the fire.

...Authorities said in the warrant application that they were searching the BMW for “forensic and physical evidence linking Jordan Wallace to this offense.” Items they seized included two backpacks, a laptop computer and fast-food receipts. Police also took swabs of the interior of the car and pieces of the vehicle, including the armrest handles.

Police say cellphones were stolen from slain Savopoulos family

By Peter Hermann June 3

Detectives are focusing on cellphones stolen from the Savopoulos family’s Northwest Washington home, hoping to identify additional suspects from the phones’ locations and the contents of texts and calls made before and after the violent deaths of three family members and a housekeeper.

...Police will not say why Wallace had two versions of his account. Text messages found by police and obtained by The Washington Post show that Wallace sent a text to Savopoulos at 8:30 p.m. May 13: “Got your message, I’ll call you once I get the package.”

The next day, police said, Wallace texted and called several people, including a woman to whom he sent a photo of the red bag and money at 9 a.m. “Daaaamn,” the woman responded. “I wonder how much it is?” Wallace responded, “40,” to which the woman texted back, “Jesus.”

Cash and knives found in the car with suspect in D.C.’s Savopoulos killings

By Peter Hermann June 5 at 1:09 PM

Police who searched a white Chevrolet Cruze occupied by the man charged with killing three members of the Savopoulos family and their housekeeper found cash, money orders, bank receipts and two knives, according to a search warrant made public Friday.

...Authorities said at first that it appeared that there was no forced entry into the house. But in court documents filed this week, detectives said a bootprint was discovered on a French door, along with a broken glass panel, which could indicate force being used. Police had said firefighters damaged many items while fighting the blaze but that the tread on the bootprint does not match those of firefighters. Police are trying to match the print to potential suspects.

...In addition to the knives and money, police said they found a black and pink bag, clothing, an iPad and a Verizon Samsung phone. The warrant also says police took latent fingerprints. Police have previously reported finding $10,000 in money orders in the truck and a stack of $100 bills stuffed into a side door. Authorities have said the denominations of the money are similar to the denominations used in the $40,000 payment.

Lone suspect in D.C. mansion murders flagged for deportation

By Andrea Noble - The Washington Times - Updated: 9:23 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2015

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has flagged for deportation the sole suspect charged in the high-profile, quadruple homicide in the multimillion dollar Northwest home of businessman Savvas Savopoulos.

The agency has placed an immigration detainer on Darron Delon Dennis Wint, who was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in last month’s killings of a D.C. couple, their 10-year-old child and the family’s housekeeper. ICE officials confirmed that Mr. Wint, who is a citizen of Guyana, could face deportation from the United States if he is convicted.

ICE spokeswoman Carissa Cutrell said Mr. Wint is in the United States legally as a lawful permanent resident, a term used by the agency for green card holders. She said the agency filed the detainer, which asks the local jail to alert officials of an individual’s pending release so he or she can be taken into ICE custody, after Mr. Wint was arrested and charged with murder.

Clothes and garage door openers are among evidence at Savopoulos home

By Peter Hermann June 11 at 3:07 PM

Police who searched the home of the Savopoulos family in Northwest Washington, where four people were killed last month, seized a wide variety of evidence that includes financial papers, furniture, food, garage door openers, clothing and credit cards, according to a court document filed Thursday.

...Police said they took from the home photographs, hair fibers, shoe prints “and other forms of biological / forensic evidence.” Detectives also took personal papers and writings, financial documents, money, bedding, plastic bags, trash bags, tape, matches, lighters, buckets and several vehicles. Police said they took “all electronic devices” and weapons, though the document did not describe them. Police also seized pizza boxes, pizza, beverage containers and “materials related to surveillance systems and digital storage.”
