The Kentucky woman who shot her boyfriend in the head and face multiple times said she was giving him “the nose job that he wanted,” detectives said.

Investigators revealed a string of gruesome new details at a preliminary hearing Thursday for Shayna Hubers, 21, the Eastern Kentucky University student charged with murder in the slaying of on again-off again boyfriend Ryan Poston, 29.

“She said she couldn’t stand to see him deformed [after shooting him in the face]. She said he was vain,” Highland Heights Detective Bill Birkenhauer said in a chilling testimony before the Campbell County District Court.

Firing six bullets into her boyfriend, twice in the head and four more times to stop the twitching, detectives say Shayna Hubers admitted giving him the nose job he always wanted.

Testifying at a preliminary hearing for murder on Thursday, Highland Heights, Kentucky, Detective Bill Birkenhauer revealed that while the 21-year-old from Lexington, changed her story a few times, her intent has remained.

'She said she gave him the nose job he wanted,' he said according to Cincinnati.com. 'She said she couldn't stand to see him deformed (after shooting him in the face.) She said he was vain.'

She also said it was in self defense.

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - On Thursday, a grand jury indicted a woman who police say shot and killer her boyfriend in his Highland Heights apartment in October.

The Campbell County Grand Jury indicted 21-year-old Shayna Hubers on Thursday after police say she fired fatal shots at her boyfriend Ryan Poston, 29, on Oct. 12 at his apartment on Meadow Lane in Highland Heights. Hubers told police who responded to the crime scene that she killed Poston in self defense.

Hubers shot Poston and then waited 15 minutes before calling the police, according to a report. She was granted a $5 million bond.

Officials have not released any additional details about the case as this time. Her arraignment date has not yet been set.

Shayna Hubers enters Campbell District Court Oct. 25 for a preliminary hearing on a charge of murder in the shooting death of Ryan Poston.

A 21-year-old Lexington woman pleaded not guilty Wednesday to one count of murder for allegedly shooting her boyfriend three months ago inside his Highland Heights condominium.

Shayna Hubers' attorney, Wil Zevely, continued to claim his client was just defending herself by filing a motion formally announcing Hubers is pursuing a self-defense claim.

Campbell Circuit Judge Fred Stine set a hearing for Feb. 5 on an oral motion to set a bond for Hubers. She appeared in court via video from the Campbell County jail, where she is being held on no bond.

Police say Shayna Hubers, 21, fired fatal shots at her boyfriend Ryan Poston, 29, at his apartment on Meadow Lane in Highland Heights on Oct. 12. In December, a Campbell County grand jury indicted Hubers on the murder charges.

Shayna Hubers case: Judge doesn't change bond for woman accused of killing boyfriend

NEWPORT, Ky - A Northern Kentucky woman accused of gunning down her boyfriend is still jailed after a judge ruled Tuesday that her bond remain the same.

A judge ruled that 21-year-old Shayna Hubers will still be jailed with no bond. Hubers is being held at the Campbell County Detention Center.

Hubers of Lexington allegedly fired fatal shots at her boyfriend, 29-year-old Ryan Poston, at his apartment on Meadow Lane in Highland Heights in October 2012.

Hubers' attorney, Jon Paul Rion, said she should have a reasonable bond because she is not a flight risk and has no prior criminal record. Rion stated this is a case of self defense.

"I think when you look at things in context, it's going to be obvious things happened very quickly, in a very short period of time without any thought that when into this. It's a tragic event and I think the community and the jury need to hear the whole story," Rion said.

Ryan Poston, 29, was killed Friday, Oct. 12 in Highland Heights. His girlfriend, Shayna Hubers, is being held in the Campbell County Detention Center on a $2 million bond, charged with his murder.

"Ryan's family is devastated by this loss. Ryan was as bright as he was kind and as principled as he was caring. His passing is an unspeakable hardship to so many people. We ask that all of Ryan's family and friends as well as our community to keep Ryan and those who loved him in their thoughts and prayers. We want to make it clear that Ryan was trying to end this relationship; he was trying to move on with his life. Tragically, his life was taken from him. CAMPBELL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Police in Highland Heights say Shayna Hubers shot her boyfriend, 29-year-old Ryan Poston multiple times with a handgun inside his home Saturday night.

"Our prayers go out to her family," said one woman, who claimed Huber was a childhood friend. "And his family, too," added another friend.

We're just shocked that it had to be one of our friends that we grew up with, and know. That's what we're left with know, that impression."

These friends say that's not the same girl they knew from Dunbar High School.

"I knew her. She was quiet, she was always smarter than we were, in AP classes. She's a sweet girl, didn't really talk a lot, but I never would've expected it coming from her, no."

Jury selection begins today in the murder trial of a 24-year-old Kentucky woman accused of gunning down her on-again, off-again boyfriend.

Shayna Hubers is accused of killing Ryan Poston in October 2012. Hubers told the court during a bail hearing last year that she shot Poston, a 29-year-old lawyer, in self-defense.

“I believe that I would have been hurt, that I would have been shot,” she said in court in July, pleading not guilty to murder.

According to court records, police say Hubers told them she shot Poston in the face twice, and then four more times to “put him out of his misery” and to end his “twitching and moaning.”

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the prosecution will argue that Hubers murdered Poston out of anger when he tried to break up with her.

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS —After spending hours selecting a jury, attorneys for both sides in Shayna Hubers' murder trial delivered opening arguments in Campbell County Circuit Court.

"We believe that the evidence will show that is not true," said Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Sheryl Heeter who added, "That any perceived abuse by her did not rise to any level, no where near justification for shooting and killing someone, and shooting them six times."

During his opening statement, Hubers' defense attorney, David Mejia, countered that take by prosecutors, saying testimony from neighbors who heard the deadly shooting will support Hubers' argument that she shot Poston to protect herself.

"They heard two shots and then four shots in rapid succession -- bang, bang and then four more in rapid succession," Mejia said. "They would have you believe that she shot from across the room in cold blood and then came around and shot him as he lay on the floor."

On the first day of testimony Tuesday, jurors were shown a video of the defendant’s interview with police following the slaying.

'He was screaming at me at the top of his lungs after he had thrown me around the room,' the woman told a detective sitting across from her, reported Cincinnati.com.

‘I shot him enough times to kill him,’ she said, ‘so that he wouldn't suffer... He was laying there, twitching and making noises, and I shot him in the head.

‘I was watching him die. it was painful to watch him die and to know that I had done that,' reported WCPO.

Hubers then described her late boyfriend of one year as 'vain' about his looks.

‘I shot him right here,’ she said in the video as she pointed to her nose. ‘I gave him his nose job he wanted.’

NEWPORT -- There won't be any Tweeting from the courtroom or live TV broadcasts next week in the murder trial of Shayna Hubers, the Lexington woman accused of murdering her boyfriend in his Highland Heights condo in 2012.

Campbell Circuit Judge Fred A. Stine has banned "live blogging or reporting from any kind from the courtroom", as well as "any real-time streaming of testimony via the internet or social media."

In an order issued this week, he said one television camera will be permitted inside the courtroom, along with one still photographer. They must provide "pool" footage to other media outlets, and nobody is allowed to broadcast the trial in its entirety until after a verdict is rendered.

NEWPORT, Ky. (Adam Clements) -- Jurors are hearing the first testimony in the high profile murder trial of Shayna Hubers. Hubers is accused of shooting her boyfriend, attorney Ryan Poston, several times in his Highland Heights condo back in 2012.

Some very compelling, very emotional evidence was shown to the jury Tuesday, April 14.

First, jurors heard the 911 call Hubers placed just after she says she shot Poston 6 times out of self defense in the dining room of his home.

Then, video was played for the courtroom showing Hubers' interview with police after she was taken from the scene. In the video, she describes what exactly happened. "Then he was twitching and I shot him again because I wanted to put him out of his misery I couldn't stand to watch him like that."

Hubers was hysterical in a 911 call to authorities, which was played in court Tuesday, the opening day of testimony in the trial.

“He was right in front of me and he reached down and grabbed the gun, and I grabbed it out of his hands and pulled the trigger,” she said in the call.

Police interview video, recorded the same night, featured Hubers displaying a wide range of emotion -- crying, pacing and talking to herself.

“I knew he was going to die a very slow and painful death,” she said in the video. “He was twitching and moaning, but I knew he was already dead.”

Detective says Hubers never cried during interviews

NEWPORT, Ky. —Testimony continued Thursday in the trial of a woman accused of fatally shooting her boyfriend during an argument at his condominium in Highland Heights.

Shayna Hubers, 24, is facing a murder charge in the 2012 death of Ryan Poston, 29. Hubers has said she shot Poston in self-defense.

According to previous testimony and police video, Hubers said she went to the condo to pick up her things after Poston ended their relationship. She says they got into an argument that escalated to a physical confrontation.

But officers testified Thursday that they saw no injuries when they spoke to Hubers after the shooting.

Detectives also noted that Hubers didn't seem very upset about the incident.

Commonwealth attorney Michelle Snodgrass called a forensic specialist to the stand to testify about blood evidence.

Forensic Analyst Howard Ryan told the jury the way the blood hit the victim’s pants but not his shirt shows how the victim was positioned at the time of the shooting.

“That puts the legs out almost in a perpendicular or near perpendicular to the upper torso of the body almost in a seated position or near seated position,” said Forensic Analyst Howard Ryan.

Hubers’ defense attorney David Mejia cross-examined Ryan asking if he could tell if the victim’s arm was extended in an attacking position.

“I can’t say whether his arm was extended,” Ryan said

NEWPORT – The courtroom was charged with electricity as the grief-stricken parents of Ryan Poston took the stand Friday afternoon to testify against his on-off girlfriend, Shayna Hubers, who is on trial for his murder.

Even jurors leaned forward in their seats, listening intently to Jay Poston and Lisa Carter speak about their son and his final days.

Thin, petite and wearing a black dress, Lisa Carter seemed to almost disappear in her grief as she walked slowly into the courtroom and entered the witness box.

"The night before she murdered him, she came to my home and ate at my table," Carter said bitterly.

Hubers and Poston had dinner with his mother and stepfather, Peter Carter, the night before he was killed.

"She was supposedly out of his life," Lisa Carter testified. "The night before, she made it clear to me she was leaving."

Jay Poston, wearing a black suit, blue shirt and red tie, alternated between grief and anger as he testified about what he knew of their relationship. Hubers seemed to avert her eyes as he entered the witness box.

One night in August 2012, he said Ryan appeared on his doorstep in the middle of the night with his briefcase, computer and some clothes.

"He said, 'Dad, she will not leave my house,' " Jay Poston testified. "He was tired, he was frustrated – you could tell he did not know what to do."

NEWPORT The victim's father. A former Miss Ohio. A jailhouse snitch. A friend of the couple. The neighbors who lived downstairs. An investigator. An expert in bloodstains.

A litany of witnesses took the stand Thursday to bolster the prosecution's contention that when Shayna Hubers shot Ryan Poston six times on a Friday night in October 2012 with his own handgun, it was murder.

Hubers, 24, has said she shot the 29-year-old attorney in self-defense after they argued and he pushed and threw her.

The compelling, and sometimes emotional, testimony on the trial's fourth day included the first family member to take the stand: Peter Carter, who helped raise Poston since age 1. Carter and Poston's biological father, Jay Poston, consider themselves co-parents along with his mother, Lisa.

According to previous testimony and police video, Hubers said she went to the condo to pick up her things after Poston ended their relationship. She says they got into an argument that escalated to a physical confrontation.

NEWPORT, Ky. —The prosecution rested its case Friday against the woman accused of fatally shooting her boyfriend during an argument at his condominium in Highland Heights.

Shayna Hubers, 24, is charged with murder in the 2012 death of Ryan Posten, 29. Hubers has said she shot Posten in self-defense.

On Friday, two of Hubers' former cellmates testified that Hubers admitted to them that she killed Posten and that it wasn't in self-defense.

The night that Ryan Poston was shot dead by his on-again, off-again girlfriend he was supposed to meet a former Miss Ohio 2012 beauty queen for a date, an Ohio court heard on Thursday.

Audrey Bolte, who also finished runner-up in Miss USA, told prosecutors she was looking forward to seeing Poston, 29, at a bar to play pool and drink on October 12, 2012, but he failed to arrive.

That was because Shayna Hubers had shot him six times at home - during which she allegedly 'cackled' with glee claimed a cellmate of the accused, who claims the 24-year-old confessed to her while behind bars.

What is it with these obsessive women (CMJA, Shayna, etc.) who can't take no for an answer?  No matter how much they are not wanted by the guy, they insist on making themselves a fixture in their lives.  I still struggle to understand that.  I guess I should take comfort in the fact that I don't get it...

NEWPORT –  "What is it like to cover a murder trial?"

All week, family and friends have asked me that question, and it's a tough one to answer.

Sometimes it's dull. Sometimes it's edge-of-your-seat gripping. Often, it's emotional.

The murder trial of Shayna Hubers has been more emotional – and more unusual – than most, which is why it's attracted so much national media attention.

It's a terrible story: Two young, attractive, well-educated kids from the suburbs caught up in an on-and-off relationship that ended with one of them dead on his dining room floor, shot six times with his own handgun – and the other accused of his murder.

NEWPORT – During the first week of Shayna Hubers' murder trial, prosecutors made a case that the graduate student shot and killed lawyer Ryan Poston on a Friday night in October 2012 because he wanted to end their on-off relationship.

Prosecutors used Hubers' own words against her: the call she placed to 911, her statements to police, the text messages she exchanged with Poston, and what she told fellow inmates at the Campbell County jail.

They also used the words of the victim's grieving family members: Poston's parents gave emotional testimony that their son wanted to finally cut her out of his life, but was afraid to hurt her feelings.

During the second week of the trial, however, defense attorneys will have the opportunity to poke holes in that theory and make their own case that Hubers, then 21 years old, shot her 29-year-old boyfriend in self-defense after he had verbally and physically abused her.

Dressed in black slacks, a black shirt and a black-and-white sweater, Sharon Hubers spoke softly and nervously.

She told jurors that when she arrived at the condo, her daughter was clearly upset and didn't feel well. Previous testimony has indicated Hubers and Poston argued or had an emotional incident Thursday night.

"She was shaking. She was grabbing her left arm. I could tell she was hurting," she said. "I tried to get her to leave with me and come home and go to the emergency room."

Instead, Shayna Hubers lay down on the couch, put her feet into her mother's lap, and they fell asleep for a few hours. When they woke, Shayna Hubers went to speak with Poston in the back bedroom and gathered some things. After that, Shayna and Sharon Hubers went to Bob Evans and then to a mall in a Cincinnati suburb.

Experts: Shayna Hubers' self-defense claim seldom used

As Shayna Hubers presents her defense this week, she'll use a claim seldom successfully seen in murder trials.

"Self-defense is actually an affirmative defense. That means you're admitting the conduct of the crime but (saying) it's justified," Brad Fox, a Covington-based attorney who practices law in Northern Kentucky and Southwest Ohio, said Monday.

It's tough, Fox said, to win a self-defense claim when there are no witnesses to the death other than the accused and the deceased.

"She has to prove, 'I was justified because I was defending myself,' " Fox said.

Shayna Hubers' mother also testified about the first time she ever met Posten.

“He put his head down. Very, very, like this, very awkward. The condo was not what you’d expect out of a gentleman almost 30 years old. It was very nasty.”

On cross-examination, prosecutors brought up another shooting where a family member of the Hubers’ claimed self-defense.

“The only one that I know, would be great-uncle to Shane,” said Sharon Hubers. "That was a long, long time ago.”

The defense team also called an investigator and brought up items they indicated were signs of a struggle, including the victim’s ripped shirt, a shoe in an odd position and shell casings found away from the table where Posten was shot.

Defense attorneys also called their own expert witness who said Posten had amphetamines in his system and the kind found had stronger side-effects than some drugs from the same family.

“It has more propensity to cause outbursts, violence, aggression and discontrol,” Dr. Saeed Jortani, from the University of Louisville, said.

They're trying to prove the young co-ed killed her attorney boyfriend in self-defense.

Sharon Hubers told the jury she feared for her daughter's safety after going with her to visit Ryan Poston in his condo three years ago.

"I saw some loaded guns about,” said Sharon. “There were two on the loveseat in the living room in tan colored holsters."

They introduced Facebook posts he made about his lawsuit against a legal partner.
   
"So now everyone wants me to settle," Poston writes. "I want to rig explosives to everything I see. There's nothing I want more than to just scorch (expletive) the earth and leave this entire city in a pile of burnt rubble if necessary..."
   
A toxicology expert called by the defense says Poston was taking Xanax and Adderall, drugs linked to aggression and paranoia.

Two guns is all? lol A lot of hunting in the area and males have always been fascinated with guns. Keep in mind:SHE used the gun against him... NOT the other way around!

As for his age: Did the parent express any concern when her dau was a steady with the young atty OR was it only after her dau was arrested for murder? Her dau could have walked away! Her dau might have been counseled re age differences earlier on. Apparently, the dau was NOT counseled and chose to continue seeing him. (And there are many relationships where the age difference would not have mattered.)
