New deadline for letters opposing Abigail Young's parole: 6/30/13
Bumping this thread to the current page!Ann - Tx wrote:
New deadline for letters opposing parole for Abigail Young: 6/30/13
Yesterday (5/30/13), I spoke to a representative from the Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice - Victim Services Division in Austin, TX.
I was told that numerous letters opposing Abigail Young's parole have been received.
Parole review is a process. The representative told me that letters can still be sent and if received by June, 30, 2013, they will be included in Abigail Young's file which will be sent to the Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles.
The representative suggests that if any one still wants to write a letter, they do so as soon as possible. The sooner; the better!
Also, you can write more than one letter. If you already sent a letter and you forgot to include some info you wanted to state in your first letter, you can send another letter.
You can include Links to articles, pdf files, etc. in your letter.
So . . . if you have not written a letter opposing Abigail Young's parole, you still have an opportunity to be a voice for her daughter, the victim . . . barely-4-year old Emma Thompson who was brutally raped and beaten to death!
As stated in previous comments, serving less than 3 years of a 20 year sentence is not justice for Emma Thompson!
If you have limited time, your letter can be as simple as:
"I oppose parole for Abigail Young."
Letters can me mailed, e-mailed or FAX and MUST include Abigail Young's pertinent TDCJ info (hi-lited in blue):
Reference: Young, Abigail
State ID: 08428403
TDCJ ID: 01668233

Special thanks to all of you who wrote a letter opposing parole for Abigail Young and being a voice for precious Emma Thompson.
Thank you, in advance, to those who will write a letter opposing parole for Abigail Young by the new deadline of 6/30/13!

This is awesome. It is always sad a child has to die for these bills to be law but glad they move forward so maybe this will not happen to another child. Maybe another parent will think and do the right thing.

Ann, my memory isn't what it used to be. Can you give us a short version of what this bill says. I believe I remember you said it would not apply to Abgail, but would apply to others sentenced from this date forward. Is that correct?

That is correct Mama. This would asssure that no other family would have to go thru what Emma's is going thru, with all the appeals and heartaches of re-living the nightmare every year. I know they will do what they have to do just to keep the monster in prison but it is not fair.

sitemama, per Andy Kahan (Director of City of Houston Victims Assistance) who was instrumental along with Laurie Thompson, Emma Thompson's paternal grandmother, in getting State Rep (TX) Debbie Riddle to file HB431 (now known as Emma's Law) this law will be retroactive.
It will be effective 9/1/2013 and will not affect Abigail Young's parole review set off date for 2013. If Young is not paroled in August, 2013, Emma's Law will be a consideration for 2014.

GOVERNOR SIGNS EMMA'S LAW
JUNE 17TH, 2013) FSW
KWHI - Brenham, TX
Abigail Young will not be eligible for parole for several years after Gov. Rick Perry signed Emma’s Law into law this weekend.
Abigail Young, the former Brenham nurse was convicted of neglecting her four year old daughter, Emma Thompson, while her boyfriend, Lucas Coe repeatedly beat, abused, then killed her, in June of 2009. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison for that crime but has been up for parole several times.
That will not happen for another five years according to Emma’s Law. Gov. Rick Perry signed House Bill 431 on Saturday,
Under this new law, anyone convicted of a felony against a child is eligible for parole once every five years.
The bill received overwhelming support in both the House and Senate.

In Loving Memory of Emma Thompson: Emma's Law signed by TX Gov. Rick Perry on 6/14/13
In loving memory of precious Emma Thompson . . .
Gone . . . but not forgotten!
Emma Thompson's last Christmas - December, 2008
~~~
Emma Thompson's last Easter in Brenham, TX at the family ranch - 4/12/2009
Emma Thompson deceased: 6/27/09
Emma was still a happy little girl when this picture was taken on Easter Sunday (per her maternal aunt, Amanda Mathews).
Emma's mother, Abigail Young, brought her boyfriend, Lucas Coe, into her home in May, 2009
and that is when Emma's abuse started which escalated to sexual abuse and eventually the
fatal day in June, 2009 when Emma was brutally raped and beaten to death by Lucas Coe.
Per trial testimony in the trials of Abigail Young and then Lucas Coe, Abigail Young, a highly trained
Registered Nurse (at the time) did not protect her daughter, Emma, but she did bleach (destroy evidence) her bathroom
before attempting to seek medical aid for an apparently already dead Emma in an effort to protect Lucas Coe.
Per trial testimony, Abigail Young 'cleaned' Emma before removing her from the home and driving down the street,
stopping and pulling Emma from her car.
Strangers stopped on the side of the road and called 911 and strangers gave Emma CPR while the highly trained Registered Nurse, Abigail Young,
was on the phone with her boyfriend, Lucas Coe. Per trial testimony and cell phone records introduced into evidence, Young was on
the phone the entire time and finally got off of the phone as Emma was being transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital, The Woodlands, TX.
Per trial testimony, Abigail Young told the stranger (a nurse) who was giving Emma CPR on the side of the road to quit because
Emma "was gone." The nurse ignored Abigail Young's request.
The nurse continued to give Emma CPR until EMS arrived and EMS did all they could to revive Emma to no avail. Emma was
transported via EMS ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands, TX where efforts continued to revive her until
a doctor ordered efforts to discontinue because Emma was dead and could not be revived. Per trial testimony, the nurse indicated
efforts to revive Emma continued for a very long time.
The Emergency Room nurses that tended to Emma the night she was brought to Memorial Hermann became very emotional during their testimony and
cried as they were questioned about Emma. They described the injuries of barely 4-year-old Emma as the horrific pictures of sweet little Emma were introduced into evidence and projected on 3 huge screens within the Court Room.
When asked what was the first thing she noticed from a distance as she approached the "room" Emma was in, the head ER nurse said
she noticed the beautiful, vibrant red hair.
Upon closer examination, she noted that Emma's hair should have been saturated in blood from the large fracture
in the skull. With that type of injury, Emma would have bled profusely and her hair should have been saturated in blood but instead it was very clean
and very little blood. It was evident that Emma's hair had been washed and she was "cleaned" up prior to being taken from her home in an attempt
to seek medical aid.
The nurse described the horrific injuries she observed and the contusions/bruises; especially between the legs (thigh area and above). Before tending to injuries, the nurse testified that their priority in an emergency situation is to get the patient to breathe and then tend to the injuries. Emma could not be revived.
Abigail Young, as a mother and highly trained Registered Nurse, who was working in Labor & Delivery at a well known hospital in the Houston, TX area in 2009, did nothing to protect or save her precious daughter, Emma Thompson! She did protect Lucas Coe.
Abigail Young should serve all 20 years of her sentence. Serving less than 3 years of a 20 year sentence does not warrant parole in the horrific rape and murder of her daughter, Emma!
If you have not written a letter opposing parole for Abigail Young, please do so immediately. Info on who to send it to is posted upthread.
NO PAROLE FOR ABIGAIL YOUNG!
Thanks for the continued support in seeking justice for precious Emma Thompson.
Emma . . . Gone long before her time . . . . . thanks to her mother's decisions and no protection from her mother who Emma trusted (per her maternal aunt, Amanda Mathews).
Sweet dreams, precious Emma! We all know you are in Heaven walking hand in hand with Jesus, sweet little one!
Above pictures courtesy: Amanda Young Mathews, Emma Thompson's maternal aunt
~~~ Rest in peace, precious Emma! ~~~
There is now Emma's Law in your honor, sweet Emma!
It was signed by Texas Governor Rick Perry on Friday, 6/14/13 (Flag Day).

Twice it went to a page that said web page is expired.
I am done trying to post to this thread for now! I don't need this hassle.
J4A, would you please cancel the current format and put it back like it was? I never had problems posting in our awesome format prior to this change.
I will try tonight or later today to post pertinent info to the above comment. One more time . . . if it goes poof, then I'm done!!!

Emma's Law effective immediately on 6/14/13
Emma's Law became effective immediately when TX Governor Rick Perry signed HB431, now known as Emma's Law in honor of Emma Thompson, on Friday, 6/14/13.
This info is per Leslie French, Clerk - House Committee on Corrections (C200) -- Austin, TX
Leslie does not know if this will affect Abigail Young's case this year since she went into Parole Review status on 4/30/13. Leslie said I will have to check with the Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles as to how it will or will not affect Young's case for 2013 which I will try to do today.
I have a very busy day today and may not be able to research this until Monday, 6/24/13.

Please support justice for Emma Thompson and be a voice for barely 4-year-old Emma when she was brutally raped and beaten to death by her mother's (Abigail Young) boyfriend.
Abigail Young did nothing to protect Emma; she protected Lucas Coe! Because of Abigail Young's decisions and actions, Emma's life was brutally cut short. During Abigail Young's trial, the prosecutors stated that Abigail Young loved Lucas Coe more than she loved her own precious daughter, Emma.
Serving less than 3 years of a 20 year sentence is NOT justice for Emma --- please oppose parole for Abigail Young by writing a letter to the Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles.
Thanks! Emma will be smiling down at you from Heaven.

Update re status of Abigail Young's parole review - 2013
We should be hearing from the Texas Pardons & Parole Board (TPPB) soon regarding Abigail Young's parole. It surprises me that we did not hear of the decision by the end of August.
TPPB are/were interviewing a few that they interviewed last year who opposed parole for Abigail Young (mostly immediate family).
Amanda Young Mathews (Abigail Young's sister; Emma Thompson's maternal aunt) was interviewed by TPPB on 9/10/13.
The following is a comment (in blue) she made on her Facebook page on 9/10/13:

Today is weighing heavy on my heart...I still need lots of prayers to get me through this day!!!! 12:00 its time to remind the parole board that the nature of what Abigail Young did and allowed to happen to Emma has not changed!! It still amazes me that a mother of three beautiful children cared more about a monster than about her girls!! I am thankful I still have the two of them but wish for all... three to still be here!! She deserves to sit her full term of 20 years but I will be happy with any time they can offset the next hearing and a denial this go round!! Emma's Law is only good if it works to help the system keep offenders behind bars! Nobody could ever convince me that she didn't deserve more than what she got! Emma deserved so much more...Emma doesn't get good behavior, Emma doesn't get time served, Emma was cheated of her freedom and life....Abigail doesnt deserve to be free!!!

Abigail Young denied parole!
Abigail Young has been denied parole by the Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles.
This morning I received an e-mail from the TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE VICTIM SERVICES DIVISION.

On 9/19/2013, the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles denied release and issued a serve all for this offender. As required by the Mandatory Supervision Law that became effective August 29, 1977, the offender will be released on the projected release date of 8/16/2018 and will remain under supervision until 7/10/2030. We recommend calling our office in order to obtain the most recent information about the offender's projected release date since it is subject to change due to good time gains/losses or time recalculations.
NOTE: Due to the Discretionary Mandatory Law that became effective September 1, 1996, this case may be reviewed by the Board to decide whether to approve or deny the offender's release on the projected release date. We will notify you in the event of a discretionary review.

Yes, Freckles! Indeed this is excellent news.
Abigail Young will have to serve 5 more years in prison (where she deserves to be) for sure and no annual parole review thanks to Emma's Law signed into law by Texas Gov. Rick Perry on 6/14/13.
Emma's paternal grandmother, Laurie Thompson, was instrumental in getting this law passed by working closely with Texas State Rep. Debbie Riddle who represents the area in which precious little Emma lived.

KWHI - Brenham, TX: Young Denied parole
YOUNG DENIED PAROLE--AGAIN
KWHI - Brenham, TX
(SEPTEMBER 21, 2013) FSW
Abigail Young has been denied parole yet again.
Young, a former Brenham nurse was arrested in August of 2009, after her daughter Emma died in June that year, of injuries she received from boyfriend Lucas Coe.
Young was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison for failing to do anything to protect her daughter from Coe’s abuse.
The Texas Legislature passed ‘Emma’s Law’ in this session that would not allow anyone convicted of a felony against a child to have a parole hearing for at least five years. Thursday’s hearing had already been set when the law was passed.
Young is projected to be released in August of 2018, and will remain under legal supervision until July of 2030.

Laurie Thompson comments on Facebook - Justice For Emma Thompson
Laurie Thompson, Emma's paternal grandmother, left the following comments (below - in blue) on the Facebook page, Justice For Emma Thompson.
This is the Facebook page that LCoastMom created in 2012 (in honor of Emma Thompson and to continue to seek justice for Emma) to oppose parole for Abigail Young.
Currently, there are 1,885 "likes". Although LCoastMom can not be active on Justice For Emma Thompson facebook at this time due to illness, I think LCM would be very proud that so many folks have "liked" the page she created for Emma. Special thoughts & prayers are with you, LCoastMom! Get well soon!
Please "like" Justice For Emma Thompson (if you have not already done so).
Special thanks to Laurie Thompson for her efforts in getting Emma's Law passed! What a wonderful grandmother!
Emma was so lucky to have at least one grandmother who sought justice for her during the trials of Abigail Young and Lucas Coe and continued to seek justice by working with State of Texas Representative Debbie Riddle to introduce HB431 during the 2013 Legislative Session.
HB431, now known as Emma's Law to honor Emma Thompson, became law and effective immediately when TX Gov. Rick Perry signed it into law on 6/14/13.
This important law (Emma's Law) was used by the Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles to give Abigail Young a 5 year set-off date during the 2013 parole review. If Emma's Law was not in effect, Abigail Young would be up for parole review again in 2014.

Facebook "Justice For Emma Thompson" comments by Laurie Thompson
Laurie Thompson
We are pleased to report that the full application of Emma's Law has been made in the consideration of Abigail Young's parole. A five year set-back was applied in this case and her next date for possible eligibility (for parole) is August, 2018. Many thanks to State Representatives Debbie Riddle and Patricia Harless for their dogged determination in getting Emma's Law passed.

It is my hope that Emma's Law will be a source of justice, peace and healing for others who suffer the loss of loved ones - including the elderly or disabled who cannot protect themselves against those who would bring harm to them.

When CPS workers accept lies, children can die

AUSTIN — When Child Protective Services workers accept lies at face value and stop pressing for the truth, children can die. Being gullible about relationships, living situations or even abuse can be fatal, as illustrated by the recent beating deaths of at least four young Texas children — Orien Hamilton, Alexandria Hill, Giovanni Guajardo and Emma Thompson. In each instance, adults who had something to hide or who needed to be strong-willed protectors misled CPS workers. Had the workers known the truth, they might have removed the children from harm’s way. wrote:
That revelation rocked the department, reviving painful memories of a 2009 Houston case. CPS left 4-year-old Emma Thompson, who’d contracted herpes, in her mother’s care. A CPS worker accepted the mother’s misleading claims. Fifteen days later, the mother’s live-in boyfriend sexually abused and killed Emma. “Women who are abused are really good liars. I’ve dealt with that as a judge,” said Specia, who said CPS workers need more training on domestic-violence victims’ tendency to protect abusers. wrote:

This is the Facebook page which has been mentioned in several articles by mainstream media during efforts to get folks to write letters to Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles requesting TBPP deny Abigail Young, Emma's birth mother, parole.
As many of you may recall, we aggressively campaigned against parole for Abigail Young twice . . . in 2012 and 2013. For certain (at this time) Abigail Young will spend the next five (5) years in a Texas prison.

I know you and all of the angels in Heaven celebrated the birth of Christ.
Emma, you are in a glorious place now and no one will ever hurt you again because
you are in God's loving care and you now soar with the angels.
Rest in eternal peace and may perpetual light shine upon you, Emma . . . precious child of God.

No letter writing campaign to Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles in 2014 re Abigail Young!
It is January 1, 2014!
"Happy New Year" in Heaven, precious Emma . . .
Emma Thompson's last Christmas - December,2008
It is wonderful to know that we will not have to actively campaign for many months this year to encourage folks that follow Reality Chatter, Websleuths, Justice For Emma (facebook page by LCoastMom), many personal e-mails and the media to oppose parole for Abigail Young.
Thanks to Emma's wonderful paternal grandmother, Laurie Thompson, for her hard work in pursuing legislation which became Emma's Law and was signed by Texas Gov. Rick Perry in June, 2013. Because of Emma's Law, TBPP had the option of a 5 year set off date and they went for that option when Abigail Young was up for parole review in 2013. Abigail Young will not be considered for parole this year or the next 5 years. It is wonderful to know that Young will be in prison and not out on parole.
I admire Laurie Thompson. She and the Thompson family have fought for justice for Emma. Sadly, Emma's maternal grandmother, Margie Routt Young, has not fought for justice for Emma. Thanks to Laurie Thompson and State of TX Representative Debbie Riddle, Emma's Law became a reality.
It would have been awful if Abigail Young was granted parole in 2013. It is awesome that Emma's Law was effective when Young's "no parole" decision was made by TBPP in 2013.
Barely 4 year old Emma died a brutal, horrific death because of Abigail Young and Lucas Coe. We should never, ever forget how Emma died and the injuries she sustained. Her pain and suffering must have been horrendous. Coe will be in prison for the rest of his life. Young should serve every day of her 20 year sentence.
Precious Emma Thompson is dead, long before her time, because of Abigail Young's lies and decisions. As the Harris County prosecutors said, " Abigail Young loved Lucas Coe more than her own daughter, Emma Thompson." I hope Young thinks of Emma every day. However, she had the opportunity to express remorse during the sentencing phase of her trial and she chose not to speak. Perhaps she has no remorse regarding Emma. Maybe she has not taken responsibility for her actions regarding Emma's death. Who knows . . .
The above is "just my opinion."
Thank you Laurie Thompson . . .

Remembering Emma Thompson ... 5 years later ...
Today, 6/27/14, is five (5) years that precious Emma Thompson
was officially pronounced dead at the Emergency Room of a hospital

Emma died a brutal, horrific death in 2009. She was barely four (4) years old.
On 3/29/14, Emma would have been 9 years old.
