FAYETTEVILLE -- The scheduled court appearance of a Fayetteville mother accused of prostituting her 5-year old daughter, who ended up dead, has been continued until Aug. 11.

Antoinette Davis is charged with human trafficking, felony child abuse-prostiution and filing a false police report.

Davis reported her daughter, Shaniya, missing in November. The girl's body was found a few days later in a ditch in Lee County.

Mario Andrette McNeill is charged with kidnapping, raping and killing the girl.

Is she pregnant now? Is this the same pregnancy back in November, or is this another one?

I think it's the same pregnancy from November. I never heard anything about her having the baby and I think she was early in her pregnancy then. The baby should immediately be put into foster care after he or she is born.

And then the lady should get spayed.

Shaniya’s Dad Turns Tragedy Into Education

Brad Lockhart said it's been a difficult seven months since the death of his daughter, Shaniya Davis.

"It's been tough," he said.

Lockhart, who now lives in Alabama, was back in Fayetteville on Saturday for an event he hoped would turn his tragedy into something positive for the community.

"Nobody is exempt. Anybody can be this person standing here talking to you today, or be that child laying in the ditch on the side of the road like Shaniya was," he said.

Shaniya, who would have turned six years old Monday, was reported missing from her Fayetteville home November 10. Her body was found a week later in Lee County. Her mother has been charged with human trafficking and child abuse-prostitution, while another man has been charged with her murder.

Lockhart hoped Saturday's event, called "Shaniya Speaks Day," could educate the community about reporting violence and abuse, and also prevent similar tragedies in the future.

"I want the community to get a sense of there is hope, and we can prevent bad things happening to good people," said organizer Joe McGee.

The event included speakers, educational booths set up by local groups and organizations and also skits that aimed to educate families and children about violence and abuse.

Lockhart said people from as far as New Jersey came to Fayetteville for the event, which was held at the John D. Fuller Recreational Complex. He hopes to have the event every year around Shaniya's birthday.

"It's just a really big turnout," Lockhart said. "We're just excited we can actually take a horrific tragedy and turn it into something positive."

I don't see how anyone could be out on bond that prostituted their 5 year old daughter, which in turn led to her being murdered. She's a disgusting waste of flesh. She never loved Shaniya. I wonder if her older son is living with her. If he is, I'd say they won't take this baby and her mother or sister will get him and the newborn when she's sentenced. Hopefully this POS is going to be put away for a very, very long time. It's in the best interest of this baby to be adopted out, IMO.

There was a woman in my area that prostituted her 11 year old daughter to a known sex offender. He hadn't been out of prison for very long. They sentenced him to 18 years in a plea bargain deal. They sentenced the mom to life in prison, with the possibility of parole after 10 years. They've never released her name in order to protect the young girl.

Shaniya Davis case update: Court dates, resolving confusion, remembering Shaniya

Having trouble finding new Mario Andrette McNeill and Antoinette Nicole Davis updates and public information surrounding the case of murdered Shaniya Davis? There are various reasons as to why. The problem may track back to how one reads an inmate summary or submits a name entry.

Mario McNeill's next court date is scheduled for Oct. 28, 2010 at the Cumberland County Courthouse in room 2B surrounding first-degree rape and murder charges. The Central Prison inmate will face his next court date for first-degree kidnapping on Nov. 4, 2010 at the Cumberland County Courthouse in, again, 2B.

Antoinette Nicole Davis, on the other hand, is charged with human trafficking of a child, child abuse-prostitution, resisting a public officer and filing a false report. The next Cumberland County court date for Antoinette Davis is scheduled for Sept. 29, 2010 in room 2B for both felonies and both misdemeanors.

Thanks for the update Piper. I am following this case. Have not seen anything on it in a while.

This is very sad and tragic. Poor innocent child!

Piper, are these court dates added to our calendar on the home page? Maybe, if they are, we might be able to keep up with all the hearings that seem to be coming up soon, on all the cases we are following.

I never see any news on this case! I just happened to search the Fayetteville news one day only to find the POS mother had been released on bond, a very low bond........which outraged me. Her family members must be as screwed up as she is to pay it and get her out. Supposedly she is living with her aunt in Fayetteville, NC. I can't find any info on what happened to the child she gave birth to this year. If her aunt got custody thru CPS, then A. Davis is obviously living in the same house. How anyone could have any sympathy for this woman is beyond me. Her bond should have been set at 1 mil, or NO BOND. It worries me she's not going to get much time.........which is so, so wrong.

Mama, I did not send those dates to J4A to post.......my bad. Just found them today.......I had been searching the court records and could not find anything a few months ago. That article kind of explains why, it's the way their names are entered and how you search in order to find them.

I entered the dates after I read your post Piper. I try to post all court dates to the calendar as I see them in the articles. Sometimes I also search court records to find dates for the calendar. Please feel free to send me anything you want posted to the calendar. Sometimes I miss things, and many times the things I have posted end up getting moved to new dates. Most of the pre-trial and court appearance dates have been accurate, but I don't think any of the trials I have posted so far ended up starting on the first date they were scheduled.

I just posted a response to you on the calendar thread J4A! You can't post them if we don't tell you! I promise to do better, it's impossible for you to read every single word....I appreciate all that you do.

Cumberland awaits DSS probe after girl's slaying

Fayetteville, N.C. — Cumberland County's top prosecutor says he wants to see the results of an investigation into the county's social services department launched after a 5-year-old girl was kidnapped, raped and slain last year.

Prosecutor Ed Grannis requested the inquiry after questions were raised about the county’s contact with the family of Shaniya Davis before her disappearance. The Fayetteville girl was abducted and killed in November.

The Fayetteville Observer reported Sunday that the State Bureau of Investigation probe is finished, but Grannis has yet to meet with investigators or county officials.

The county agency was questioned after critics alleged documents might have been altered after the slaying.

Cumberland DA wants deeper probe of DSS in girl's death

Fayetteville, N.C. — Cumberland County District Attorney Ed Grannis said Wednesday that he's dissatisfied with a state investigation into the county's social services department after a 5-year-old girl was kidnapped, raped and killed last year.

"I do not feel that the crucial issues involved in this investigation have been sufficiently answered," Grannis said in a letter to the State Bureau of Investigation. "I am, therefore, requesting the assistance of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office to assist me in resolving remaining questions which I have concerning the Cumberland County Department of Social Services."

When I first read of this horrible tragedy, I "gave" this little girl the name of Shaniya Sweetsong, as she didn't deserve to have to be remembered with the name of that momster who failed her. I hope that this "person" is never allowed to have custody of another child, and pray that she is charged as an accomplice in Shaniya's murder, and is treated as such.

At a news conference Thursday afternoon, Grannis said problems started the day Davis was reported missing when DSS left detectives waiting hours for assistance.

"It was critically important that DSS cooperate in every way to save the life of this child, it does not appear that occurred," said Grannis.

Eventually, he said it took two court orders to force DSS to handover missing documents that were not included in an initial report to the DA's office.

Grannis also expressed his disappointment with the State Bureau of Investigation who he said referred to DSS's lack of cooperation as a misunderstanding - even after interviews with DSS staffers revealed high ranking supervisors told agents on the case to print emails and then delete them to prevent the media from accessing details in their investigation of the Davis Family.

"DSS staff was told to delete emails pertaining to this case, and to not email anymore information," said Grannis.

Slain 5-year-old girl remembered in Fayetteville

Fayetteville, N.C. — Family and friends gathered on Tuesday night to remember a 5-year-old Fayetteville girl found dead one year ago.

Shaniya Davis was reported missing from her Fayetteville home on Nov. 10, 2009. Her body was found in a patch of kudzu off a rural road near the Lee-Harnett County line six days later.

The memorial was held at Freedom International Ministries, 3421 Murchison Road.

Rachel Cox was living in New Jersey when she heard about Shaniya's death, and felt compelled to reach out to her family.

“She deserves to have a voice from all of us parents, all of us adults, all of the people who feel that this was such a tragedy but something good can come out of it,” Cox said Tuesday.

I am so angry over this. You can't find any new information and the court records search keeps giving me an error

This is so sad...I hope her mother will be found guilty when this finally does come to trial...She is jst as quilty as McNeill...SHe knew what that perv was gonna do that child as far as sexually molest her...I am surprised that the mother is still out of jail and that the courts have granted her all those continuances...It is an outrage and I'm mad as Hell...

Is there no law there that says once charged, a trial has to happen in X amount of time?! I cannot get over how long this case has taken to go to trial. Especially with all of the evidence that they have. It's not like they are waiting for the smoking gun or something.

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- The case of a 5-year-old North Carolina girl murdered in 2009 took a dramatic turn Wednesday with the indictment of her mother on first-degree murder charges.

Antoinette Davis, 27, had faced lower charges of human trafficking and child abuse involving prostitution in the death of her daughter Shaniya. She had been free on bond since early 2010.

Shaniya Davis disappeared from her Fayetteville home on November 10, 2009 and her body was found days later in a wooded area just south of Sanford.

Mother of slain Fayetteville girl charged with murder

Fayetteville, N.C. — The mother of a 5-year-old Fayetteville girl who was killed almost two years ago was indicted Wednesday in her death.

A Cumberland County grand jury indicted Antoinette Nicole Davis, 27, of 607 Mechanic St., on charges of first-degree murder, indecent liberties with a child, felony child abuse, felony sexual servitude, rape of a child, sexual offense of a child by an adult offender, human trafficking and making a false police report.

She was arrested and placed in the Cumberland County jail. She was denied bond on the murder charge, and bonds totaling $1.5 million were set for the other charges.

This is wonderful news and long overdue. Maybe it is a good thing. Law Enforcement took their time regarding evidence to ensure that the Prosecutor's will have a solid case against Antoinette Nicole Davis.

Wow, some good news this morning. I've been feeling there is no justice here, I'm so happy to hear this beast is behind bars. And you're so right Ann, they took their time and they will have a solid case. Each and every charge is appropriate for what she did. Let's hope she gets the maximum penalty allowed by law.

A judge has cleared the way for prosecutors to seek the death penalty against the man accused of killing 5-year-old Shaniya Davis in 2009.

Prosecutors, however, told Superior Court Judge Jim Ammons in a hearing Wednesday that they do not intend to seek the death penalty for her mother, Antoinette Davis, 27, who is accused of giving up her daughter to pay off a drug debt.

Mario Andrette McNeill, 31, and Davis are both charged with first-degree murder in Shaniya's death.

The egg donor should be charged with the same charges as McNeill...she gave her permission to use and abuse this poor child. She should share equally in the pennalties, none of which will bring this lovely child back to life.

I do hope that McNeill is found guilty and he is sentenced to death. What a henious crime against such a sweet, innocent child!

Antoniette Davis deserves the death penalty too. It is unfortunate that a U.S. Supreme Court decision in 1982, Enmund v. Florida, would preclude the death penalty because "Davis did not intend for her daughter to die."

Davis would not have sex with McNeill so she prostituted her innocent 5 year old child for the $200 she owed McNeill for drugs. What a piece of garbage for a mother who is suppose to be responsible for protecting her child.

I guess the only good thing about this case was the aggressive interviews of A. Davis by Law Enforcement. She "broke" and confessed to what happened to Shaniya. Otherwise, there is a strong possibility that McNeill would have gotten away with murder.

I don't blame LE for being aggressive in their interviews, especially with the last known person to see a child alive or with the person responsible for the child's well being at the time of their disappearance. The amount of lies told to LE must be staggering. If they start seeing inconsistencies in somebody's story or sense that somebody is holding back, that tells them there is a good chance the person is the perp or covering for the perp, and they need to be aggressive in their questioning.

Thanks for posting the updates at The Hinky Meter. It takes a long time for many of these cases go to trial and it's easy to lose track when a case goes many months without any news, but I do the best I can to keep track of them until there is a trial and a conviction.

Justice, you do an exceptional job of keeping track of these cases. You, like Val, work a full time job and have families.

If it was not for the many members at The Hinky posting updates as soon as possible on the various threads at THM, the site would flounder or Val would have to work triple time to keep the threads updated herself.

Once again, thank you for not only providing this site but having to keep the threads updated!

I wish I could keep more threads updated at RC than I do but I am involved in too many projects on a local and state level in my area. There's just not enough time!

It is amazing how despicable people can be. There are parents who would willingly give their lives for their children and then you get Antoinette Davis who hands over her daughter because she doesn't want to do the dirty deed of having sex with him ... but expects her 5 yo daughter to.

These two are so shallow and disgusting that I can't even look at their pics. IMO they both deserve the death penalty.

The two people accused in the 2009 slaying of 5-year-old Shaniya Davis pleaded not guilty to charges in separate appearances in Superior Court on Thursday.

Mario Andrette McNeil, 31, and Shaniya's mother, Antoniette Davis, 27, are each charged with first-degree murder, first-degree rape of a child, child abuse, human trafficking and sexual servitude.

Davis is accused of giving her daughter to McNeil as payment for a drug debt, authorities said.

McNeil is accused of raping and strangling Shaniya and dumping her body in woods off Walker Road near the Carolina Trace community.
