Catalin Hoard -- Found Alive 11/23/09

CONOVER, NC (WBTV) - The Conover Police Department is searching for a missing child: Catalin Hoard.

Catalin Hoard is a 2-month-old white female, approximately 16 inches long, weighing 10 pounds. She has black hair, and brown eyes.

Catalin was last seen wearing a white cradle cap with brown spots, a pink one piece garment with pictures of apples on it, pink pants, white socks.

Police are looking for one man in connection with the kidnapping, Raul Ortega.

Raul Ortega is described as approximately 34 years old, Hispanic, male, 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. Ortega was last seen wearing dark blue Duke sweat shirt, black wind pants.

Last seen at the address of 11192 Herman Sipe Road, and direction of travel is unknown.

The vehicle is a Blue 1980 Toyota Truck with NC license tag number XYN-9148. Vehicle has silver steps with large tires.

Conover is the town I just moved from, and Herman Sipe Road is two streets over from where I lived. This is beginning to hit too close to home.

The baby was rescued about 1am this morning, but kidnapper jumped from the car and ran from police. They are still trying to locate him.

Deputies in Davie County, NC, located Vidal's vehicle around 1 a.m. Monday heading east on I-40.

Deputies attempted to pull over Vidal's vehicle, but he refused to stop, police said. The highway patrol was called in to assist and they chased the vehicle for a brief time before terminating the pursuit since the baby was not in a child restraint seat.

Vidal eventually pulled over and took off running from the vehicle. Deputies found the baby in the vehicle and transported the child to a hospital to be examined. The child was reunited with her mother.

According to Conover Police, the AMBER Alert system assisted in helping authorities quickly locate the suspect's car and eventually locating the child.

Police were not able to apprehend Vidal who is describes as a Hispanic male. When he is located, he will be charged with first-degree kidnapping and assault on a female, police said.

So glad this had a happy ending for the baby...she'll never remember it...but I'm sure her mother will tell her all about it when she's old enough to comprehend...Let's just hope it doesn't happen to her again...We don't know the whole story, it could have been a car jacking and the perp didn't know about the baby...we'll just have to wait for "the rest of the story" as Paul Harvey would say...

great ending.. so nice to have one amidst all the tragedies lately!!!

From what I have heard from ppl in Conover, the perp broke into the trailer, and beat up the mother. She had said something to him earlier about his vulgar language in front of her and her niece. He beat her pretty badly, and took her baby when he left. He didn't have an infant seat, and just laid the baby in the front seat beside of him.

When LE realized the baby was not secured, they backed off their speed. He finally pulled over to the side of the road, jumped out and ran, leaving the car and baby behind. So far they still have not caught him.

The baby was recovered in Davey County, which is east of Conover on I-40, so he wasn't headed to Mexico. I guess he was headed to the beach. LOL

Thanks Mama for filling me in...I'm sure LE will get him sooner or later...I hope the mother is doing better and doesn't back down on pressing charges...There is absolutely no excuse for a man to hit a woman...of course unless it's self defense...I think he should have said OK...I won't curse...I'll just walk away...and left it at that...But sometimes adrenaline makes you do weird things...when it comes to fight or flight...I pick flight...even if it takes me a while to work up the courage and the money to go...

Thank goodness he didn't wreck while being pursued and LE slowed down the chase. I hope the mother is doing better. I'm sure seeing her baby made all the difference in the world, even though she had been beat up.
They'll find him, he's hiding in the woods...he'll come out, chicken *hit...beat up a woman and steal a baby.
