Amanda, Emma Thompson's maternal aunt, sought justice for Emma. Today she called me to advise me that she and others did not receive notification about Abigail Young's upcoming parole hearing until today. Some one dropped the ball!

Being that Amanda is Emma's maternal aunt, she plans to appear in front of the Parole Board to object to her sister, Abigail Young's parole. She also will write a letter opposing Abigail Young's parole.

Amanda is asking all who support justice for Emma to please write a letter to the Parole Board stating you oppose parole for Abigail Young.

After serving only 19 months of a 20 year (240 months) sentence, Abigail Young, the mother of 4-year-old Emma Thompson who was brutally raped and beaten to death by Abigail Young's boyfriend, Lucas Coe, on
6-27-09 is up for parole.

For your info, on 7-12-10, Abigail Young was found guilty of causing injury to a child by omission, but the jury found that she did so recklessly rather than knowingly and intentionally. Unfortunately, it was the lesser charge. Had it been knowingly and intentionally, Young could have been sentenced to Life in Prison without Parole.

On 7-13-10, Abigail Young was sentenced to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. She was taken into custody after sentencing. She is currently incarcerated in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison in Gatesville, Tx. (For your info, Lucas Coe was sentenced to Life without Parole and will never be eligible for parole)

Abigail Young did not express remorse for the death of Emma Thompson at her sentencing but her attorneys filed an Appeal of her conviction which was Affirmed (denied) by the Fourteenth Court of Appeals in Houston, Harris County, Tx. Then Young's attorneys filed a Motion for a Rehearing. That was OVERRULED by the Fourteenth Court of Appeals on 2/29/12.

Please, please, please write a letter opposing/protesting the parole of Abigail Young. You do not have to be a Texas resident. Any one in the world can write a letter protesting Young's parole. Your letter can be as simple as stating you oppose or protest parole for Abigail Young or you can explain why you feel Young should not be paroled. You can also include Links to media articles in your letter.

It would be best if you could send your letter by 3-21-12 but the cut off date is 4-30-12. For those of you that do not know me I am Amanda, Emma's maternal aunt! I have fought hard for justice for my beautiful Emma since she was taken away from us by the hands of Lucas Coe while my very own sister Abigail Young sat by and did not protect her! 20 years was her sentence and as Ann said above this is 240 months...Abigail Young has never once admitted she did wrong! Abigail Young has served only 17 months of her punishment for her crime and she continues to make it all about her innocence and finding a pardon, a retrial, or appeal! Her appeal was denied! She was rightfully convicted by a jury of 12 of her peers! So why such little time for A horrific crime on a beautiful sweet little girl that had her whole life ahead of her! This just shows what our tax dollars are going to! Our Justice system is so screwed up! Abigail has to be remorseful in order to rehabilitate! She has no remorse so therefore she should not be forgiven nor released this soon! Please if you feel like I do about this send a letter! And please send it quickly! Thank you RC for always keeping her thread up and for always seeking justice for my sweet little Emma!

Great news! KBTX (CBS) - Bryan will run a story about Abigail Young's parole on the 6 PM CST News tonight.

Today the reporter interviewed Amanda, Emma's maternal aunt, and two now former friends and next door neighbors of Abigail Young's for their report. The two neighbors testified for the Prosecution in the trials of Abigail Young and Lucas Coe as well as the Child Custody case regarding Abigail Young and her two other children.

KBTX plans to run the story about Young's parole tonight. Hopefully, they will post an article with a video clip later tonight on their website.

You can watch the 6 PM News via a Live Stream. Click on the Video Box at 6 PM CST. It only streams live during the news. If I remember correctly, it will go to a black (blank) screen during commercials and resume streaming when the news is back on after commercial breaks.

A former Brenham nurse who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for not protecting her daughter from an ex-boyfriend's physical and sexual abuse, is up for parole in August.

Her four year-old daughter died and according to Abigail Young's sentencing, she wasn't supposed to even be eligible for parole until after she served 5 years in jail.

News 3 has an exclusive interview with Young's sister, who is campaigning to keep her younger sister behind bars.

I find it disturbing that Ben Thompson, Emma's father, is not requesting that the media in the greater Houston area alert the public about Abigail Young's upcoming Parole Review.

In July, 2010, the Houston media quoted Ben Thompson stating to Abigail Young in a Victim Impact Statement during Young's sentencing that he would be at every one of her parole reviews to protest her parole.

I would think Ben Thompson would turn to the Houston media now for them to alert the public that Abigail Young is in "Parole Review status" and encourage every one to send letters to protest Young's parole regarding her 20 year sentence in the case of his 4-year-old daughter, Emma Thompson, who was brutally raped and beaten to death by Lucas Coe.

Abigail Young has been in "Parole Review status" since 2/21/12.

I wonder if Ben Thompson has made an appointment for an "in person" meeting with the Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles.

As Emma's next of kin and her father, Ben Thompson is allowed to meet in person with the Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles to protest Abigail Young's parole.

Ben, if you see this, I do hope you support justice for your precious daughter, Emma, and meet in person with the Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles to protest parole for Abigail Young.

As Emma's father, you could have an incredible impact with the Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles.

Emma Thompson died of child abuse injuries in
June of 2009.

Abigail Young, convicted a year and a half ago for failing to protect her four year old daughter, Emma Thompson from the sexual and physical abuse that killed her, will be eligible for parole in August.

Family members, including Young’s sister, say that she will oppose Abigail's parole.

Amanda Matthews tells KBTX News in Bryan that she is campaigning to keep her sister behind bars because she has not shown any remorse and without that remorse, she can’t be rehabilitated.

Young was arrested in August of 2009 after her daughter died in June of repeated abuse, broken bones and sexually transmitted diseases. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Lucas Cole was convicted of the actual abuse of the girl.

The parole reviews for Young began last month.

Abigail Young's hometown is Brenham, Tx. As posted in many mainstream media articles and videos about the Emma Thompson case, Margie Routt Young (who resides in Brenham and is the Director of Scott & White Hospital Foundation - Brenham, Tx), Abigail Young's mother, supported her daughter Abigail Young versus justice for Emma as Emma's case unfolded and during the trials. In fact, Routt Young, testified for the Defense at Abigail Young's trial. She did not even bother to attend Lucas Coe's trial and support justice for her granddaughter, Emma Thompson.

The local paper in Brenham, Tx ran an article today - front page news! It has taken about a week to get the Brenham paper to run an article about Abigail Young up for parole after serving only 19 months of a 20 year sentence.

It is not the article we hoped for but at least the word is out in Brenham, Young's hometown, and beyond (about Young's parole review) because the Brenham Banner has a huge subscription base to their hard copy. Also, they have on-line subscription.

Thanks for supporting justice for Emma Thompson by protesting Abigail Young's parole. 19 months out of a 20 year sentence is NOT justice for sweet, little 4-year-old Emma who died because of a brutal rape and horrific beating. Per Medical Examiner testimony, it took several hours for Emma to die a slow, painful death.

I will definitely be writing a letter...and I will campaign to my friends and others to do the same. Thank you for keeping us up to date on this! I drive by the Auburn Lakes subdivision once a week and cannot help but think of sweet Emma and how she spent her last hours. Her mother knew what was happening and she did nothing to help Emma until she knew she would die. Didnt the mother even help bathe unconsious Emma so there would be no evidence? This case sickens me to no end. In many ways her mother is worse than Coe...since she did nothing to protect her daughter. She deserves to stay in jail the rest of her life.

Every letter counts and we want the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles to get thousands of letters protesting Young's parole.

Abigail Young needs to serve every day of her 20 year sentence. Emma was murdered and Young is up for parole after serving only 19 months of a 20 year sentence! It is not justice for sweet, precious Emma.

I can understand why you would think of precious Emma every time you drive by the Auburn Lakes subdivision. One can only imagine what innocent, defenseless Emma endured in Abigail Young's home.

Yes, Emma was cleaned up before Abigail Young carried her out to the car. In one of the earlier mainstream media articles, a neighbor was quoted as saying Abigail said she bleached her bathroom, etc. before she took Emma out to her car.

During testimony at Lucas Coe's trial, the Emergency Room nurse noted Emma's hair was clean and wet with just a little bit of blood. She testified that with the type of head injury Emma had, there should have been a tremendous amount of blood and Emma's hair should have been saturated with blood.

Young, a Registered Nurse at the time, tried to super glue Emma's fractured skull. The Emergency Room nurse testified the doctor would never have done that and Emma's injury would have required sutures.

Abigail even told neighbors that she cleaned Emma internally real good with bleach. Sounds like she was trying to make sure no DNA of Lucas Coe would be found. What a sick monster!

Thank you for writing a letter. It is outrageous that Abigail Young is up for "Parole Review" after serving only 19 months of a 20 year sentence! Every letter counts and every letter will be read by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles.

Emma Thompson was a precious, little 4-year-old. She captured the hearts of many.

In Texas, the bluebonnets are bursting into bloom. Whenever I see a bluebonnet, I now think of little Emma. The picture of Emma in the bluebonnets was taken Easter Sunday, April - 2009, at the maternal family ranch.

A little over two months later, June 27, 2009, Emma died of her injuries as a result of the brutal rape and horrific beating by Lucas Coe, Abigail Young's boyfriend.

Young did nothing to protect her daughter, Emma. In my opinion, Abigail Young should serve every day of her 20 year sentence!

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- It was a case that shocked the nation -- an innocent little girl sexually assaulted in a savage attack that killed her. While the man responsible is locked up for life, the victim's mother who failed to protect her is now up for parole.

Emma Thompson's grandmother is pushing to keep Emma's mother in prison. The grandmother fears she could hurt another child if set free.

Emma's 2009 death was horrific. She had more than 80 bruises and a fractured skull. Her mother's boyfriend, Lucas Coe, was sentenced to life in prison for his role in the murder.

I am completely shocked that Abigail Young is already up for parole considering that she's served less than 10% of her sentence. Parole shouldn't even be a consideration at this point ... or any time soon.

For heavens sake she was supposed to protect Emma and keep her out of harms way ... but of course she didn't. Not only did she know that Emma had a sexually transmitted disease but she very likely continued sleeping with Emma's abuser. She covered up his crimes and she "allowed"Emma to be physically and sexually abused and murdered.

PLEASE send those letters and make sure that her cell is the only home she knows for the next decade or two.

For your info, during the trials of Abigail Young and Lucas Coe, testimony and cell phone records introduced into evidence by the Prosecution indicated that Abigail Young was on her cell phone while strangers were tending to Emma, giving CPR to Emma (in an effort to revive Emma) until EMS arrived. Abigail Young was a Registered Nurse at the time! As EMS worked to revive Emma, Abigail Young was on her cell phone.

I am writing you to request that Abigail Young be kept in custody of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. I do not feel like she has served enough of her sentence to be granted freedom.

I was on the Cypress Creek EMS crew that responded to the 911 call for Emma. I have been a volunteer firefighter with Klein for the past 5 years and a volunteer driver/EMT with Cypress Creek EMS for almost 4 years. I can honestly say that this is the only call out of hundreds that sticks with me to this day. It isn’t just Emma’s young age that has affected me but it is the brutality of the crime. I can’t even fathom how a parent could allow their child to be treated in such a manner and not step in to protect them. Abigail Young violated the most basic of parental responsibilities which is to protect them from harm at all costs. And for what? A boyfriend? How selfish can a person be to let their boyfriend treat their child like this, with full knowledge that these atrocities are occurring?

I never felt like Ms. Young really felt very bad about what happened. In fact it wasn’t until we went en-route to the hospital that Ms. Young decided to hang up her cell phone. Not to mention that she; a registered nurse; was not performing CPR on her own child when we arrived on scene. She was allowing bystanders to do it. I am sure that if it was your child you would be doing everything possible to help, not talking on the phone. I personally do not feel like a person with Ms. Young’s mentality should be let off easy after serving the bare minimum of her sentence. She needs to continue to serve out her sentence so she can think about all of the people that her actions affected, not to mention Emma’s death.

Hi Ann. Yes I have emailed a letter.

Since I started following these crimes I have noticed how seldom a successful conviction follows. It is bad enough that children are reported missing and are either found dead or are never seen again ... and in most cases, no one is ever held accountable. So when there is a conviction I believe we need to do our utmost to ensure that the guilty parties are punished and that their punishment matches their deeds.

This is a short excerpt from the letter I sent.

There is no true justice for children who have been violated in this way and whose life was taken from them. We cannot give their innocence back to them, we cannot undo what was done and we cannot bring these children back to life … so please do not take away what little justice there was for Emma. What type of society would allow a mother to treat her daughter this way and then walk free?

I strongly believe that we need to make an effort to ensure that a message is sent that it is not okay to use, abuse and discard of the most innocent members of our society.

Texas…we have a problem. Don’t roll your eyes and sigh thinking that there is nothing that can be done to fix a criminal justice system that is an honest to goodness joke. You hear a lot about exonerations, ole Texas leads the nation in both DNA and non-DNA exonerations but even when we get the right person locked up, keeping them there is subjective and wrought with problems. The story about little Emma Thompson is one that truly breaks my heart…to this day.

The details are heart wrenching, disgusting and troubling. A Houston jury in September of 2010 sentenced Lucas Coe, who raped his girlfriend’s 4-year-old daughter shortly before her death, to life in prison and a $10,000 fine. Neither Coe nor his family members reacted to the verdict. Jurors convicted Coe, 28, of super aggravated sexual assault of a child in visiting state District Judge Doug Shaver’s court. The case stemmed from the June 27, 2009, death of Emma Thompson, whom authorities said died from abdominal trauma. She arrived at the hospital with more than 70 bruises, a busted lip and a fractured skull. She also had a sexually transmitted disease.

For those living in the greater Houston area and beyond:

The Harris County Child Abuse Task Force, Houston, Tx, has made a case study of the Emma Thompson case.

They are hosting a one day seminar with outstanding speakers. If you are interested and available, I urge you to attend.

For your info, two of the guest speakers, Tina Ansari and Colleen Barnett, were the Prosecutors for the State of Texas in the Abigail Young trial and Lucas Coe trial.

I am very, very disappointed that I will not be able to attend. I have a prior committment in Houston, Tx for the day of the seminar, 4-12-12.

I contacted the Harris County Child Abuse Task Force and was told April 12, 2012, is the only day this important seminar will be presented.

CEUs (Continuing Education Units) will be provided for LPC, LMFT, Social Work, and TCLEOSE.
