WEST CHESTER, Ohio -- West Chester police issued an amber alert Thursday for a 12-year-old girl who may have been abducted by a family friend.

Brianna Moniz was reported missing from Lakota Ridge Junior High School.

Police said witnesses saw Moniz get into a car belonging to, Rob Rethamel, 39. Police said Rethamel is the brother of the boyfriend of Moniz's mother.

Moniz is described as 5 feet 2 inches tall and 110 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a white jacket and jeans.

Rethamel is described as 6 feet tall and 198 pounds. He has dirty blond hair and blue eyes. Rethamel may be driving a white 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck with Ohio license plate No. EWU4540.

Police said they are investigating as a kidnapping because Rethamel does not have custody of the girl nor permission to pick her up from school.

An initial search of state and local databases showed that Rethamel is not a registered sex offender.

WEST CHESTER TWP. — West Chester Police have found a 12-year-old girl suspected of being kidnapped around 9 a.m. today, Oct. 14 from Lakota Ridge Junior School.

Brianna Moniz was returned back to her school just after 11 a.m. when the Amber Alert to find her was canceled. Around 8:25 a.m. her uncle, Rob Rethamel, was suspected of picking her up from school without her parents’ permission, according to police.

School spokeswoman Laura Kursman said prior to entering the building, the girl was seen by school officials leaving with a man and questioned the situation. They contacted the parents, who also were concerned.

Administrators contacted parents through the auto call system and met with students to discuss the situation.

Police have not yet issued a statement on what happened and if there will be charges filed.

The school officials were alert and LE were on the ball. I'm glad she's okay. It wasn't her uncle, it was her mom's boyfriend's brother. They are still looking for him and considering it a kidnapping. Hopefully it was some kind of misunderstanding, but she got off the bus at school and got in the car with him. They haven't released where her took her or what happened.

Man connected to Amber Alert case charged with raping child

WEST CHESTER TWP. — A 39-year-old West Chester Twp. man suspected of taking a 12-year-old girl from Lakota Ridge Junior School last week, prompting an Amber Alert, has been charged in an unrelated rape, and is in Butler County Jail.

Officers say the charge of child rape is not related to the Amber Alert, but the victim of the rape is under the age of 13.

A nationwide alert was canceled Thursday, Oct. 14 when the Lakota Ridge student reported missing returned to school about 11 a.m. Police searched for Rethamel and found him early Saturday morning when he was arrested after a traffic stop in the township , according to West Chester Twp. police Lt. Dave Tivin.

His bond is $20,130, according to the Butler County Jail.

Yeah, it's pretty freaky. They still haven't released what happened to Brianna in the hours she was missing, now this charge on the rape of another child. It took them a couple of days to locate him. Here's his arrest picture:
