BOISE -- Melissa Jenkins appeared in state district court outside the presence of the jury Monday...as attorneys began setting the stage for her upcoming testimony in the trial of the man charged with killing her son, eight-year-old Robert Manwill.

Jenkins, in shackles, passed just inches from her former boyfriend, murder defendant Daniel Ehrlick, as she entered court. Issues discussed included the limits of her immunity.

Boise, Idaho -- Melissa Jenkins will testify at the trial against her former boyfriend Daniel Ehrlick.

Today the judge in Ehrlick's Murder trial granted Jenkins continued immunity if she testifies.

Jenkins has already pleaded guilty at her own trial, to second degree murder in the death of her son eight-year-old Robert Manwill.

Her testimony against Daniel Ehrlick could be very damaging.

Melissa Jenkins walked into Ada County courtroom number 508.

She looked straight ahead and sometimes down to avoid eye contact with the defendant Daniel Ehrlick.

Per the above articles, Melissa Jenkins, Robert Manwill's mother may testify as early as tomorrow or it could be later this week.

She is known as a habitual liar by police and some attorneys.

It was an interesting day in the Daniel Ehrlick trial. Besides today's testimony, Melissa Jenkins made an appearance!

Per the articles I posted on Robert Manwill's thread at Reality Chatter, Melissa Jenkins, Robert Manwill's mother, may testify as early as tomorrow or it could be later this week.

There will be heavy local (Boise, Idaho) media coverage the day Jenkins testifies. It is long awaited testimony.

This trial is in its fifth week. There is no indication of when the Prosecution will rest its case.

I wish InSession would have covered the Daniel Ehrlick trial in the horrific murder case of Robert Manwill. The national media were on top of this story when this case unfolded.

I realize it is all about ratings with the national media and the Casey Anthony trial preempted the Daniel Ehrlick trial. I will never forget the long term abuse Robert endured prior to death, his horrific murder and the fact that this innocent, defenseless child was weighted down with rocks and tossed in the New York Canal in Boise, Idaho.

I think this is a trial that should have received national media attention. Just too horrific. National media attention would have brought awareness to horrific child abuse that led to the death of Robert Manwill.

I commend the Boise, Idaho media for the intense coverage of Ehrlick's trial. I wish I could have flown to Boise to attend a few days of Robert's trial. I strongly support justice for little Robert!

Fourth District Judge Darla Williamson gave Melissa Jenkins a direct message Monday.

“I do want to tell Ms. Jenkins, I expect you to testify truthfully,” Williamson said.

Jenkins, who nodded back, had been brought into the same courtroom where her former boyfriend Daniel Ehrlick has spent the past few weeks being tried on first-degree murder charges. “I remind you, if you don’t, you could be charged with perjury,” Williamson told her.

BOISE -- An emotional day in court today as Ehrlick's father testified against his son for almost three hours.

Daniel Ehrlick is on trial for the murder of his former girlfriend's son, 8-year-old Robert Manwill.

'He was a great kid'

As soon as Daniel Ehrlick's father, Dan Ehrlick Sr. began talking about Robert, he broke down.

A picture of Robert was up on the screen behind him as he described how much he loved talking to Robert about fishing and camping and the military.

"He was a great kid... Oh, he was a talker," Daniel Ehrlick Sr. testified. "He always like to talk the first summer [in 2008]."

It was a difficult day on the witness stand for Daniel Ehrlick Sr.

He broke down on the stand several times when Robert Manwill came up.

Robert had clearly been like a grandson to him.

It didn't take long for Ehrlick Sr. to get emotional on the stand.

"Mr. Ehrlick, did you know Robert Manwill," asked a deputy prosecutor.

"Yes I did," said Daniel Ehrlick Sr. choking back tears and putting his head in his hands.

His son, Daniel Ehrlick Jr. is charged with the murder of 8-year-old Robert Manwill.

A photo of the boy was shown to him in court and it touched an emotional chord.

Sweetwater attorney reportedly pulled gun on police officer

Sweetwater's police chief said Tuesday that an area attorney pulled a gun on a police officer before being taken to jail early Monday morning.

Attorney John Young was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and taken to the Nolan County jail, where he was released after posting a $12,000 bond.

According to Sweetwater police chief Jim Kelley, around 12:15 a.m. Monday, an on-duty officer was "staying at a house in the 2100 block of Robert Lee with his ex-wife."

Per this article, John Young was not tested for alcohol via blood or breath analysis! No alcohol related charges were filed. This is unbelievable.

It sounds like the Texas Rangers need to investigate the Sweetwater Police Dept.

BOISE -- One-hundred witnesses have now been called to testify against Daniel Ehrlick in his murder trial.

Today was day 20 of prosecutors trying to prove to the jury that Ehrlick murdered 8-year-old Robert Manwill in 2009.

The first two-and-a-half hours were dedicated to one witness, a Boise Police detective who worked closely with Ehrlick and Jenkins.

We also heard from several people who knew Robert.

"He would always leave with a hug and say, 'You're the best teacher ever!' He was a sweet little boy," Robert's first grade teacher Karen Harshman said.

Throughout the trial, several witnesses have said that they were there because of Robert.

Boise, Idaho -- Police say Melissa Jenkins and Daniel Ehrlick were faking emotion at news conferences for missing Robert Manwill.

Police say the pair was uncooperative and at times even hostile.

There was more damaging evidence for the defendant in court today.

Daniel Ehrlick is charged with first degree murder in the death of 8-year-old Robert Manwill.

"I don't trust cops, especially not here in Boise, ever since I've been burnt," said Melissa Jenkins, Robert Manwill's mother (Jenkins plead guilty to 2nd degree murder for her role in his death and avoided the death penalty).

Jenkins and Ehrlick were recorded by police a day after her son Robert went missing.

Ehrlick trial continues with testimony from police, neighbors

Testimony in Day 20 of Daniel Ehrlick’s first-degree murder trial Wednesday concentrated on two things that have come up a lot so far — how police interacted with Ehrlick and Melissa Jenkins in the days following Robert Manwill’s reported disappearance July 24, 2009, and whether neighbors in the same apartment complex saw the boy on the playground or heard about a birthday party that day.

Not surprisingly, the answers were the same as well. Police say they had a hard time getting straight answers from Jenkins or Ehrlick, and neighbors who were at the Oak Park Village pool the night of July 24 said they didn’t see Robert.

Expert Says Manwill Likely Tortured

BOISE, Idaho -- "When you look at this position -- it's a humiliation -- your head is bowed in shame, your hands are behind you."

The description, by leading torture expert Dr. Allen Keller of New York University, marked just one piece of evidence supplied by state prosecutors on day 21 of the trial against 39 year-old Daniel Ehrlick.

In the picture, a subject is kneeling in the corner of a room with his head pressed into a wall. This, according to detectives, is just one form of punishment 8 year-old Robert Manwill was subject to before he died in the summer of 2009.

Daniel Ehrlick is accused of torturing Robert Manwill and causing that death.

Boise, Idaho -- The jury in the Daniel Ehrlick trial heard from Robert Manwill's dad for the first time today.

Charles Manwill has been in the courtroom ever since the trial began 22 days ago. He has been out of the public eye since Robert's death, until he was called to the stand today.

"I drove back over to the Oak Park Village apartments and made sure that he was able to get into the apartment safely," said Manwill. The Prosecutor then asked, "Did you ever see Robert after that?" Manwill replied, "I did not."

Manwill says June 16, 2009 was the last time he saw his son Robert whose body was found in the New York Canal later that summer.

BOISE -- Charles Manwill, Robert's father, choked with emotion at times on the witness stand Friday, especially when he told jurors how a previous wife in a former marriage was charged with in the death of his older son in the 1990s.

Manwill said he left Robert with her mother, his ex-wife, Melissa Jenkins, in the summer of 2009 as required by custody law and the rules of his employer, the Idaho National Guard.

Charles Manwill broke down for a brief moment Friday when he explained to an Ada County jury that Robert Manwill was not the only son he has lost to violence.

Manwill, a veteran of the first Gulf War who works at Gowen Field, started to cry when he talked about his first child, Michael Manwill, who was killed by his mother in Louisiana while Manwill was on active duty in 1993.

Manwill’s ex-wife eventually pleaded guilty to manslaughter and went to prison. His parents took custody of his other son while he tried to figure out what to do next.

“I didn’t know how to deal with loss ... I lost everything that mattered to me,” Manwill said.

He eventually found his way to Melissa Jenkins and a second tragedy: the death of his son Robert in the summer of 2009.

Jurors Watch Video Of Ehrlick Confrontation In Court On Monday

Boise -- It was day 23 in the murder trial of Daniel Ehrlick, and Monday jurors heard the tape of a Boise Police Detective confronting Ehrlick about Robert Manwill's disappearance.

In the recording the detective said, "Your not acting like an appropriate parent that's just lost their child, at all. None whatsoever. I've been doing this 21 years and he's been doing it 30. This is the first time we've ever ran into this situation with a parent who's lost their child."

BOISE -- Now in week six, prosecutors are continuing their case against Daniel Ehrlick, who's accused of murdering his then-girlfriend's son Robert Manwill.

Prosecutors focused on one roughly 24-hour period nearly a week after Ehrlick reported Robert missing. That day, police and FBI agents interviewed and interrogated Ehrlick for hours.

The first interview was videotaped and went for about an hour-and-a-half. During that interview an FBI agent talks with Ehrlick, mostly about possible suspects.

BOISE -- Prosecution in the Daniel Ehrlick murder trial rested its case just after 11 a.m. Tuesday without calling the mother of the young victim to the stand.

Melissa Jenkins could have been called to testify against her former boyfriend, Daniel Ehrlick, who is accused of murdering her son, 8-year-old Robert Manwill.

The court ruled to compel her testimony last summer; earlier this year, she pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the torture murder of her son. Prosecutors could have asked her about the plea, but not who she aided and abetted. Because she hasn't testified, as of now, the jury will not consider her plea in their deliberations.

The trial resumed today with the Defense calling their witnesses.

Some were teens who claimed they saw Robert the day he went "missing."

On cross, the Prosecution focused on the discrepancies in their previous statements made to Law Enforcement as Robert's case unfolded in 2009.

Some Boise media are reporting this case might go to the jury for deliberations next week (per the Judge's estimation). It could be next Thursday. We shall see!

BOISE, Idaho -- Defense attorneys in the Daniel Ehrlick murder trial spent much of the day establishing that 8 year-old Robert Manwill was outside playing near his apartment the day he went missing.

6 witnesses gave testimony, of which three swore they saw 8 year-old Robert Manwill outside playing the day he went missing. Several others testified they saw Ehrlick searching for the boy and calling his name.

Ehrlick is accused of slowly torturing Manwill and eventually killing him during the summer of 2009. They allege the torture and murder happened when Manwill came to visit his biological mother who was staying with Ehrlick.

Daniel Ehrlick’s first-degree murder trial: 3 say they saw Robert Manwill on July 24

Prosecutors home in on inconsistent stories and possible mistaken identities in Daniel Ehrlick’s trial.

Jurors in Daniel Ehrlick’s first-degree murder trial spent the past five weeks hearing how no one saw Robert Manwill near his Boise Bench apartment the day he was reported missing.

On the first day of Ehrlick’s defense, though, they heard from three neighbors, including a 15-year-old boy, who say they did — either by the pool or the playground of the apartment complex.

That’s where Ehrlick told police the boy had been before he went missing.

Ada County prosecutors found holes in those stories, however, either inconsistencies in what the witnesses have said in the past or indications they may have mistakenly thought another boy was Robert.

BOISE -- Daniel Ehrlick took the stand for the first time in his own defense Monday.

Ehrlick is accused of abusing 8-year-old Robert Manwill, which the prosecution says lead to the boy's death.

Thousands of Boise residents helped to search for the boy for more than one week after he was reported missing. Robert's body was found August 3, 2009, in an irrigation canal near Kuna.

Ehrlick took the stand just after 10 a.m. Monday and he was questioned by the defense until 1:30 p.m.

Prosecutor tries to show Ehrlick as a man who lies

BOISE -- After the defense rested, the prosecution then cross-examined Daniel Ehrlick.

Their focus was to challenge Ehrlick's credibility and character.

The prosecution questioned Ehrlick for about 15 minutes Monday.

Much of the questioning centered around Melissa Jenkins' son, Aidan.

The defense portrayed Daniel Ehrlick as a good father figure to Robert Manwill's baby brother and Melissa Jenkins' other son, Aidan.

"I just believed that he had to have a father," said Ehrlick.

Ehrlick testified that even though he knew Aidan wasn't his biological son, he and Jenkins agreed to put Ehrlick's name on the birth certificate.

Ehrlick testified he needed Jenkins' permission to discipline Robert

BOISE-- Daniel Ehrlick said Melissa Jenkins was Robert's disciplinarian.

Sometimes he punished Robert Manwill but only after getting permission from Jenkins.

His story is much different from Jenkins version, who testified earlier this year that Ehrlick was abusing her son.

At her trial in January, Jenkins said Ehrlick intentionally inflicted pain upon her son for long periods of time.

When it was his turn to take the stand, Ehrlick said that was never the case.

Ehrlick testified that Jenkins had concerns about Robert's behavior, and it was she who doled out punishments.

Breaking News!

It was anticipated the trial would "go late" today. Since the Defense rested, the Judge will recess until Thursday.

Daniel Ehrlick was on the stand being questioned by the State on cross.

Per the Judge, the Defense and the State have rested their cases.

Because of a trial docket conflict, the Judge will resume the trial on Thursday, 6-30-11, at 1:00 MDT.

The Judge said Closing Arguments will start at that time. The State will present their Closing Arguments, then the Defense will present their Closing Arguments. The State will have the option to rebut the Defense's Closing Arguments.

The Judge will then advise which of the 15 jurors will be the jury to deliberate and who the 3 alternates are. She will give instructions to the jury and they will start deliberation on the case.

On a lighter note, the Judge told the jury she ordered a special lunch for them and they are free to stay and enjoy lunch. One juror asked her what is for lunch. Every one laughed.

The Judge is a female and she seems to be very nice to the jurors!

Justice will come soon for little Robert Manwill. I hope Daniel Ehlrick if found guilty as charged!

BOISE -- Both the defense and prosecuction in the Daniel Ehrlick murder trial rested today.

Ehrlick is accused of abusing 8-year-old Robert Manwill, which the prosecution says ultimately lead to the boy's death.

Robert was missing for more than one week before his body was found in an irrigation canal near Kuna on August 3, 2009.

Monday, the defense questioned Daniel Ehrlick for the better part of the day. You can read about that line of questioning by clicking here.

Today, it was the prosecution's turn.

Robert's discipline

The prosecution began their line of questioning by asking Daniel about the types of punishments Robert endured, specifically "dead bug." The prosecution also asked Daniel if he and Melissa hid Robert in a closet during a health and welfare check because he had bruises from being disciplined.

jurors for the Ehrlick had to fill out a lengthy, 40-page questionnaire.

They were assembled in the courthouse, in the presence of a judge and could not talk to anyone as they filled it out.

Once completed, the forms were returned immediately back to the court.

Not only does the questionnaire give the judge and attorneys background on potential jurors, it outlines strict rules jurors have to follow once the trial begins.

Any breach of it could result in a mistrial.

Ehrlick Denies Torturing Manwill; Both Sides Rest Case

Daniel Ehrlick admitted, Tuesday, to punishing eight-year-old Robert Manwill by placing his knee - backed by the full 270-pound weight of his body - onto Manwill's chest while the child held his arms and legs aloft.

Still, the accused murderer maintained that the treatment he calls the "dead-bug" position was discipline and not abuse.

"I wasn't abusing Robert," Ehrlick said.

The prosecutor then asked Ehrlick how he'd feel if a foster parent performed the same punishment to Melissa Jenkins' other son, Aden.

"Would that be OK with you?" she asked.

Ehrlick paused.

"I'd say no," he said.

'Dead bugging' technique used by Ehrlick questioned by prosecutor

BOISE -- Ada County prosecutors focused their cross examination of Daniel Ehrlick on contradictions he made by during questioning about "dead bugging."

The prosecution argued that Ehrlick caused a fatal blow to Robert Manwill by dropping all of his weight on the boy during one of his punishments.

The defense claiming Ehrlick never put his weight on Robert, or dead bugged him.

Throughout Tuesday morning the prosecution grilled Daniel Ehrlick about details he told detectives during the search for Robert Manwill and during his testimony Monday.

BOISE -- After 27 days of testimony from more than 100 witnesses, all that's left in Daniel Ehrlick’s murder trial are closing arguments before the jury decides whether Ehrlick is guilty of murdering 8-year-old Robert Manwill.

It has taken 23 months to get to this point.

It all began on the night of July 25, 2009. That is the first time that the public found out that police were searching for an 8-year-old boy from the Boise Bench.

I will have an open window for this! I look forward to the Closing Arguments and I can hardly wait until a verdict is returned. I wonder how long the jury will deliberate.

I hope Daniel Ehrlick is found guilty. Robert Manwill endured torture and abuse for quite some time before his death. Then after he died, he was weighted down with rocks and tossed in the New York Canal not far from where he lived with his mother and her boyfriend, Daniel Ehrlick.

It is heart breaking to think about the horrific abuse and torture sweet little Robert endured and how he was tossed into the Canal where he eventually floated to the top after being in that canal for days!
