Dunn Search Warrant Affidavits Being Held in Howard County

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- Efforts by KTXS to obtain search warrant affidavits from Howard County were unsuccessful.

These affidavits are filed by law enforcement to obtain a warrant. Two such affidavits were filed in separate district courts Thursday to search the home of the only named suspect in the case, Shawn Adkins, and to search his body, presumably for DNA evidence.

Affidavits often contain critical information from law enforcement about the state of an investigation, and what new evidence law enforcement has procured.

Judge John G. Hyde of the 238th District Court released the following statement:

"On Thursday, March 17, Judge John Hyde authorized an evidentiary search warrant for Howard County law enforcement officers in connection with an existing criminal investigation.

The search warrant is in the possession of Howard County officers at this time and Judge Hyde declines to release any information regarding an ongoing criminal investigation." The release is signed by Cindy Hall, Court Coordinator.

I, like many, would like to read the Affidavits. However, I commend Judge Hyde for not releasing them!

This does not surprise me at all. This case is under active investigation and I feel this info does not need to be released to the media at this time.

There really does not need to be any speculation, i.e., like Law Enforcement is doing blah, blah, blah, regarding what is in the affidavits.

For those who are not familiar with Texas law and jurisdictions, The Texas Ranger Division, commonly called the Texas Rangers, is a law enforcement agency with statewide jurisdiction in Texas, and is based in Austin, Texas.

They are an agency of the State of Texas Department of Public Safety.

They are the best of the best!

As this case unfolded, the Colorado City Police Department requested the assistance of the Texas Rangers and the FBI.

Like many rural counties, including the one I reside in, LE does not have the resources like major metro areas such as Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, etc. We, as Texans, are so very fortunate to have the Texas Rangers available to us.

Billie Jean Dunn has made the news world wide from New York to California to the U.K. and beyond!

There are many articles about her arrest! Besides affiliate TV stations, once AP (Associated Press) picks up the story, then many news media sources pick up the story.

SNYDER, Texas -- Search warrant affidavits acquired by KTXS through the Freedom of Information Act show the warrant used by law enforcement in Scurry County Thursday night was used to look for more child pornography.

According to the warrant affidavit, law enforcement believes that Shawn Adkins, the only named suspect in the disappearance of 13 year old Hailey Dunn of Colorado City, is in possession of child pornography, namely, visual material like photographs and video footage.

The affidavit also mentions that pornographic images were found on Adkins' cell phone, and in the computer of Renee Norwood in Dunn, Texas. This same home was where investigators served the warrant Thursday and took electronic devices. Another resident of that home told authorities that Shawn Adkins used their computer "all the time".

The warrant also mentions that 2 Kodak Easy Share cameras were in the home, and that pornographic images found on Adkins' phone were taken on a Kodak Easy Share camera. Investigators planned to seize the two cameras looking for more evidence.

The warrant, issued by the district judge in Scurry County, gave law enforcement the right to take cameras, cell phones, computers, printers, and other devices which may contain child pornography.

J. Bruce Flournoy, of the Garza County Sheriff's Department, issued the request. He goes on to add that pornographic images have been found on every electronic device that law enforcement has been able to search. Shawn Adkins, according to the affidavit, doesn't own a computer, and has been using friends' and relatives' computers. All of the other users of those computers, according to the affidavit, deny any knowledge of child pornography on their devices.

Another warrant was issued, out of Howard County, but the judge in that case has refused to give the search warrant affidavits to the media. That warrant is believed to have been for body of Shawn Adkins. Most likely to obtain DNA evidence.

SNYDER, Texas -- According to law enforcement authorities, more pornography – including child pornography – has been found on devices used by Shawn Adkins, the only named suspect in the disappearance of Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn.

According to search warrant affidavits acquired Friday by KTXS through the Freedom of Information Act, a warrant used by law enforcement in Scurry County on Thursday was specifically intended to look for more child pornography on computers, discs and other digital devices Adkins has been using.

The affidavits stated that pornography has been found on a second computer that Adkins used – and on his personal cell phone.

The files containing the pornography had been deleted but were recovered by law enforcement experts in computer and digital forensics.

According to the affidavit, law enforcement believes that Adkins was in possession of child pornography, namely visual material like photographs and video footage.

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- Billie Dunn, the mother of missing teenager Hailey Dunn, admitted Friday that she lied to police on Thursday, prompting her arrest.

Billie Dunn, after spending about 19 hours in jail, admitted to several reporters that she lied when law enforcement officers came to her house looking for Shawn Adkins, her former live-in boyfriend.

She was released about 1:45 p.m. Friday, after her mother paid about $650, or 10 percent of the bonds of $6,500 that were set by a judge earlier Friday.

COLORADO CITY, Texas — The mother of a missing 13-year-old West Texas cheerleader has been charged with lying to police about the whereabouts of her boyfriend, who was previously named as a person of interest in the teen's disappearance, authorities said.

Billie Jean Dunn was arraigned Friday on charges of misdemeanor hindering prosecution, possession of a dangerous drug and giving a false report to an officer after authorities came to her home looking for her boyfriend.

Dunn first reported her daughter, Hailey Darlene Dunn, missing on Dec. 28 from their Colorado City home. The woman's boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, has said he last saw Hailey a day earlier when she told him she was going to her father's home nearby and then on to spend the night at a friend's home. She did neither.

Authorities confiscated electronic items from the home where suspect Shawn Adkins lives in the Scurry County community of Dunn. They were serving a search warrant out of Scurry County.

A second search warrant, served Thursday evening at the home of Billie Dunn, was a warrant for Adkins' body, signed by a Howard County judge. According to Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs, they were looking for an item Adkins commonly carries with him. He did not have it on him, Toombs said.

In a statement to Bigcountryhomepage.com's Andrew Carlson, Billie admitted lying to police about the whereabouts of Shawn Adkins. She didn't want to explain why. She said Shawn was at her house because he wanted to talk to her about something, but she didn't specify what.

The drug charge against her is bogus, she said, because while her name wasn't on the label, it was her own prescription.

I have not seen any videos or read any articles where Billie Jean Dunn has spent time at the Search Center assisting organizers with paper work or whatever.

Initially the searches took place during near freezing weather and freezing weather. I did not see Billie Jean Dunn even serving coffee, hot chocolate, water or whatever to the searchers, when they returned to the Search Center, who braved the frigid temps and the rugged terrain.

I think Mark Klaas was able to persuade Billie Jean Dunn to make a brief appearance at the Search Center.

Authorities say it's too early to tell if additional child pornography was discovered in the search of Shawn Adkins' grandmother's home in Dunn Thursday evening.
Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs says a number of electronic devices were removed from the home. Those devices will be sent for testing.

Toombs says this is the third search of the home in Dunn, Texas. He said the second search was consensual. Toombs noted pornography was discovered in the second search, but he couldn't confirm it to be child pornography. Toombs says the images are in the process of being analyzed.

COLORADO CITY - Court documents obtained by NewsWest9 say that more pornography and possible child pornography has been found on another computer that Shawn Adkins had access to.

Adkins is the only named suspect in the disappearance of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn.

The search warrant affidavit was released Friday through a Freedom of Information Act request to a court in Scurry County by KTXS-TV in Abilene and then shared with NewsWest9.

KTXS reports the affidavit was used to secure a search warrant that was executed Thursday to locate more possible child pornography on devices used by Adkins.

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- The mother of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn admits she's beginning to lose hope.

This comes after Billie Dunn was arrested Thursday and affidavits obtained exclusively by KTXS on Friday show that authorities found more pornography, including child porn, on devices used by Shawn Adkins, Billie's former live-in boyfriend.

After Billie Dunn was arrested and interrogated, she said she is now doubting Adkins' innocence.

The search warrant affidavit signed by 132nd District Judge Ernie Armstrong in connection with the search of the home of Shawn Adkins’ grandmother revealed nothing into the disappearance of a missing Colorado City teenager.

Adkins is the only named suspect in the Hailey Dunn disappearance and the affidavit only notes the teen once. During the course of the disappearance, law enforcement discovered “obscene, sexually deviant and/or pornographic images stores” on several electronic devices.

The items included Adkins’ cell phone, a USB memory stick he owned, a computer belonging to Christina Walker, Adkins’ mother, and a second computer located in Renee Norwood’s home in Dunn.

Thanks for the update, Ann. Seems they should be able to at least arrest Shawn for possession of child pornography. I wonder what the technicality of it is being "he doesn't own a computer" and he's using computers that belong to other people. It's there, but can they prove it's his. But if it's on his own personal phone, that would surely make a difference. And like he said, Billie Jean's recent arrest doesn't help her cause............

Just a few days after the mother of Hailey Dunn claimed to have cut off ties with her former boyfriend and the only named suspect in her daughter's disappearance, law enforcement says the pair met in Scurry County over the weekend.
Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs says his investigators have learned Billie Dunn and Shawn Adkins met up in Snyder on Saturday evening.

On Friday, Dunn revealed she filed a protective order that would keep Adkins off her property. Toombs confirmed the filing took place but says this hasn't kept the pair from meeting elsewhere.

There are over 109,000 images plus over 300 on a memory stick. That was from a few weeks ago.

There were electronic devices, computer(s), cameras, etc. that were seized a few days ago.

There is a forensic search of these devices. It takes a tremendous amount of time for the experts to search these devices and recover the images.

LE is building this case. As evidence is gathered, I would think they are working closely with the District Attorneys in several counties (the counties in which the evidence was seized). As you may know, there is more than one county involved.

Apparently, LE feel confident that Shawn Adkins will not run so there is not an immediate need to charge and arrest him on the porn charges at this time.

They are building their case. I think crossing all t's and dotting all of the i's. They will have an air tight case against Adkins.

It is such a huge volume that it takes time for them to trace where the porn was purchased or downloaded.

You can be assured, Adkins will be arrested. I think Billie Jean Dunn will be arrested also.

The child porn and bestiality images are a huge number per the media.

Maybe Adkins and Dunn will be honest with LE and tell where Hailey can be found.

Adkins and especially Dunn are playing a cat and mouse game with LE. Dunn is incredibly stupid if she thinks she will be able to manipulate and lie to LE.

Believe me, they are on to Adkins and Dunn and have been for a long time.

As I have stated before, the best of the best are involved in this case. The Texas Rangers, FBI, and other LE experts are assisting the Colorado City Police Department.

The wheels of justice are slowly turning!
